Description: Kaya mends Wirnan's shirt and the two get along for a change
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 12, day 1 of Turn 6
Kaya turned the shirt right side out and examined the seam that had
ripped. To her eye she could barely tell that the fabric had
practically been torn. She had double stitched it to give it more
strength. Surely it would help." she lay the shirt upon her lap,
then smoothed it over her knees. It was a nice shirt and certainly
worthy of saving, even with a tear. She idly wondered how he had
managed to do it in the first place.
Wirnan opened the door, arriving home earlier than usually this day.
His eyes fell on Kaya, with his shirt in his lap. He paused at the
door for a moment, just watching her. "Hello, I'm home early today."
He smiled at her, a genuine smile that said he was actually happy to
see her for a change.
The smile surprised her when she looked up at her husband, and yet she
was glad for it. Too long had he come in, sullen, unhappy. Not that
she was much better. Somehow, that simple gesture seemed to brighten
the room. Her own wasn't as bright, the smile was small, but it was
something. Her heart was still heavy with its sorrow, but a ray of
sunshine peeked through. "Hi. You...finished your work?"
He saw the smile, small but true and it lifted his own spirits even
higher. Perhaps there really was still hope for them somewhere,
somehow if they could just work through these issues. Maybe...just
maybe.
"Yes, I got everything done for the day and decided I needed a few
hours away from it all. I had planned to go for a walk or a ride to
take in the fresh air," **Actually I had figured it would be better to
_not_
hang around,** he thought, but seeing her smile, his thoughts
had changed. He nodded his head towards the shirt as he came further
into the room, "Thank you for mending my shirt."
"Of course. I know you particularly like it." Kaya's fingers fiddled
at the work, but then she held the garment out so that Wirnan could
take it. When he did, she leaned over to clean up her sewing
supplies. As she replaced her scissors, she gave Wirnan a sidelong
glance. "Where are you going to go?"
He held the shirt in his hands, gazing at it. A pleased feeling
growing inside him, knowing she had repaired it for him, that she even
noticed how much he liked it.
"Well, I really hadn't thought about where to go overly much. Would
you care to join me and perhaps we could make plans together?"
She paused after she closed the lid to the sewing basket.
"I...suppose it would be good to get out for a bit."
"Wonderful," Wirnan replied, a smile lighting up his face. He actually
_wanted_ to spend time with her. For the first time in months it
seemed as though things were looking up. "Let me go change and I'll be
ready in a few moments." He disappeared into the bedroom, returning a
few moments later looking a bit more relaxed and ready to head outside
for a leisurely stroll.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Ready." Her sewing basket had been put away and Kaya couldn't think
of any reason to delay. So she followed her husband through the door,
then closed it behind them.
