What Can I Do For You?

Description: Wirnan visits Hidden Meadows hold to assist their steward

Wirnan

Wirnan had arrived at Hidden Meadows the previous day, but hadn't had
much chance to figure out exactly what they needed until this morning.
They had given him his own quarters for the night.

Now that he was rested, he went in search of the hold's steward to see
why they had needed his help.

"Wirnan," said Mettil as he rose from his desk. "Good to see you. I
trust your journey was easy?"

"Aye, not bad at all. Thank you for arranging the quarters for me.
They are very nice," Wirnan entered the office and extended his hand
to the other steward.

"So, what can I do for you? The missive said you were in need of some
help with records and things?" He was curious what was going on.

"Oh," the older man threw up his hands. "There was a fire in one of
the record rooms and we've lost a whole section of records" That was a
bit of a convoluted story in itself but they'd need the Hold's help to
get it straightened out. "I think I know what all was there but we'll
need to repair and then get copies of the records from you."

"Oh," Wirnan replied. The missive hadn't indicated a bad fire of any
sort. "So, did the fire damage the Hold?" He asked. He knew he would
need to report this to Zathris and send someone else out to check the
structure.

"I'm sure we can repair the files without too much difficulty. It will
take some time and some inventory. Do you have a list of what you're
missing?" Wirnan thought that if the other man had already compiled a
list of known and unknown files, things would work smoother and
faster.

"Only minor damage to the stone and shelving. Nothing that we can't
fix but the records are irreplaceable." Mettil turned and walked
toward the door. "Come let me show you."

Wirnan followed after the Steward to the record room. When the room
was opened he could smell the scent that indicated there had been a
fire. His eyes took in the shelves that clearly had burn marks.

"I see," he said now that he'd seen the damage. "I'm sure if I knew
what records you still had, I could return to Amber Hills and have
some of the understewards and harpers recopy what we have. Of course,
there will be some records that only your hold had, so we may not be
able to help you with those ones as much."

"Yes," Mettil agreed. "I've got some people working on the list for
you. Luckily we updated the record key less than a Turn ago." Some of
those records in the room could be salvaged and recopied during their
regular record repairs but creating something out of nothing was
clearly impossible.

"I sincerely appreciate any help you can give us Wirnan."

"It's not a problem Mettil," Wirnan replied, reaching a hand to put it
on the other Steward's shoulder. "We should be able to have this
problem fixed easily enough." He knew they had their work ahead of
them, but it shouldn't take as long as he had anticipated. **Perhaps
I'll visit a few of the other outlying holds while I'm here. I already
told everyone I'd be gone a full sevenday.** He would see what the
morning brought and decide if he needed to stay further here or could
move on.
