Almonteo

Almonteo

Polmor was putting the finishing touches on the body of the gitar he
had been devoting countless hours to for some time now. He ran his
hands over the smooth wood, checking for blemishes or issues that
might affect the instrument.

"Perfect," he breathed. Looking up he realized he had no idea when he
had last seen the journeyman and apprentice who were supposed to be
polishing and varnishing the neck and bridge for him.

"Hmm," he muttered to himself as he looked around. Setting the body of
the gitar down on his work table, Polmor stood. That was when he felt
the muscles in his back constrict. Clearly he had been sitting for
much longer than he realized, not an uncommon occurance for him. His
stomach also growled. When was the last time he'd eaten? He didn't
recall.

"Aren't you hungry, Master Polmor?" the Hallmaster asked from the
doorway, surprised to see the instrument maker still at his post.
"The food will be gone if you don't hurry."

"Master Almonteo," Polmor said brightly. "I didn't even hear you
approach." Not that that was a surprise. When Polmor was working he
hardly paid attention to anything or anyone else. "I couldn't resist
finishing the body of this gitar. I swear it's one of the best I've
made yet," Polmor rubbed his hands lovingly over the wood. "So, what
brings you to my doorway?"

"Just wandering the halls," the Hallmaster said with a smile as he
stepped into the room. "The natural light really makes a difference,
doens't it?"

"Oh yes, most definitely," Polmor replied, looking towards the windows
and the light that bathed the room around them. "I do believe I've
done my best work since coming here." He paused, "Not that my other
work wasn't my best of course!" Polmor would _never_ admit that
something he created was less than perfect, of course.

"Of course," the Hallmaster nodded. "And I would agree. You have
raised yourself to a whole new level. The inlay is fantastic."
Almonteo ran a long finger over the pattern on the neck of the
instrument.

Polmor all but puffed up his chest at the compliment. "Why, thank you
Master Almonteo," he gushed. Praise from the Hallmaster was always
greatly appreciated.

"This particular instrument was designed after a rather fun party I
attended last month. The designs remind me of a tapestry I was
fascinated with at the time. I couldn't resist entwining them into the
wood." Polmor often found inspiration for his designs all around him.

"Inspiration comes from all sorts of things." The master obviously had
an artistic eye. "A true master knows how to not only look for the
finer details in things, but how to make them suit their needs. You can
be proud of this one, Polmor. Bring it to my office when it is finished
and let me see it, will you?"

"Of course!" Polmor replied enthusiastically. "It would be an honor to
share it with you." Polmor, like so many other Harpers and Master
Craftsman always appreciated someone who could see the exceptional
work he did.

"Perhaps you'd care to chat about _your_ favorite instruments over
some dinner?" Polmor asked, knowing he would need to eat before he
could possibly continue the work he so adored.

"I would love to. If I can pry you away," Almonteo said with a nod to
his work.

Polmor's stomach growled. "I think _that_ speaks volumes. One can't
create a masterpiece on an empty stomach!" Polmor chuckled a bit at
that. "Besides having the Hallmaster's ear for a bit could be
worthwhile." Polmor was already thinking of ideas to share with
Almonteo. Ways they could make things better, things to change about
the Hall. Yes, so many wonderful ideas, it would be lovely to have
someone to share them with!
