K'sedel

K'sedel

U'das sat down across K'sedel's desk. "So, I believe you got the Healer's
report?" he asked.

"I did," confirmed the Weyrleader. "It's a hard thing to face, but safety is
a priority. I am sorry, you know. It won't be easy to step back."

"Yeah," U'das grunted. "But I rather not risk my wing. I don't want to led
them to their death's because I didn't _see_ something. So there isn't any
other option."

"Have you told them yet?"

"I've called in a wingmeeting for tomorrow, where I plan to tell them about
it," U'das
replied and rubbed his face.

"Shard's, I'm going blind. I never thought it would end this way."

"None of us thought thread would ever come back, that was not even a
possibility until it happened." K'sedel understood, there was time, a
simpler time perhaps where they had thought of simple lives, with a dragon
that would take them where they needed to go, and large families, grand
children, and maybe even great grandchildren surrounding them.

"Yes, and ever since it came back, I expected to go out in a Fall, or be
forced to ground because of Zack's old wing injury, not like this," U'das
answered and sighed.

K'sedel nodded his understanding. "At least you'll srtill be here to advise
us, and your successor. Do you have any thoughts on who that should be?"

"I was thinking J'ren, if he's willing and you don't think him too young,"
U'das said. "He's done good job as my Second."

"And if he's not ready?" K'sedel was already thinking of what would happen
if they had to transfer in another bronzerider at short notice. "Should we
perhaps let him take the wing temporarily?"

"Perhaps, it would give us time to see how he deals with the
responsibility. I don't have to step down _today_. I was thinking I would
wrap up the Turn's end eveluations before that. I let J'ren lead the Falls,
I can still do Drills, with Zack's help."

"That's a good idea, and if it turns out he's not ready, then we have time
to get a replacement who is."

U'das nodded an agreement. "So, at the beginning of month 1 then?"

"Yes." K'sedel might not like it, but sometimes other things made the
decisions for them. "I hope you'll stay here at River Bluff."

"I have no plans of leaving. This place has become my home. Although I have
family in Far Island Weyr, I also have too many memories from there," U'das
replied. He was sure K'sedel understood what he meant. In there age, you
aquired lot of memories. Some were bittersweet and painful.

"So, what are you going to do with me then? You have in your hands an aging
bronzerider with perfectly fit dragon. Zack's not going to stop chasing
greens and golds just because I can't see them. Even his wing hasn't
bothered him, thank's to Y'gel's treatment."

"There are two options, either you two could go to Shoals wing, or the
Weyrling wing." K'sedel said, almost thining aloud. "It is up to you.
though."

"Great, I would get bored crazy in Shoals, doing nothing, " U'das grunted.

"And with the weylings?"

"I could stilll teach, I suppose. At least the class lesson. I doupt I will
be able to supervise first flights or /betweening/. But theory, yes, I can
teach that." U'das was pretty much think aloud.

"Zackariath won't let them put one over on you."

"Yeah," U'das grunted and rubbed his face. At least he had some experience
of working with Weyrlings. Before he came to River Bluff Weyr, he had been a
Weyrlingmaster in North.

"You have friends here who'll help you, you know that, right?"

"I know," U'das replied. "Although right now I just want to get blastered."

"Now _that_ I can help with," K'sedel reached into a draw and pulled out a
dusty bottle. "Vintner Hall's best redfruit liquer."

"Hah, knew I could count on you with that," U'das grinned.

"Just don't tell Ciara," K'sedel said returning the grin.

"I won't whisper a word," U'das promised solemly and placed his hand over
heart.
