The first thing G'wen had done was escape to his own weyr. The second had been to slide down the door and cry, hard. E'naer didn't want him, he wanted a strong man like Sh'lua. Never had he felt so worthless since he had Impressed. It took a long time for the bitter tears to stop.

In the days that followed he did his best to stay away. Begging off ill to J'darin, he kept to his weyr high in the cliff face of Dragonsfall, advoiding everyone, even his best friends Cardella and Teseada. S'vin came by three times a day to encourage him to eat but he held no interest. Not even the clean bill of health that had come the day before the egg laying could cheer him up. No, curling up under his bed furs seemed the only thing to do.

The longer G'wen was staying out of work, the more worried and remorseful E'naer became. To him it had been totally random, thoughtless remark, not meant to be taken seriously. S'vin kept him informed and finally came the point when E'naer had to do something. He just couldn't let the situation continued. It would just fester and fester. Feral's eggs were still to soft to move, so he got some flowers and sweets instead. Standing behind his door, he felt suddenly nervous. He swallowed and knocked. It was easier to just move on but he had to _try_. Or he would be bed-hopper for rest of his life and grow old all alone.

On the other side of the door, G'wen shut his eyes and hoped the person would go away. Neath was asleep, so he couldn't rely on her to tell him who it was. Groaning inwardly after the knocking continued, he slid out of bed and walked to the door. Not caring that he looked terrible, he opened the door.

"G'wen. I've been terrible, insensitive jerk, can you ever forgive me?" E'naer rushed out the words before he would slam the door shut against his face.

G'wen groaned inwardly. "Do you think you deserve to be forgiven?" As much as he wanted E'naer back, he wasn't going to settle for a kiss and a cuddle. E'naer had to want him, really want him.

"It's up to you to decide. My only defense is that I wasn't serious about it. I know it's not a good one. I hurt you," E'naer replied.

"That's the problem, you never seem to be serious. I'm starting to think I'm a just a place for you to stick your dick into." G'wen ran his fingers through his tangled hair in a gesture of frustration. Days apart and_this_was the best that E'naer could come up with?

"I am serious about you, G'wen. I wouldn't standing here if I weren't," E'naer said silently.

"Then_why_could you say something so hurtful?" He couldn't help the fresh tears that ran down his face.

"I don't know. I just let my mouth run off," E'naer said. "I'm such a dolt some times," he reached out to touch him. "When I think a life without you, I feel lonely and empty."

"And Sh'lua? What about him?" As much as he wanted to jerk away from E'naer's touch, G'wen just couldn't. He was starved for just such a feeling from the man.

"Him? He's a friend and occasional bedpartner. I never considered him for anything permanent. I happen to know you've enjoyed his company too," E'near replied.

"In a_Flight_!" At that, G'wen tore his arm out of E'naer's reach and stormed back into his weyr, leaving the door open in case E'naer really wanted to come in. He had noticed but didn't touch the flowers or the sweets still in the man's hand.

"Exactly!" E'naer said, rubbing his head. Why did he always pick up the absolutely wrong things to say? "I wish _we_ could share a Flight." He did follow G'wen since he didn't tell him to leave.

G'wen turned on him. "Well WE CAN'T!! You bloody well knew this when you took me on, don't you EVEN give me this shite!" He was furious now and well aware that everyone up and down the hallway could hear him, but he didn't care. "And if you want to stay in that doorway like a little boy who's done wrong, that's your own bloody choice."

"Actually, there might be a way. I've put aside an egg from Feral's clutch, the most likely one to hatch a brown or bronze. If we get lucky and it's bronze or brown _and_ Mates with Feral... That is, if you want a firelizard at all," E'naer said.

"You're missing the point, E'naer. You don't love me. If you did you wouldn't say the things you say." G'wen sunk into a chair, feeling depleted. He put his head in his hands.

E'naer let out a frustrated sigh. "But I do love you! I wouldn't be here, trying to win you back if I didn't. I never been good at this but now I'm trying! But if you're not interested, just say so, so I'll know not to waste your time!" he nearly shouted, ready to toss the flowers to the ground and storm off.

At the raising of his voice, G'wen curled into himself. "Well, how am I supposed to know? You've never told me you love me."

"Well, I'm telling it now. Can we agree that I suck at these things and try to move on? I've missed you," E'naer appealed to G'wen.

"What about weyrmating?" G'wen tossed back at him.

"Well, we could give it a try too," E'naer replied, moving closer. "I can't promise to be an easy person to live with." He hold out his hand to him.

"You mean it?" The smaller man tried to straighten his hair out before taking the offered hand, holding onto E'naer's fingers lightly.

"Yes, first time in my life, I'm serious about it," E'naer said with a serious tone. He curled his fingers around his and pulled G'wen closer to embrace him.

G'wen collapsed into his arms, smiling up at the much taller man. "I'm serious too. I love you."

"Start packing. Even Feral misses you..or not. She just wants an adoring audience," E'naer murmured.

As if he'd dandle. Even Neath had already flown down to cuddle up with Ellispeth.
