Wirnan

Wirnan

Kaya had gotten up early in comparison to Wirnan. He needed rest and
so she was going to let him rest. She didn't touch their room but
worked on the other parts of their quarters so she wouldn't disturb
him. She did check on him from time to time. When it got to the
point he was stirring, though not quite awake, she sent for some food
and tea. Then she moved back into the bedroom and sat down on the
edge of the bed to wait for him to truly wake up.

He had slept so much better after the healer had provided him with
treatment. It was later in the day than he normally would sleep based
on the slant of the sun he could see through the small window.

Opening his eyes, he looked around the room and saw her sitting there
on the edge of the bed.

"How are you feeling?" Kaya wasn't sure if she was the first thing he
wanted to see when he awoke. No, she was sure she_wasn't_ but she

wanted to see how he felt and get him what he needed.

"Ah," he replied, stretching a bit an coughing. "I don't feel all that
great." He felt a bit more rested than before, but he knew he would
tire easily. "I would like to get up for a while though."

"I've ordered food. Do you think you could eat?" Kaya stood up and
pulled back the covers, then moved over to pull some clothing out,
then laid it on the bed. "I'll let you get dressed."

"I'd like to try and eat," he replied. He_was_ hungry, at least a

little. Once she moved, he slowly got up. It wasn't easy at times, but
he got himself dressed in the comfortable clothes. Then, he shuffled
out to join her.

Kaya was just closing the door with her foot while she carried the
tray in her hands. She brought it to their small table and set it
down. "Soup. It will help you."

"Thank you," he replied, sitting down at the table and eagerly taking
the soup bowl. He was hungry. That was a good sign.

Kaya smiled as she saw some enthusiasm. It was encouraging. She took
a bowl for herself and began to eat. She realised his cup was empty,
so after she took her first bite, she poured him some water and set
his cup closer to him. "You should drink some water. You don't want
to get dehydrated."

He nodded, took the cup and drank. He did feel better after eating and
drinking, but he was still plagued by coughs every so often. "How long
has it been since I got home?" His ability to track how much time had
passed was off with his illness and sleeping so much.

"Two days ago." Not that long. He'd been a lot worse when Chupsin
came to see him. Kaya was glad that he had improved. "You slept most
of yesterday."

"Two days?" He asked, looking at her. "That makes today the 13th?"
Thoughts were bouncing around in his head as he calculated and thought
about what he had missed. "Oh, we were supposed to meet with Lady
Benani." Wirnan felt terrible. He had told her when he would return,
and that he would stop in as soon as possible to finish up the plans
for the room transfer. He had planned to tell Kaya about the move when
they went to check out the new rooms the Lady Holder had prepared for
them.

"We were?" That caught Kaya by surprise. Why both of them? "About
what?" When she saw his cup had been emptied, she poured more water
into it. Why did they both need to see the Lady Holder?

"I was going to surprise you, but everything's all a mess now. Lady
Benani caught me right as I was getting ready to leave and offered to
prepare the old Steward's larger quarters for us to," he looked up at
her and paused a moment, "grow into and be more comfortable. How could
I tell her no to such a fine offer? Anyway, she wanted to see us to
finalize the plans so we could move in."

"Oh." Kaya hadn't expected that. She paused, spoon halfway to her
mouth, then nodded slowly. "Would you like me to go see her? I can
take care of that if you wish."

"That would be a good idea, since I don't think I'm in any condition
to meet with her myself," he replied and started coughing once again.
"I'm growing sleeping again already. I hate feeling this way."

"I know. Finish your soup first. Then get back into bed. I'll send
a message to Lady Benani." He wasn't quite half done and Kaya gently
pushed his bowl just a little closer to him.

He sighed, looking at the bowl of soup. He lifted his spoon and took a
few more bites. His eyes drifted over to her. It was nice that she was
being so helpful and kind. It was better than the way things had felt
between them. Did he love her? No. Not like he'd hoped he would. Did
he care about her? Yes. She was a part of his life. There was so much
left unsaid between them. So many feelings he couldn't sort through.
It was all a jumbled mess in his mind and his illness was not helping
matters.

He looked down at the soup, his eyes growing heavy. He tried to hold
onto the thoughts he was having. Something was bothering him.
Something that his brain was trying to remember, but he couldn't
recall what it was right now. Taking a few more bites, he pushed the
bowl away.

"I can't eat anymore now." He started coughing again as soon as he
started talking. Holding a hand against his chest, as the coughs hurt,
he waited for them to subside. "I think I should lie down again." He
felt a bit light headed.

"Okay. I'll warm it up if you wake up and feel like you can eat."
Kaya stood and put her arm around Wirnan to help him up. "Rest will
help you heal."

He accepted her help, glad to have it. It wasn't long before he was
settled back in his bed, drifting off to sleep once more.
