Description: The Weyrwoman greets their new guest.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 1 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Solieira, Benani, Felyna, Zathris
She'd just arrived with Z'lred the previous night and been settled
into the quarters given to her and her chaperone Planar. She'd been
told that the Weyrwoman knew of her arrival and was expecting to meet
her.
With Planar at her side, for the woman was diligent in not leaving
Faldrimme alone, she made her way to the Weyrwoman's office.
Knocking, she waited for entrance.
"Please enter." Solieira's staff had already provided provisions and
Rhosyn was set up in the sitting area of her office, instead of her desk.
Orlaith's clutch had been laid but it was a while before the eggs would be
hard enough to Hatch so she was focusing on her day-to-day duties.
Faldrimme entered. Planar followed, but stood near the door, out of the way.
"Good day, Weyrwoman," she greeted the woman in the chair. "I'm Faldrimme."
Rhosyn stood up and walked forward just a bit. "Welcome to River
Bluff, Faldrimme. I trust your stay has been well so far?" She
gestured toward the empty seat and the food and refreshments if the
girl wanted some. "And please, call me Rhosyn."
"Thank you, Rhosyn," Faldrimme replied, taking the seat after she
filled herself a glass of water. "Everything has been fine so far, but
I did just arrive yesterday. Our quarters," she gestured to Planar and
herself, "are just fine. Thank you for accommodating us." The girl had
been trained to hobnob with the important folk, so talking with Rhosyn
felt no different than having a conversation with her Aunt Benani or
Lady Felyna.
"It's not often without a Hatching that we receive Holderfolk." A curious
note came into her voice. "Was there a reason for your visit since the eggs
won't be ready for a few sevendays?"
**So clearly she doesn't know all the details,** Faldrimme thought.
"Well, Lord Zathris, my uncle, found out I wanted to craft. He
suggested I visit the Weyr and see if crafting here was to my liking.
My father agreed to let me come, but only with Planar, my chaperone,"
she wasn't sure what else Rhosyn would want to know. She stopped and
waited to see if the Weyrwoman had questions about what she'd just shared.
**Now that's news. Quite strange for Zathris as a Holder** Rhosyn didn't
know him, but she knew that was a departure. Especially when Faldrimme was
a good healthy, Blooded girl that could marry and have children. She
wasn't a castoff
they needed to find a place for. Her brows rose just a bit.
"Well...what sort of craft
were you interested in?"
"Beastcrafting," Faldrimme replied with ease. "I've loved animals all
my life and have wished to become an animal trainer, but that is not
allowed at the Holds." **I wish it was,** she thought silently.
"Hmm...I was good with runners when I was young. Now I'm a dragonhealer
instead." **Beastcrafting isn't usually a woman's field. She'll have a
hard road.** "Well, how long do you plan to spend with us?"
"A month to give it a try. Then my father wants me to sit down and
talk to him and Lord Zathris about what I plan to do next. Stay here,
return home," she shrugged a bit at that. She really didn't know what
would happen during her time at the Weyr, but it was her chance to try
and pursue her dreams. "You mentioned dragonhealing. I'm curious about
how that is similar to beastcrafting?" That had not been something she
had considered as a Holder girl. She wondered if she could spend some
time learning more about that particular craft while she was here.
"Well you're tending to an animal. Dragons get hurt and have to be put
back together again. The difference is they can tell you what hurts. To
advance in it, though, you have to Impress." Rhosyn wanted to be straight
with the girl from the start.
"Oh," her face fell a bit, "I'd have to Impress a dragon. That makes
sense." **So that's pretty much out for me, but still might be
interesting to watch and learn while I'm here,** she mused.
"Have you ever been around dragons, Faldrimme?" Rhosyn asked the question
seriously since that was a major part of Weyrlife with all its
implications and even if the girl was just visiting, she needed to
know proper dragon etiquette.
"We've had dragon and dragonrider visitors to the Hold, but I was not
normally the one that interacted or greeted with most of them. I _do_
know that they are to be treated with the same respect as the riders
and those of importance in the Holds." She waited to see if the
Weyrwoman would think her knowledge of dragons was lacking, for it was
in so many ways.
"That's part of it, but there are some things you should know. Don't approach
a dragon without permission from them. The same goes with touching. They
like to be scratched usually and rubbed, but some will only allow people they
know to come near. Every dragon is different. They won't hurt you though."
Something else occurred to the Weyrwoman. "Faldrimme, have you been on a
ground crew?"
"Yes," she replied to the last. "I don't normally have ground duties
far from the Hold, but I have been part of the main Hold crew." It was
a job that all of them did together, no one greater or less than the
other, in order to protect their home.
"Threadfall in a Weyr is slightly different. During Fall, we ask that everyone
assist-either with the children, the healers, or anything else that needs doing.
After, we do have our own ground crews. Whenever you decide what you'd like
to do, you can tell the Headwoman. You might...also see some very scary things."
Of course riders landed in the Bowl when they were injured and so did dragons.
"I understand," she replied. **I think.** She wasn't sure _exactly_
what sort of scary things she might see, but she wasn't going to
question that further right now. "I assure you I will do my part
during Threadfall and on other days as well."
"Very well, do you have any questions for me?" Rhosyn asked as she grabbed a
cracker and cheese for herself.
"I don't think so," Faldrimme replied. She knew she would have many
more questions later, right now she just needed to try and figure out
where to begin.
