Description: Sarban and Felyna have breakfast and she tells him her news.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 9, day 1 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Nikhan, Lisadi, Miranek, Erassa, Corowal
Sitting down at the head table for breakfast, Sarban looked to see if there
was a plate of goodies from Nikhan. He was beginning to think they should have
built a baker hall instead of a harper hall. The man was worth his weight in
marks, for Faranth's sake.
Felyna stopped in the dining room to make sure things were going well. She
would stop by the kitchens too, as was her habit in the mornings. She did
not _have_ to directly oversee the staff; that's what Headwomen were for,
but she also knew that her willingness to visit among the kitchen girls and
drudges was a useful habit and was looked very favorably upon by the residents.
Rather than being annoyed by her presence, they seemed to just accept her and
take her as one of them since her nature was so pleasant..and sincere.
And really, she sincerely cared about all the people that worked to keep
Emerald Falls running, and their lives. So it was easy to be seen that way.
She was.
Smiling happily, she spotted Sarban eating breakfast alone. Well at least
she could say hello. She paused by his table. "Morning Sarban. Spy any of
Nikhan's special treats yet?"
"Not yet. I smell something, though perhaps they'll come. And how
are you this morning, Lady?" He pulled his bread apart and began to put some
butter on it, searching for the preserves he preferred.
Felyna smiled as she watched Sarban. It was really too bad about he and
Lisadi. She would have to find someone else for him. She answered his
question while her mind went leaping off thinking of match-making. "I am
well enough. A bit sick, but a little bread might help me." Did Sarban know?
A hint of mischief twinkled in her eyes.
"Sick? Have you been to see Master Miranek then?" he asked absentmindedly.
Sarban, being of the usual sailor ilk, didn't see them unless he thought the
need were dire-like a spinner bite that looked like it might take his entire
hand with it. He still hated the detestable creatures.
She shook her head. "Not yet, but I need to go. I would like to have him
pronounce me a very fit pregnant woman." She slid in the comment with a
sideways glance to the Steward.
He was quiet for a bit, then he looked at her, watching her. **Well look at
that. She's done it then. And good on Corowal. Give her time and she might
just have the fostermother out on her arse** "Well then congratulations are
in order. Do you know when?" There was a genuine smile on his face.
A proud smile graced her sweet face, and she counted on her fingers. "Around
month 11 or 12. I need to see Miranek to make certain. I am planning to
visit him today." Her smile turned a bit mischievous. "But just because I am
having a baby, that doesn't mean my match-making ways have stopped. We need
to still marry you off." She peered at him curiously. Was he still with
Lisadi? She hadn't thought so, but she could be wrong...
He waved a hand. "She's leaving but she will come back. I just have to wait
for a bit." Hoping that things worked themselves out, Sarban sighed. He had
waited this long, what was a few more months?
"Oh, Sarban. I'm so sorry," she said sincerely. She didn't meddle
just to meddle, though some of her fun did come from ordering other people's
lives to suit her own desires. She meddled in romances because she believed
everyone deserved someone to love and everyone deserved a chance at
happiness. Everyone but her, really. She had not married for love, and was
not yet sure if love was going to be part of her own marriage. But if she
couldn't have it, she could make sure other folks around her did have
it.
"You can help me by planning for the baby if you need something to keep
busy. None of my children will be in the line to inherit Emerald Falls, but
I would like to see what options there might be for one of my children.
Probably Crafters, but still, I am curious."
"Well babies themselves are womens' work. I wouldn't know anything about
that. As far as options, a lot of that would depend on what the child is
able and skilled to do which we wouldn't know until much later. If you want
to know more about the craft structure and the sort of jobs available here,
I can do that." Of course general holders themselves were invaluable. "Then
again Corowal and I want to settle some of the older minor holds that the
plague left empty. In time perhaps your babe could take one of those."
"I didn't mean planning to care for the baby. Of course that is for me and
my Ladies. But yes, I was thinking about what minor holdings there might
be.... Someday." Her gaze was far away, lost in thought. Her children would
never inherit Emerald Falls itself, and while it was a bit disheartening,
she knew the truth of it, and dealt with it in her fashion. That was just
fine. But perhaps there were other things for them. She would like to see at
least one of them as a Holder.
She smiled again, coming back to his presence. "I had better run off and see
when Miranek can see me." She rose to her feet easily.
"My duty to you, Lady. And don't run yourself ragged. Don't forget to
eat-for two now." He almost laughed at his own little joke, then realized it
wasn't really funny. Still, he was glad that Corowal's-and his-family was
growing, through a legitimate wife.
