A Special Request

Writers: AL, Ames
Date Posted: 19th July 2013

Characters: Kaya, Dwidara
Description: Kaya visits Wirnan's sister with a special request
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 1, day 14 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Wirnan

Kaya knocked on the door, the sound almost hesitant. With all the
issues she had caused, she couldn't help but wonder at the type of
reception she would receive. Surely Wirnan had told his family all
about it. Shame settled in her stomach and she did her best to push
it away. She had a lot to make up for, she knew that. She just hoped
it wasn't too little too late.

Dwidara answered the door. When the door opened, she simply stared at
the woman standing there.

"Kaya," she greeted her sister-in-law. She hardly saw her. They hadn't
made much effort to be together. Wirnan never brought her to them when
he stopped in to visit. She knew things were not going all that well
between them and she resented the fact that this woman had trapped her
brother into a loveless marriage. "What can I do for you?"

"Hello." Kaya felt awkward all of a sudden, but she had come there
for a purpose. She looked down at the bag in her hands, then back up

at the woman. "I...was wondering if you could help me with
something."

Dwidara opened the door further. "Come in," she stated, stepping aside
to allow Kaya to enter. "We haven't seen you much."

"Thank you. I know. It's been...busy." Busy, crazy, up and down,
though Kaya had found a new resolve and this was a step forward in the
right direction. "I want to do something for Wirnan. I was hoping
you would be willing to help me."

**Interesting,** Dwidara mused. "Come in. Let me get you something to
drink and I'll see what I can do to help you." Dwidara motioned to the
table in their room. She turned and gathered up some drinks and things
that she had on the counter and brought the small tray over to the
table. "Help yourself," she indicated while she took a chair and
waited for Kaya to get settled. She was curious what the other woman
was going to say.

"I don't know if Wirnan ever told you that I...draw?" Kaya still was
hesitant to share her hobby. Too many turns under her father made her
nervous about doing so. "I was thinking...would it be all right to do
a drawing of you and your family, a portrait for Wirnan to have."

Dwidara looked at her for a moment. "He never mentioned it." Her eyes,
however, brightened at the idea. "I think he would love that._I_
would love such a thing of my own family."

Kaya made a mental note to do two copies, one for Wirnan, one for
Dwidara. "I didn't know if you and your husband would have time now,
so I brought my things. But if you want to wait til a time that's
more convenient, that's fine too."

"How long do you think it would take?" Dwidara asked, glancing around
their quarters. "I think I might want to..." she brushed her hands
over her dress, "change into something nicer before we did anything."
She blushed a bit. The dress she wore was rather plain and modest.

"Well, to get the layout and basic outline I'd need ten minutes
maybe?" Kaya tilted her head to the side as she pondered. "There are
some things I can do by memory. I know it can be difficult to get
children to sit still, but I can come back rather than have you all
sit for an extended period of time."

Dwidara thought that over. "That sounds like it would work. I can have
everyone gathered up for a short time like that. You are ready now? If
so, I will just go put on something a bit cleaner and get the children
ready as well."

"You don't need to worry about your clothes if you don't want to. I
can change those. I'm ready now, but if you're not, I can come back."
Kaya fingered the straps on er bag. "Your husband will be okay with

this?"

Dwidara frowned. "Well, I think so, but maybe I should talk to him
first. He's in the bedroom at the moment. If you want to wait I can go
talk to him now or you can come back tomorrow or that and I can let
you know what he says."

"I don't mind waiting. Just...don't let him know I'm waiting - I
don't want him to feel pressured." Kaya did want to get started
though and hoped he would be all right with it.

Dwidara nodded, stood and left. She was gone for a little while,
clearly having a conversation with her husband. When she returned, she
wore a different dress and a smile on her face.

"He has agreed. He'll be out in just a few moments. Wrice and Caenifer
are coming as well. They are cleaning up their toys and will be her
shortly." Dwidara informed Kaya. True to her word her husband and the
children filtered their way towards them as the moments passed.

Once they were all gathered, Dwidara asked, "Where would you like us?"

"Um...well, how about on the sofa?" She motioned. "Have you your
husband sit with the children in your laps?" Kaya would have to see
to make sure it looked all right once they settled.

They all settled into position like she requested. Dwidara was eager
to see the finished product even though it was a gift for her brother.
Still she knew she would be able to look at it and admire it
regardless.

"Thank you. I'll try to be quick." As they had settled, Kaya had
pulled out her charcoal and parchment. She indicated where they
should move, though only a couple of inches one way then another were
necessary. Then she began to sketch. Two, she'd do. One for Wirnan,
one for Dwidara and her family. And maybe...just maybe...it would
help on the path to healing.
