Description: Delria and Jykri meet over fresh herdbeast
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 16 of Turn 6
Delria still couldn't believe Camieth was hunting for herself. No more
bloody buckets, chopping knives, or blood spatters on her shirts. As
relieved as she was that her lifemate could now track down
herdbeasts on her own, Delria was still a little off put by the actual
act.
She stood with one leg up on the wooden fence and her head half
buried in her arms on the top board. To the passerby she supposed it
seemed she was crying but this was so far the only way she could keep
her stomach from lurching.
"Oh, wow." Jykri stopped when he saw the young green feeding. To him
it was more fascinating than disgusting.
She looked up and found the voice. It was unfamiliar to her and the
face of the boy didn't match anyone she remembered. "Yeah, I guess. At
least she gets the job done. I just wish there was a more civilized
way for her to do it."
"Using a plate and utensils?" he joked.
Delria rolled her eyes at the joke, all the while wishing it could only be true
even if it would look utterly ridiculous.
}: No. Not ever.:{ Camieth said in response to her rider's thoughts
before taking
a pointedly juicy bite out of the herdbeast's belly. Delria grimaced in return.
"No, of course not. Just some way to, I don't know, reduce splatter?"
Jykri shrugged. "It's not pretty, but it bothers me less than watching
a heardbeast get slaughtered." He'd watched it a few times, enough to
know that butchering, at least, was something he wasn't interested in.
"Hm, I suppose that would be worse. At least this way it's all just...eaten
and you don't have to see it again. You know, like that herdbeast won't end up
on my plate at dinner tonight," Delria replied.
"Well, yeah. A dragon eating a heardbeast is just sort of ...
natural." Jykri shrugged. "Not that I think it's _unnatural_ for us to
eat meat. It's just that watching a herdbeast killed by a person makes
me uncomfortable. I feel sad for it, and it's somehow not as sad when
a dragon eats one." Maybe because dragons were so wonderful to watch,
no matter what they were doing.
"This is true. I mean animals and even dragons are supposed to eat
each other. Can't really argue with nature." Turning towards the boy,
Delria offered a hand. "I'm Delria and she's Camieth," she said
indicating her green who was now stalking her third and probably final
victim. "Pleasure to meet someone who understands."
"I'm Jykri, nice to meet you." He took the offered hand. "She's
beautiful, although I seem to think that about every dragon."
Turning back to the field and her lifemate, Delria sighed. "No, no,
you're absolutely correct. She is beautiful but of course I am just a
little bias."
**Still though you really are, dear one.** She complimented her green.
Delria had never been more proud if any thing.
}: Even with my bloody muzzle?:{
**Of course.**
"How old is she?" Jykri asked.
"Just a few months old if you can believe it," she answered. Gazing
out at her green she wondered what she'd look like full grown.
"They grow very fast." It must seem even faster when it was your own dragon.
"Pfft, you could say that. I wish I had a picture of her when she was a dragonet
just to remember it and of course show her. It would be a nice
keepsake." Delria
was partial to keepsakes and trinkets. She loved little momentos and things to
remember times in her life by.
"You should've had someone sketch her for you. I'm sure a harper
apprentice would have. Or I could have." He needed to get a sketch pad
and some pencils. Why hadn't he thought of it sooner? All these
dragons and the huge Weyr itself ... he needed to start drawing again!
"It wasn't exactly one of the foremost thoughts in my head. I was busy all the
time caring for Camieth and going to class and what not. Maybe though we could
prevent this from happening again though? You said you draw?" Delria
was of course
be interested if Jykri had a talent for sketching. Camieth was in her
prime and now
was a good a time as any to get it down on hide.
"Well, I'm not properly trained or anything, but it is a hobby of mine."
Delria shrugged. "No matter. We'll give it a go and see what you've
got. Shall we say next restday then? I assume morning light would be
best and she won't have had a chance to get dirty yet."
"That sounds good. Should we meet in the bowl right outside the
Hatching Grounds, then?" He glanced over at the green, already trying
to figure out the best way to draw her.
"Sounds good. We'll be there. It was nice meeting you, Jykri. Cami and
I have to get going though. Class and all that. See you soon!" She
waved and smiled as she
ran to catch up with her green.
