Benani

Benani
Lady Felyna

Felyna

It was time to check in on her friend, and fellow Lady Holder, Benani.
She also had some exciting news of her own to tell her. But, being
unable to visit her in person, she instead picked up a quill and
parchment and bent to write a letter.

~*~

Dearest Benani,

I write with a great deal of interest in how you are feeling. There
was some whisper of complications of your wonderful pregnancy and I
just won't hear of it! In fact, I would be glad to come and stay with
you until the babes are born, if you would like, though I know you
have plenty of willing tenders there at your home.

I do hope all is well!

I have packages to send when it is time, so maybe I'll come with the
packages myself.

To distract us from the joys of being wives and mothers, I should tell
you what's been going on here. Corowal still refusing to give us his
foster mother living in our home. Its the most aggravating of
situations! I mean, I am perfectly capable of caring for the children
when needed, especially now that they are older and one has come to
foster with you. How is he, by the way? Has he run off with a
runner yet? He did that once a month here, or so it seems. He's mad
about runners and adventures and life in general. I wish you joy of
his infuriating, beautiful crazy ways!

Well, perhaps now that I am to have a babe of my own, Corowal can be
persuaded to change our living arrangements.

Yes! I am pregnant too! Far behind you, obviously, and I want nothing
to diminish your own happiness. But just think! Our children will be
close in age and may even grow up friends. Wouldn't that be
wonderful?

In other news, we try to keep an eye on the new Lord Holder, Morin,
and his Hold. It seems some of our settlers are going missing before
they get close enough to settle here. I don't begrudge anyone
success, though, so I am only watching, curious to see what Corowal
will do. I'm very curious about this new Lord Holder. Where did he
come from? Will he be happy now that he's been Confirmed? I hope
so.

Ahh..speaking of Morin... have you any likely ladies we could "foster"
there? I have one of my own, but perhaps we could send one from Amber
Hills at the same time, not only would they have companionship, but it
would look less like "we" are watching "him". It would look more
like we are welcoming him to the family, so to speak.

And he needs a wife, don't you think?

Well, I hear the children coming in from lessons. I had best go see
to them.

Please tell me how you are!!! And if you want me to come!

Warm wishes,
Felyna

Luckily, she had her own message delivery service, and called Xebex to
her. Giving her blue flit a treat, she scritched his chin and then
sent him on his way to Benani.

Her days had begun to drag now that they were no longer filled with
duties. Other than sitting on her bed and stitching or talking with
whoever came by to talk to her she slept and ate the meals Chupsin had
ordered.

Every once in awhile Zelanka sent her a special treat like the little
redfruit tarts that had been one of her favorites since she was a
child. Zelanka had even had cook whip some cream to put on top. That was
special. Today though she was looking out the window at snow gently
falling from a gray sky. Her own mood matched the gray. That was until
a little blue flit popped in and chattered at her from the foot of the
bed. She tempted him with a bit of meat from her lunch and he finally
he came close enough for a scritch and some praise before giving her
what he carried. "Felyna," she grinned. Her day had brightened
considerably. She picked up her writing implements and began a reply.

Dearest Felyna,

How wonderful to hear your news! I am so happy that you are to be a
mother at last. Well, of course you are already a mother of quite the
brood. But, how happy you shall be to hold your own first babe. I know
I can hardly wait to get these two out from behind my ribs. They seem
to delight in kicking them at the oddest times.

Corofel is well and learning from Zathris. He spends at least an hour
each day with the young man. Corofel seems to enjoy the few trips they've
taken on runner back. Zathris has given him the use of a fine one and
I can sometimes see him out in the yard where my brother and Petriv
train him in proper care and feeding of his mount. He is in no way
allowed to shirk those duties and has been reminded from time to time
that even a Lord must sometimes care for his own mount.

He spends even more time with Wirnan who has told my husband that
Corofel has a fine mind and grasps the concepts quickly though it's
when he grows bored that trouble ensues. There is quite the conspiracy
to keep his every waking moment occupied.

I am now confined to my bed by the healers. Journeyman Chupsin has
said the babies weight was stressing me and had caused some early
labor. So to keep them safe, I stay here and rest as I am instructed
to do. Your letter has been the delight of my day and I do hope you
will visit. I long to see you and kiss your cheek.

As for Corowal, I send you my very best thoughts and wishes that this
situation will change for you. I hope he will see what a fine mother
you are to all his children.

Zathris has shared his own thoughts about Morin with me and I have to
say you are well advised in your approach. My own nieces Arippa and
Faldrimme are of a good age but their uncle is quite protective of
their own right to choose. I doubt he would allow me to send either
one of them. Arippa has a suitor even now in your Holder Namrien of
Grass Valley. She seems taken with him and I think they would suit. I
had thought of sending her to you to foster during their courtship if
you would be willing.

Ah, your little Xebex is getting restless so I must close. Be well my
dear Felyna and enjoy this time. I will think more on this Morin.

All my best,
Benani

She gave the little flit another treat and her message. Then urged him
on his way back to her friend.
