Capturing Memories

Writers: Devin, Heather K
Date Posted: 5th June 2012

Characters: J'kri, Delria
Description: Jykri attempts to sketch Camieth
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 4 of Turn 6

"Ready to do this?" Delria asked as she dismounted from her green. The
freedom to fly
was a privilege the pair was taking full advantage of. She approached
Jykri with a smile.
The recent weather had put off their meeting by a few sevendays so
Delria was itching to
see what the Candidate could do.

Jykri nodded. He'd brought along a sketchbook and a few new charcoal
pencils. For the last few sevendays he'd been sketching as much as he
could. "Is there a particular pose you'd like? A particular kind of
lighting?" He didn't have proper training since he'd never been an
apprentice, but some of the harpers at Amber Hills had humored him
when he came by to ask about drawing, or singing, or instrument making.

"I was sorta just going to let her choose. I want to remember her in
her natural state, whatever that is," Delria laughed and shrugged.
}: I don't think he could sketch me very well while I'm flying mine.:{
Camieth pointed out in a matter of fact tone.
**How very astute of you, my dear.** Delria teased her green back.
She relayed the conversation to the Candidate and then added, "I don't know
much about lighting. How about you tell her where to sit or stand and
she'll decide how to situate herself?"

"The Bowl has good natural light, so anywhere out here would be good."
Jykri flipped through his sketchbook to find a blank page. "Camieth, I
want you to show off for me. Give me your prettiest pose, but you have
to stay still for a while, so not something difficult."

Moving to an area she saw fit, Camieth settled down in as laying
position. Arching her neck ever so slightly and cruising her front
legs. Her wings she let drop a bit so as to catch the light.

}: I'm comfortable and ready.:{ Camieth informed her rider and Delria
dutifully pasted the message on to Jykri.

"Very beautiful," he complimented, wishing he had paint so he could
get the image in color. He'd have to do his best with charcoal. Jykri
bent over his sketchbook and started, making light, quick lines that
at first didn't look like much.

}: What's he doing? Does it look like me yet?:{ Camieth craned her neck
while trying not to move the rest of her body.

Putting her hands up to stop her green, "No, no. You can't move at
all, Cami. We'll tell you when it's done." To settle her lifemate,
Delria peeked over
Jykri's shoulder. Through her mind's eye maybe Camieth could understand. So far
it didn't really look like a dragon but she would be patient. She was no artist
herself after all.

As more lines appeared, they made the outline of a dragon. The drawing
got more and more detailed as Jykri worked, glancing up at Camieth
every few seconds. "Just a little longer." He assumed the young green
was like a child and wouldn't be able to hold still long. He needed to
get the shading right before she moved.

Delria's green eyes flicked between the page and her lifemate. It was all there
and even though the color wasn't there it still looked like her Camieth. **What
do you think?**

}: Is that what I look like?:{ The green asked as she inspected
herself as if trying
to spot discrepancies between the drawing and her physical form.

"Cami! Control yourself," Delria ordered her lifemate, annoyed. Even though she
wasn't the little
dragon Delria remembered she could still be just as headstrong. With
an eye roll she said
to Jykri, "Sorry, she gets curious."

"That's okay. If she could just shift back a little to where she was,
I almost have it." Jykri studied his work so far. It was decent.

With a shooing motion Delria said to her green, "Go on. You heard him. Back to
where you were."

}: Where was I?:{ Camieth asked in her most innocent and mockingly sincere
voice. She flicked her wings
back into place and put her head back where it was, cocking a brow just so.

With a serious frown, Jykri put in the last few details. He wished he
had candlemark, or more, but he was sure the green wouldn't be that
patient. "Okay, I'm done." He turned the sketchpad so Delria could get
a better look. "What do you think?"

Delria inspected the sketch. Well it looked like her lifemate to her
even withouther coloring. The picture certainly wasn't the best she'd
seen but she was still tickled pink that now she had something to
remember her by. "Oh I love it. Sorry
she wasn't super cooperative. Maybe when she gets older we can give it
another go
and she won't be so prone to squirming?"

He nodded. "She wasn't bad. You can't expect children or animals to
stay still, and I expect weyrling dragons are a bit of both."

"I suppose," Delria agreed. **You're few to move about now. Thanks for
trying.** She told her lifemate. "Well now that that's done with, have
time for a bite?"

"Sure." He carefully tore the sketch out of the book and handed it to
her. "Just make sure not to spill any food on that," he joked.
