His jaw was tight and his foot falls quick as Karhal approached the Lord
Holder's office. The situation with Chupsin was far too familiar for his
comfort; it hit too close to home. But, he had a job to do and Zathris would
have to be notified. Locking down every bit of emotion had become easier and
would make this notification a bit smoother. Only a tense jaw revealed that
he was feeling more than he professionally should.

He rapped on the door lightly and waited, hands clasped behind his back.

"Enter." Zathris looked up as the door opened and an eyebrow arched upward
as he saw who it was. "Ah, Karhal. What can I do for you?"

Coming in, Karhal gave a slight bow of respect and quickly got to the point,
his voice clipped and his words concise. "I'm sorry to report that I was
informed by Daihmin that Healer Chupsin found his wife and child dead last
night, Lord Zathris. Staff have examined the woman and have concluded that
no foul play was evident. According to Daihmin, the Healers believe
something gave way in her brain and it is the cause."

"What?" Zathris stared at the guard for a moment before the words truly sank
in. Once they did, he rose to his feet. "Dead? She was so young..." And he
had known someone else who had been young and died all too soon.

"Yes. She was." The muscle in his jaw tensed for a moment. "Chupsin is in
shock, which is expected. The grief hasn't really hit him yet, so there will
be a discreet guard placed near him. Just in case."

"Shards..." Zathris ran a hand through his hair. He didn't really see
Chupsin as the type to do anything drastic, but nodded at the mention of the
guard. "I should go see him. Is he in his room?"

At that, Karhal's brows raised, but quickly buried his surprise. One of the
reasons he liked Zathris as a Lord Holder was the way he cared for those
under his protection. "As far as I know, yes. I am going to inform Alivya's
family after I leave here. Would you like a further investigation in the
matter?"

"Has she been officially examined by another healer?" If so and the cause
was determined as definitely natural, Zathris didn't see a point in
investigating.

"Yes, I believe so. Daihmin is making the official report as he was the one
on duty when she was found. I'll bring you a copy as soon as I have it."

"I'll determine whether further investigation is needed once I have that
report.
For now, I'm going to go see Chupsin." Zathris was all too familiar with the
Healer's situation.

Karhal nodded briefly and bowed. Zathris had come to see him as well after
Orhla had passed, though in truth, he only vaguely remembered the visit.
"Very well. I'll let you know if anything else is discovered.
