What now? Catien thought irritably. She hadn't done that maneuver
wrong, it was fat, arrogant little N'jarren, anyone with half a brain
could have seen that! He had been a jerk before the Hatching and now
that he had Impressed a bronze he was an insufferable little twat. So
why was it_her_that had to do to E'naer's office and not him? It was
so unfair! She sighed mightily as she stormed off to E'naer's office.

Her knock on the office door betrayed her annoyance with its striation.

"Please, come in!" E'naer called and tried to rescue his pen from his
firelizard. "That's not food," he said. He already had several hides
with chewed in corners. J'darin was going to love those!

The tiny weyrling blundered in, exclaiming, "it_wasn't_my fault!
Oranth and I were in the right position, N'jarrren's always messing
up!" The boy had made so much trouble for the girl weyrlings that she
felt no guilt over ratting him out. And besides, he was Holder bred.
She stopped before E'naer's desk, her arms crossed, her short blond
hair a bit of a tunnelsnake's nest.

"Eh? What?" E'naer was caught by surprise by her rant and lost the
battle for the pen. She disappeared with a pop with her spoils of war.

"N'jarren tattling on me...isn't that why I'm here?" Mentally she
kicked herself. Just because the 'third was her friend's lover didn't
mean she could act like this. "Sir?"

"No, it's not about whatever squabble you and N'jarren have, again.
Sit down, please," E'naer said with a patient tone of a person used to
deal with teenage tantrums.

"Oh..." Stunned into obedience she did just that.

"Do you realize that you're a Senior weyrling now and what it means?"
E'naer asked.

"I..uh...we're going /between/ soon?" Catrien could still remember
that horrible day that Cardella's best friend had gone /between/ and
hadn't come out.

"Well, that too but also that your green is getting close to maturity.
It won't be long before first greens in your class start Rising. Some
early bloomers can Rise very early. Are you ready for it?

"I...ugh...". The girl's face went white as a sheet as it dawned on
her just what he was talking about. "Boys! Yuck!"

"Boys-yuck, yes, horrible, smelly, noisy creatures," E'naer said with
sarcasm. "Perhaps you should try to find yourself a real man then? You
need to have some experience before Oranth Rises. If you don't, the
first time may turn out to be a traumatic for you. A mating Flight is
not a good time to loose virginity. If you're lucky, your partner
realizes your lack of experience and can restrain himself, but mostly
like he only notices it _afterwards_."

"I uh...I erm..." He was talking about_that_right? She shuddered just
thinking about a man...naked and...and...and... Her face went from
white to green.

"You're greenrider now. That's part of your life now," E'naer said. He
was starting to feel concerned about her.

"Uh...uh...uh..." She knew this...didn't she? Remembering how G'wen
was as a child, she blurted out, "yeah but G'wen was all shy and hated
boys when he Impressed...and he got through it all okay. Better than
okay, he loved--" She shut her mouth when she realised her babbling
was ratting it out to G'wen's lover that he had been quite passionate
with Sh'lua. She wasn't sure what E'naer did and didn't know.

"Yes, I remember quite well how G'wen was," E'naer nearly rolled his
eyes. "He also got over his aversion _before_ Neanth Rose for the
first time."

"Oh...". What now? She turned her desperate gaze fully onto E'naer.

"You want me to arrange a date for you?" E'naer asked gently. He knew
several riders, blue and brown, who would be happy to help her out.

Mutely, she did the only thing she could do. She nodded.
