Benani

He'd had a lot of work to accomplish and had been working hard all
morning. With the festivities for Turn's End finally over, it was time
to get back to work. Wirnan had received the missive from Hidden Meadows
that they were in need of help in getting their finances and papers in
order as the previous steward had died suddenly.

He'd planned to set off for the outlying hold today, but had to delay
his departure until the morning while he sorted out his own staff
after Turnover.

Finally, taking a break, he'd left his offices and headed to the
dining hall for lunch. It was rather crowded. Filling a tray with
food, he glanced for an open spot.

"Good afternoon, Lady Benani," Wirnan greeted her. "Mind if I join you?"

"Good afternoon Wirnan," she looked up with a smile. "Of course." It
wasn't often the steward and she spent any time together.

He took the seat with a friendly smile. "How are you this fine day, Benani?"

"I'm very well thank you." She smiled at the small talk. "How are
you," she really was a little concerned for his difficulties with Kaya
were well known through the hold. There was only so much one could
hide in a place like this. She didn't know details of course, but a
general feeling. He never looked at Kaya the way Zathris looked at
her. Nor did Kaya look at him that way.

"Alright," he replied. It was his typical answer when people asked. He
divulged too much about what was happening between him and Kaya, even
though at times he wanted to. "The Turnover celebrations went well,"
he continued the small talk.

"They did," she smiled with pride. "And so did Arippa's wedding." She
was just about finished with her meal and then something occurred to
her. "Oh Wirnan. I thought I'd have the old stewards family quarters
refurbished so you and Kaya can move in there. You've kept her bottled
up in your bachelors quarters long enough." She chuckled.

He'd forgotten about the other option for quarters that were available
to him. When he'd first arrived, he'd declined them as they were so
large for one man and taken a smaller set of rooms.

"I haven't been back there in some time. Didn't Jarall's family move
in to use those quarters for awhile?" He knew the other man had left
the Hall some time ago, and Wirnan hadn't even considered that the
rooms were open.

"You don't need them for any family?" He inquired. He and Kaya had
adjusted to their life in his quarters, and ever the gentleman, he
wouldn't dream of taking the more spacious rooms if another family
needed them, especially a family of the Blood.

"Yes," she nodded and swallowed her final bite, "Jarall moved a couple
of months back. Oh, and family doesn't need it. I was in there the
other day inspecting and the furniture is in good condition. I'll have
the sofa recovered though and some minor repairs made. It's a rather
nice suite actually. A nice large common room with two large bedrooms
and a smaller room you could use for an office or nursery. It even
has a private bathing room."

She smiled and patted his arm. "I just thought it was time for you to
move to better quarters."

**A nursery, hardly likely, but she must imagine we'll start a family
soon,** he mused. Then he thought on what she said. Two bedrooms? That
would be good and he could stop sleeping on the couch and on the cot
he had.

"Well, Benani, that sounds downright fabulous. More space will be good
for us over the Turns," he left that comment there to dangle, not
wanting to reveal his _real_ thoughts for why they needed extra space.

"I'm due to leave in the morning for Ging Fidds and Hidden Meadows,
perhaps when I return
in a sevenday we can work on the move if all is ready?" The thought of
having his own bed to sleep in while Kaya slept in her own was good
news to him for sure. **I can make it out to be a good thing to Kaya
as she will have more space for her own things as well,** he thought
silently.

"Certainly," she smiled. "I'll have Zelanka start her staff on the
renovation right away." She smiled and pushed her dish away. "Well,"
she said as she stood. "Good day Wirnan, have a safe trip. Your new
quarters will be awaiting when you return."
