Description: Ciara's green Ellianith rises over River Bluff.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 18 of Turn 6
She'd known it was coming for days the snapishness and generally
grumpy attitude of her normally sweet natured lifemate had her on
edge. Now she stood in the morning light of what promised to be a
beautiful day and watched the glowing mint green hide. Her morning
klah was cupped in her hands keeping off the slight morning chill.
"She's going to rise when she wakes," Ciara said softly as she came
back into their Weyr. As if to put period to her words a piercing cry
sounded from the outer Weyr. She put down her cup and smiled a little
guardedly at her weyrmate. "There she goes." The rider made for the
door and the mating cots.
Green wings carried the rutting dragon to the feeding pens for a
momentary stop before she shot into the sky with a challenging bugle.
}:Catch me if you can!:{
}:Oh I can!:{ Leith replied before he thought of how arrogant it sounded.
The blue had leagues on the heavier dragons and didn't have to take time to
make his mind up. Besides, he loved the ladies and wouldn't miss his chance
to spend a mating flight's outcome with another one.
E'rae felt the feelings jerk through him and shuddered visibly. He didn't
yet ask about who it was. Usually with greens it didn't matter much and he
liked both men and women so he wasn't worried about gender. Instead, he gave
a sheepish grin to the folk around him and tried to hurry to the mating cots
without help from his own dragon.
Zackariath wanted to chase. U'das wasn't quite as eager when he find out
who's green it was. Ciara was a mate to his friend. U'das shook his bald
head. ** You're silly, Zack, if you think you can challenge Nikornath when
it's his mate who Rises!**
}: I'll try. I love her. :{ Zack was puffing out his chest (figurtively of
course).
** You love them all,** U'das replied with a roll of his eyes.
Im're and Gormth joined the group too. This was first time since their
injury for Gormth to take a part in a green flight. It was certainly a
positive sign of their recovery but on otherhand, they were as nervous as
they had been in their very first time.
K'sedel had followed his weyrmate, a smile of anticipation on his face. The
addition of a flight brought a little extra spice to their relationship, one
that they both relished.
}:You know _I_ will catch you,:{ Nikornath told Ellianith even as he made
his way into the air. }:We fly well together, us and our riders.:{
S'yei's Yalith had chased a lot of greens since they'd moved to River
Bluff but they'd yet to actually make the catch. To S'yei winning a
mating flight was neither here nor there; he enjoyed winning, but it
also didn't bother him to not participate either. To the bluerider a
glass of wine was _just_ as good as a flight, which he was sure would
earn him some raised eyebrows if he ever said that aloud.
Yalith followed the green into the air, his blue hide gleaming
brilliantly. The dragon didn't speak to the green, he felt the others
had done enough of that. He would fly close to her for the entire
flight and show her his agility to prove himself, words weren't
needed, in his opinion.
Aerrath was up after her before R'yin even really knew what was
happening. He groaned to himself, trying to shake off the reluctance.
Aerrath _always_ chased Ellianith, always. The last time he'd
caught her, though, had been not long before she'd found out she was
pregnant with Radela.
That was two turns ago now. Two turns?! Why did he still go through
this, every time?
But Aerrath always chased, and R'yin was left to deal with the
consequences of keeping his dragon happy. He would never deny his
dragon, but he often wished his own wishes lined up with Aerrath's.
But that was the time he had for thought before he was surrounding
Ciara with the others and he felt Aerrath's desire for his old mate
burning through his blood.
The brown crooned after the beautiful green. }:You know me, lovely.
You know I will fly you well.:{ And he was after her, with all the
rest. He knew Ellianith of old, though, and knew her tricks better
than anyway save perhaps her current mate. He would catch her and
make her his again.
Sebeth arrowed after the green. }:I will fly you well, beautiful
Ellianith.:{ He stayed close behind her, with just enough room to
follow any sudden changes in direction.
Ellianith screamed defiance at the ones who tried to crowd her and
flipped her tail before she shot to the right and into a smallish
cloud. But instead of shooting through to the other side she turned
again rising straight up and away from her close followers. She wasn't
tired enough yet to think about choosing but Nikornath was very
handsome and powerful. She looked briefly at Zakariath then at the
brown who crooned so beautifully. He would fly her well.
Ciara sucked in a sharp breath on the ground following her
lifemate's thoughts first swaying toward K'mai, and I'mre, then K'sedel,
U'das and R'yin.
E'rae finally arrived in the mating cots to find everyone else there.
Feeling a bit like an idiot, he quickly took his place as he felt his
body give over to that of his dragon. This was no longer his time. The
knowledge hit him, though, of who this was and what that could mean.
Leith didn't care. The blue didn't have thoughts of an angry Wingleader. He
also didn't have feelings of inadequacy compared to some of the larger
dragons trying to catch. He was a good blue, made for greens like
this, and he had proven himself a good catcher many times over.
Besides that, the females couldn't help but be impressed by his
gorgeous hide and ability to outfly almost every other dragon there.
Rumbling loud enough for her to hear, he began to croon a sort of song
to Ellianith. His voice dipped and lilted at the same time as his body
dove and ascended. Leith hoped his charm would win her over.
Yalith-S'yei grew frustrated. As usual the brown and bronze dragons in
the green's flight drew all of the attention. Still, the blue wouldn't
give up, his let the currents fill his long, dark blue wings, carrying
him swiftly behind Ellianith, wedging him successfully between the
bronze and brown dragons. Now at least if she looked at Nikornath or
Zakariath she would _have_ to see him too!
Wings beating powerfully, Nikornath placed himself where his mate could see
him. She would choose him again, of that he was sure, and he wasted no more
time on words, choosing instead to ensure he would be ahead of all the other
dragons. Nobody else would claim this beautiful prize.
Gormth couldn't match the stronger browns and bronzes in strenght, but
he could outmanouver them with his speed and agility. Right now the
young blue hung back and tried to figure out the best strategy to win.
Problem was his lack of experience. How did one win a flight?
Zackariath called his admiration for the lovely green. He actually
enjoyed competing with Nikornath, who was both rival and friend to
him. If he could win over his mate, the sweeter the winning would be.
Aerrath stretched his wings and darted after Elli with a clever move
between dragons, coming up to her far side, trying to predict her
path. ?He, too, gave up on words, letting his flying skills and her
knowledge of him speak for him. ? ?He was a good, strong brown, steady
and sweet. ? She would not regret choosing him again!
K'sedel took a step closer to Ellianith, an echo of Nikornath in the sky as
he tried his hardest to close on the green. Straining, he came alongside her
for a moment, wanting to show the gorgeous green what he could do.
S'yei clenched his fists tightly as Yalith used his size and agility
to dart between the larger, bronze and brown dragons. This would
finally be his moment!
Sebeth fell behind briefly, shaken off by Ellianith's quick maneuver.
But he quickly caught back up with the bronzes, speed giving him an
advantage over the larger dragons. }: You are so beautiful, the most
beautiful of all greens. Choose me, the handsomest of all blues. I
will make you feel very good!:{ He added a little bugle for emphasis.
Ellianith cast a look over her shoulder at the valiant blue. She was
tiring and she knew she didn't have long until her choice was made for
her. She swayed and dipped slightly to place herself in the path of
Yalith.
As the green began to grow weary and drifted into his path, Yalith let
out an electric charged bugle of triumph using the last reserves of
his energy to blast forward and claim Ellianith. Gracefully twining
necks with the female, Yalith locked their talons together, his long
blue wings carrying them safely onward. On the ground, S'yei mimicked
his dragon's action, wrapping his arms around Ciara and claiming her.
R'yin turned away from the scene, burning with lust, but part of him was
oddly relieved. ?He had yearned for her, wanted her, but now he found
himself only too happy to find a willing partner and forget, for a while,
what he'd lost.
Nikornath bellowed with rage at not achieving the prize he so desired, the
bronze arrowed down from the sky, aiming for the coolness of the sea to ease
the burning lust. ?His rider headed back to their weyr, aiming to drown his
own feelings with a large wine skin.
Im're was almost relieved when he realized Gormth had lost the flight.
He wasn't sure he would have know what to do with a Woman. And she was
Weyrleader's mate too!
Zack was disappointed but the fact that Nikornath didn't catch her
either made him feel bit better. U'das was already looking for
company. He was not going to let the dragon lust go wasted.
Sebeth roared out his disappointment as he turned back toward the
Weyr. On the ground, his rider turned to the group of waiting people
who were eager to help him ease his loss. A beautiful dark haired
woman was one of the closest and he grabbed her. Even lost flights
could still be pleasant in the end.
