Description: Orlaith rises at the end of the turn.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 25 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Lenala
Rolling around in the sheets, Rhosyn continued to cling to
the dream she was having. It was a good one and she felt arms around
her, grabbing at her and turned over to see a face. Reaching out to
pull the head down to her, she remained asleep.
The Weyrwoman was having quite an amorous dream and part of it ?was
due to the fact that her queen was feeling rather amorous herself.
Orlaith was basking in the sun, her pale hide glowing rather brightly
under its rays. The dragon had been showing signs for sometime now and
the rest of the Weyr had been feeling the tension that usually came
before a senior flight. What would happen? Would it be a good flight?
Stretching her legs and opening her eyes, Orlaith was finally ready.
Moving her wings and straightening them, she saw red. Opening
her mouth to bugle her intentions to the entire Weyr, she woke her
rider who was caught unawares for a moment, still halfway in the dream,
but knowing something was happening. Rhosyn ran a hand through her
long, tousled hair, looking around her weyr. She was going somewhere-to
the beasts-she was hungry.
Flying off the bed, the Weyrwoman clad in just her underpants, took
off running down the stairs and after her dragon who was making better
time on all fours. Orlaith was ravenous! }:They will be mine! They
will fill my empty belly!:{
**No you don?t! You can suck them dry, but you will not eat.** It was
so hard pushing against that immense need to rend, tear, and break
apart-but she had done it so many times before, she knew she would
win. It was necessary for the Weyr. It was part of her duty to her
dragon. **Don?t EAT IT!!** she screamed into Orlaith?s mind, clamping
down solidly on her queen.
Roaring with her anger and moving her head from side to side, Orlaith
tried to release herself, to be free, but she couldn?t. Her rider was
still there, telling her no. Finally, the dragon stopped fighting and
moved forward to break the neck of the nearest beast-to suck its
lifeblood until it was gone.
Zackariath landed and let his rider down. Then he took his place at
the edge of the feeding grounds. The old bronze almost shuddered with
anticipation of the Queen's flight. U'das run his hands over his bald
head and eyed Rhosyn. She was good looking woman, no doubt in that. He
still wasn't quite as sure as his dragon that he wanted to win this
flight. He was quite happy as a Wingleader.
Y'gel paused in the class he was teaching. "Class dismissed," he said
and headed for the feeding grounds. Aughashyth was already there and
watching Orlaith with whirling eyes.
The Weyrleader arrived, after leaving his daughter with her mother.
Nikornath was already blooding his own kill, even as Orlaith appeared to be
draining hers. ?}:You'll be mine,:{ he told her.
Confident after catching his first gold, Menanth was loud and
insistent that he was joining the chase. D'ren hurried down to
the bowl, shaking his head. He didn't really believe Menanth had a
chance to catch the Senior, but he wouldn't hold the bronze back.
Nikornath roared at the young bronze. It was presumptuous of him to
assume he even stood a chance with the senior gold. How could he even think
he stood a chance against him?
K'sedel knew that Nikornath was getting caught up in the flight and that
afterwards it would be forgotten, but right now, he couldn't resist looking
to see if D'ren and his bronze had seen and heard.
}:Prove you are worthy of me:{ Orlaith screamed back as she gnashed
her teeth around the bones, and sent the carcass flying toward a male
who she thought was too close. Another fell prey to her and then
another until finally the huge queen looked up into the early light of
the day and decided it was her time. Spreading her wings and giving
a hiss to those who watched, she used her great muscles to launch,
pushing up into the air and going as far from the Weyr as she could get.
Somewhere, Rhosyn almost caught onto the thought in her mind that she
hoped Lenala had gotten Vilarth away. That wasn't her worry now.
Feeling her gold's power course through her body, she felt herself
rising, surging with the need to mate. She held sway over all of
them and they would do as she chose. This was her Weyr-her right.
Hazel eyes watched through whirling red-purple ones as the ocean and
trees blurred beneath her. She could feel them back there, somewhere,
and pushed farther away-her great wings carrying her.
The rising sun bathed both Orlaith and Rhosyn, turning the dragon's
pale hide into a reflective surface that was hard to look at-she was
shining so brightly. The Weyrwoman's hair caught the light and shone
with a tint of fire as she growled low in her throat, a menace to her
suitors at the moment.
Aughashyth strained closer to Orlaith. Even though his chances
were small because of his early injury but that didn't stop him from
giving in to the irresistible pull of the luminous gold.
Zack launched himself up, to fly after the glowing queen.
U'das felt their connection snap into being, the two becoming one.
Menanth shot after the gold, pushing himself to greater speed. Young
and strong and sure of himself, he bugled a challenge to the rival males.
Nikornath knew to pace himself, he stayed with the leading pack, yet was
oh-so-slightly trying to break away. Orlaith was a tempting, teasing prize
ahead of him, and he knew what he would be missing. But no, it wouldn't come
to that, he would make her his again.
Like any gold worth her salt, let alone a senior queen of a thriving
Weyr in a Pass, Orlaith would lead a long chase. The gold had
staying power that would be tested, pushed now to keep her healthy and
provide her good eggs. Ichor pumped through her veins, to her muscles
which moved to power her mighty wings. Those wings ate up the air,
ascending as they carried her farther and farther away. She was not wily like
a green. She was also not concerned with aerobatics and those sorts of
things. No, Orlaith wanted to know who could stay with her. She would
test their limits, watching them, demanding as she soared above the
trees and beaches that littered the coastline. }:You are all mine, but
I can only choose one for my Weyr. Why do you come to me?:{
}:You know why,:{ Nikornath told her. }:Remember the strong healthy
weyrlings last time.:{
Aug tried valiantly, as he always did, but he began to fall farther
and farther behind and finally wheeled away to return to the Weyr.
Y'gel turned away almost simultaneously and one of the waiting
moths took his hand to lead him to a private place.
}:I am young and strong. I will give you many eggs for our Weyr,:{
Menanth told the shining Queen. His actions proved his words as he
kept up with the remaining bronzes.
}: And I have the experience! :{ It was Zackariath's turn to
appeal the Queen. He was falling behind though, not being as big as
some.
Her mind was clouded by lust, but she could still decide. Not some
young thing to be wooed by beauty, Orlaith knew that she had to choose a
strong mate-not only one who could catch a dragon as big as she, but also one
who would give healthy eggs. As she flew, she knew Vilarth had chosen
Menanth and there had been a healthy clutch-mostly healthy. He was young,
though, and would never be able to run a Weyr. Zackariath could but the
bronze grew older and perhaps his eggs wouldn't be plenty. Her other suitors
received a glance or two as she flew onward and upward, but in the end, when
she began to fall-it was again Nikornath who drew her favor. }:Now is the time!:{
}:I told you so,:{ came the bronze's smug reply. Nikornath spoke to his mate
even as he caught her, joining with her as soon as he could.
Bitterly disappointed, Menanth made his way back to the Weyr. He'd
been so sure! Disappointment and lust rolled through D'ren and he
reached out for a willing companion. First he would satisfy the
physical need, then he would console his dragon.
Zackariath bellowed his disappointment and turned to fly lazily back to Weyr.
U'das didn't hesitate to find himself a company.
