Almonteo

Almonteo

The big harper strode in to the hallmaster's office. He looked furious.
"This place is impossible!" "Eilomar," Almonteo smiled a hollow smile at the man whose face was turning red. "How can I help you?"

"Take us away from here! This place is turning every one crazy!" the singer complained. His trained bass-voice easily carried to the other side of the weyr. The Hallmaster tried not to roll his eyes. He had been waiting for this to happen for weeks. "Master Eilomar, please, have a seat and tell me what the problem is."

"The problem are the apprentices," the large harper sat down heavily.
"and my wife," he continued with more subdued voice. "Your wife?" Almonteo asked, his eyebrows shooting skyward in surprise. "What is wrong with your wife?"

"She's gone crazy too, she acts...oddly. These, these... dragonriders take too much liberties with her and she just encourages them! She smiles at them, laughs at their rude jokes and flirts with them!" The harper's outrage was obvious. Worst part was that she hadn't looked him like she was now looking those handsome riders for turns.

"I see." When had his Hallmaster's turned into a mindhealer's? "Well, have you been paying special attention to your wife at all?"

"What attention?" the singer gave him a puzzled look. "Of course, a Hallmaster is not one to lecture their residents on marriage," Almonteo said carefully, "but as one married man to another, I can tell you that if you do not pay attention to your wife, she will look for attention elsewhere."

"Enough of my wife," the master singer glared. "How about apprentices?
Half of my choir's gotten dragon-crazy and whisper about impressing at the next clutching and the other half had run a way to the beach, to join those almost naked ladies that lounge there!" "Well, most of the dragon-crazy boys will never Impress. There aren't even enough eggs for all of them to Impress. It will not take them long to figure it out. As far as the beaches," the Hallmaster shrugged. "Well, we might just have to wait until they become desensitized to it. It will come. And if it is interfering with their performance, send them to me. I will deal with them."

"I will, you can be certain I will," Eilomar promised with ominous voice. "Now I mean _truly interfering_. Not just daydreaming in classes, but if they are skipping class all together."

"All right," Eilomar agreed grudgingly. His idea was to sent them to the hallmaster as soon as their attention wandered from the lesson. "Things has been really chaotic since we arrived here," he complained. "I know Master Eilomar, but they will settle down soon. It's just a change is all, and change takes time to adjust to. The newness of the Weyr will soon wear off. Once the Hatching is over and done with, their Egg dreams will be over and they can focus on their studies wholeheartedly, I'm sure."

"I hope so," the singer sighed. Then he gave the hallmaster a stern look. "There still one thing I must take up."
**Only one?** "Anything, Master Eilomar. My day is totally free."

"The hallsecond. Couldn't you find a more suitable master to replace Ryndel than _her_?" ** like me,** could be heard from his voice even if he didn't say it.

Almonteo just looked at him and replied, "No."

"But she's a woman and a printer," Eilomar muttered but the curt replied had taken the wind out of him. "Erh, I think that was all. Good day to you Master Almonteo." The Hallmaster gave him a polite, but _only_ polite, smile. "Have a good day, Eilomar. Come and see me anytime."
