The skies had opened up and the rain poured down, its scent mixing
with that of hay, runners, and leather. Zathris stared up at the sky
from the door of the hold, his brow furrowed. "Hm." He slipped an
arm around the shoulders of his wife. "Well. Looks like our plans
are going to have to change."

She pursed her lips, and her shoulders sagged. She had been so looking
forward to spending some alone time with her husband in the beauty of
nature around Amber Hills. Their Hold was so beautiful and in her
younger days, she'd ridden around it endlessly. Especially at this
time of Turn. "Yes," she said softly and turned to put her arms around
his waist. "I suppose so."

Zathris frowned at the clouds that covered the sky. He wished he had
some ability to send them all away, but they wouldn't listen to anyone
- not even a Lord Holder. Then his face lit up with a smile. "Come
on." He folded the blanket up as small as he could and stuffed it
beneath his jacket. Then he tugged his wife out into the water that
fell from the sky and began to lead her away from the Hold proper and
toward the stables.

She recognized that look on his face and she couldn't help but smile.
But she gave a small squeal when he dragged her into the downpour.
"Zathris," she exclaimed in mock outrage.

"Woman, don't make me carry you." His grin only grew wider as he
continued to lead his wife through the rain and toward a building that
sat behind the stables. It was used for overflow, but their stables
weren't at full capacity, so the building was empty for the time
being. He ducked through the doors and pulled her inside.

She ran with him and tried not to step in any puddles but she managed
to get one foot soaked. But by the time they got into the building
their hair was wet and bedraggled. She was panting as they got inside
and shook her hands before pulling damp tendrils out of her face.

"What a way to treat a new mother," she giggled.

"Hush, woman." Zathris growled softly, but there was no mal-intent in
the sound. He grinned at her and beckoned her toward the back, to
where a ladder led upward and to a loft. "Ladies first."

Again she giggled, but she went up on tiptoe to kiss him and then
dashed to the bottom of the ladder and hitched up her skirts to climb.

Zathris joined her and took great pleasure in looking up as he climbed
after her. Once up in the loft, the smell of fresh hay greeted them
and he moved further in and away from the opening to settle the picnic
basket down. "Hungry?"

"In more ways than one," she grinned as she followed him away from the edge.

"We've got cheese, meat rolls, buns, fingerroots, greens. What do you
want first?" Zathris spread out the blanket he'd carried. It had
gotten a little wet, but wasn't too bad.

"Greens and fingerroots please," she replied and sank to her knees on
the blanket. The air was heavy with the pleasant smell of rain even
though it had ruined her plans, she let that go and just enjoyed their
little picnic.

"Are you sure?" Zathris shook his head and tossed both of those items
back in the basket. "That's not what I think I should eat first."

Her eyes darted from the food to his face. Was that a playful sparkle
in his eyes? "Zathris," she said with her voice rising on the last
syllable making it into a rather soft inquiry.

The only answer Benani received was a soft growl before her husband
practically pounced on her.
