U'kaiah pointed to a long squiggle that had wound it's way across the
scrap of paper. "What's this?" he asked the young artist that sat on
his knee.

"Kalamath," Ravyan replied with the indignant tone of *are you daft that
you can't see it?*

The bronzerider was used to feeling a little foolish around the toddler.
He was as good at putting the Wingleader in his place as his mother
was. "Ah, yes, I see it now. And I supposed that's Kjarliheth?"

"A-ha," Ravyan made an affirmative sound. He wasn't very talkative boy.
His tongue stuck out when he concentrated to his drawing.

U'kaiah watched over his shoulder, still not sure what all the squiggles
and swirls were supposed to be. Did Ravyan really see something he
didn't? The brain of a young child amazed him, sometimes. "What are
you drawing now?"

"Mom, and you," Ravyan pointed parts in the hide that could be
interprited as stick figures, with imagination.

"Your mama looks beautiful, doesn't she," U'kaiah smiled, giving the
boy's hair an affectionate ruffle.

"Yes," Ravyan agreed whole-heartily and smiled. He really enjoyed the
attention he got from the bronzerider.

That brought a grin to U'kaiah's face as well. "Where are you in the
picture? You should be there, too, you know."

"S'not done yet," Ravyan pointed out. "Kaiafel too," he added with
moment of pondering.

"I think Kaiafel would like that." The bronzerider was glad that Ravyan
included his son in the picture. He liked that they seemed to get along
so well. Kaiafel needed a brother, one that was close, and one who did
more than drool, though Kaiavin hopefully would someday be in Ravyan's
pictures as well. "So what are we all doing in your drawing, hm?"

"Just being," Ravyan replied absently.

"I see." U'kaiah leaned his elbow on the table and rested his chin in
his hand. He studied the boy's face, eyes smiling. It was so easy to
see Aileyan in the boy. The evidence of her ran deeper than their
outward features. Perhaps that more than anything had made it so easy
for the bronzerider to open his heart to Ravyan more than he ever
thought he could.

After watching him work for a few minutes silently, he asked, "So after
you finish this picture, what do you want to do? We have the whole day
together."

"Ride Kalamath?" Ravyan suggested hopefully.

"Where do you want to go?"

"Beach, see dolphins," Rayan said, his face shining like tropical sun
withthe hope of seeing dolphins.

U'kaiah almost suggested the beach at the Dolphin Hall, but thought
better of it. It was a little too close to Dolphin Cove. Much as he
hoped one day his two "families" might come together, he didn't want to
push the matter with Aileyan or Tavia, even unintentionally. "Well, we
can see if the dolphins are there. If they're not we can just hunt for
flit eggs I guess."

Ravyan nodded. "Swimming trousies!" he rushed to his little trunk where
he kept his clothes and toys to find the pants he always used when
swimming.

"Hold on there, son," U'kaiah laughed, gathering up the discarded
coloring set. "Shouldn't we wait and see if your mother might want to
go when she wakes up?"

Ravyan stopped and turned to stare him with his lower lip pushing
outwardson to a pout.

Shards, he looked so much like his mother when he did that. It made it
very hard to be firm with Aileyan's eyes looking back at him. "Well..."
He bit his lip, looking between the boy and his mother's sleeping area.
"I guess we could leave a note..."

"Yeah, a note," Ravyan agreed, his face liting up again.

"All right, buddy," U'kaiah said, grabbing a crayon from the box and
pulling out another scrap of hide. "Looks like it's just the two of us.
Go put your swim clothes on."

"Yee!" he run off to do just that.
