G'nir

G'nir

G'nir straightened his sleeves and checked his hair before knocking
Hygalia's door.

"My lady, are you ready? The party is waiting for us."

"Come in, G'nir," she called back, slipping an earring into her pierced
ear. "There's a bottle on the table. I thought we could have a quick
drink before we head down. Steel our nerves and all."

"Wonderful idea," G'nir replied and entering her weyr, walked over to
thetable. He filled the glasses.

"There," she said, walking into the room with a swish of her skirts. Of
course a new Turn called for a new dress. Hygalia was particularly
pleasedwith how this one had turned out. She had found a fabric with gold
threadwoven into it, and it gave just the slightest shimmer as the light
floatedover it. "Will that do, do you think? Will I do your Weyr proud?"

"You will. You're lovely beyond words," G'nir said. His admiration was
genuine.

"Thank you, G'nir," the goldrider said with a pleased smile. "You are
looking quite handsome yourself. Is that suit new?"

"Of course, can't represent the Weyr in Turn Over feast on an old suit,"
G'nir replied with a grin.

"Well, it's very fashionable. Who did it for you?" Hygalia was more
than pleased with her own new dress, but was thinking that someday she
might want to give G'nir a new shirt or tunic. It would be good to know
who had his size.

"I actually go to weaver hall," G'nir admitted. "There's journeyman there who's style I like and who knows what I like. Even visited him while I was living in the North. One of many advantages of being dragonrider."

"Well, aren't you dressed fancy," the Weyrwoman said, raising her glass to him once more. "I visited the Weaver Hall once when I was younger. Before I Impressed. I was fascinated by all the looms."

"They are sight to behold," G'nir replied and lifted his glass too. "But our weaver's aren't doing badly either," he let his admiring gaze roam her figure.

"The cloth definitely didn't come from here," Hygalia said, leaning forward conspiratorially. "I have a weaver, too. Back in Copper Beach Hold. He pointed me in the right direction of where I could find such a lovely fabric. But I did have a local weaver make the dress." She did want to at least represent the Weyr's crafters as much as she could, but sometimes they just didn't have what she was looking for.

"We keep that secret and just praise the crafters we have here," G'nir replied with eqully conspiratorially.

"Indeed," she agreed. Hygalia shoot her head, letting the earrings catch the light. "These are local at least." She pushed a small box that had been sitting on the corner of the table closer to him. "And this as well."

"Thank you, here's my gift to you," G'nir received the box and took out his present from his belt pouch.

"Well, now we each have a box," she said, knowing just from the shape that it must contain some kind of jewelry inside. "How shall we do this? In turns or together?"

"Together. One, two, three," G'nir started to unwrap his.

"Ah. It's beautiful," Hygalia said with a satisfied sigh. The small starburst patterned broach would go perfectly with several of her outfits. "And it's blue zircon as well. My favorite!" It would match the earrings her aunt had left her!

"You're so welcome. Ah! This is wonderful. Thank you, I'll treasure it always," G'nir said and examined the pocket clock, reading the engraving. He was guinedly touched and honoured. He counted himself truly lucky to have a Weyrwoman like Hygalia. He attached the chain to his vest.

"Well, here's to us, and another successful Turn," she said, clinking her glass lightly against his once more.

"Another successful Turn," G'nir echoed.
