Description: Bahji and U'fouinn meet over some Threads and get to be friends
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 13 of Turn 6
Sliding delicate fingers over the strands of washed wool, Bahji
carefully coiled and spun them on the small drop spindle she was
given. It was a simple device,
very basic, but it kept her hands busy while she listened to the
conversations of the other
weavers around her. She kept a small smile on her face, only speaking when
directly spoken to; it was easy for the others to forget the blind girl. She
often discovered that many people forgot that she wasn?t deaf as well
as blind. She had long past thought it offensive. Instead she found it
rather humorous.
As she listened to comments about this rider, or that other craftsman,
she laughed softly. So many were wrapped up in their own romances and
it was amazing what she had learned, just by listening.
U'fouinn had come to the weaving room to gather some additional
supplies for his current project. As he entered he was distracted and
happened to bump into the girl sitting off to the side.
"I'm _soo_ sorry," he apologized.
The drop spindle fell from her fingers at the bump, causing an "Oh,
fardles..." to come from her mouth. The wool stretched in her fingers
but didn't break, allowing her to snatch the spindle quickly.
Her brow furrowed as she lifted her head. "It's alright." She felt
carefully along the delicate strand she was spinning. "Nothing
harmed."
He noticed the way she used her fingers so deftly. U'fouinn admired
that immediately.
"Great save there. I'm U'fouinn," he added, having not seen her in the
weaver rooms before.
Turning her head towards him, Bahji offered a smile. "Thank you."
She laid the spindle on her lap, carefully keeping the wool twined
around her fingers so as not to tangle it with the already spun
strands. "I'm Bahji."
"Its nice to meet you," U'fouinn replied. Then nodding towards her
work he asked, "what are you working on at the moment?"
"Same to you." Bahji tucked a stray strand of of short hair behind
her ear. Her eyes stared past U'fouinn, her fingers plucking
lightly at the strands in her fingers. "I'm spinning wool." She
held up the spindle to illustrate. "I can't work the spinning wheels,
so this is a more simple method." Her brow furrowed. "Did you need
help with something?"
He was watching her as she spoke. He noticed her eyes didn't follow
things the way he would have expected. Tilting his head curiously,
U'fouinn wondered. Her words also made him wonder. "I was just hear to
get some new threads for a tapestry I'm working on," he replied. Then
found it necessary to ask her, "Why can't you use the spinning wheel?"
He had begun to surmise the answer, but was still curious to see if he
was correct.
"Threads? Already dyed or are you wanting to dye them yourself?
>From what I understand they have a new vat of red that is very
rich in color and depth." She paused and laughed softly."It's far
too complex and no one has really had the time to guide me
through the steps." Bahji kept the smile on her face, clearly
understanding of time constraints on her fellow weavers. "It will
take me a little while longer to learn. " She lifted her fingers and
wiggled them in front of her. "I'm good, but not that good."
U'fouinn was sure of it then. Bahji clearly had a problem with her eyes.
"Well, when I'm not fighting Thread with Amizth or doing other rider
duties, I tend to have a lot of free time. If, that is, you want some
help learning." He paused and then added, "I'm not so great myself,
mind you, but I have learned alot and enjoy doing it," U'fouinn needed
to make some more friends. Sure, he _knew_ lots of people, but he
wasn't overly close with many of them.
"Oh, you're a rider!" She smiled brightly. "I should have known, but
that spicy smell is every where sometimes so most times I just
don't pay attention." She laid the spindle on her lap, forgetting about
it for the moment. "Sure, we could work together. But you have to
tell me about your dragon. The ones I've met have been absolutely
lovely." Her expression warmed and dimples deepened in her
cheeks.
U'fouinn's smile was genuine as his eyes seemed to drift a bit,
thinking of his dragon.
"Amizth is a true lifemate. She is gentle, compassionate, and loving.
She's also very fun and playful. You would like her. She likes
everyone. Would you like to meet her?"
"Of course I would...if she wouldn't mind and if you're not too
busy." She couldn't see his smile, but she felt the warmth of
his voice. She paused. "You're a greenrider, right? I've never
met a green. Just a blue. He was very quiet."
Ufouinn chuckled, "Amizth is anything but quiet. She's super friendly.
Why don't we plan to meet soon so I can introduce you two. Where can I
find you? Are you always here in the weaver's chambers?"
"I would really love that." She picked up her spindle and gave a
light sigh. "Yes. I'm usually here. I'm familiar with this place, at
least. I tend to run into people otherwise. Literally." She shrugged
delicate shoulders. "But you haven't gotten what you needed.
Maybe I can help?"
"Of course! My new threads," U'fouinn exclaimed, having almost
forgotten. "I would love your help. You mentioned a new batch of red,
I'll need to measure at least a tunic's worth to help me finish the
tapestry I'm on. Perhaps you can help me wrap it until we think there
is enough and then I could help you with your project if you need
help."
"Be glad to." Bahji carefully rose, setting her spindle aside, but
wrapped the rolled strands of wool carefully so they wouldn't unravel.
"I know where they're kept, but can't exactly point out the red for you.
Her eyes twinkled merrily. "You'll have to do that. They're in the
the cabinet to your right. I'll help you wrap them."
