Jaylene

Jaylene

The night sky was dark except for the moons and the twinkling stars. The
blanket was on the ground and everything was quiet as the people looked
up in anticipation. E'rae sat close to Jaylene, anticipating what was
coming. And then the fireworks started.

The lovely woman jumped and laughed at her reaction. "You'd think I
never saw a few of these before," she teased to her date and cuddled
closer to him, pleased that he had asked her here.

"I've not seen many of them. They're expensive to make apparently. Pretty
though." His eyes followed the colors and the way they made shapes in the
sky. After a time, he ignored the booms and just focused on the visual.
"That one looks like a flower."

"Hmm...maybe." She looked closer. "They just all look like fireworks
to me," she teased.

He shrugged and continued to watch the lighted shapes in the sky as he
leaned down on the blanket. Once the gather was over, it'd be back to
duties. E'rae was glad for the small break in more ways than one. The
bluerider stretched out. "What else did you do today?"

"Oh, just chased J'zen and Jayonne about. They stole one of my
dresses and were teasing me about how they were going to cut it in the
'style' of Rhosyn's at that last Hatching over at Dolphin Cove. Cheeky boys."

"A shame. I would have looked." He grinned before anticipating a shove
of some kind.

"You don't have to, you get the 'view' for free." She smacked him on
the upper arm and laughed.

Moving so that his head lay in her lap as he looked up at the sky, he
said, "And what a view it is..."

At that she hit him harder. "Men...you're all alike.." she muttered.

"Oh come on. Think about it. If you were looking at a woman that had
long hair that made you want to touch it, who was smart enough to talk
back to you, and who happened to have a nice round arse, what would
you do? Are you going to not look?" His eyebrows raised as his eyes
moved away from the sky and up to her face instead. His hands were
piled on top of each other on his chest and his legs were crossed at the
ankles.

"I was joking you know." She gave him a cheeky grin which showed off
the dimple in her cheek and mock shook her head.

"Aye, and you're a bad liar." Chuckling, he moved to wrestle her to the
ground, completely forgetting about the fireworks.

"Oy! We're in a Hold!" She smacked him hard on the arm like only a
girl raised with several brothers could. Off to one side, two men
leered a bit at her, hoping no doubt that she would be one of those
'slutty' greenriders.

Sighing, he left off and went back to laying on his back. They were male and female, so it was different. Certain behavior was tolerated whereas if she had been a male, it would have been unheard of. Still, he didn't want to embarrass Jaylene so he accepted her discomfort and left off. Looking around, he did notice the looks and gave the men a stern frown while grabbing the hunting knife belted at his waist. That fixed that problem.

"Showed them," Jay teased.

"Smug bastards," he agreed easily before the fireworks ended. He lingered
for a time, not quite ready to get up yet.

"Aren't all Holders?" Jaylene gave him a pointed look before laughing
good naturedly.
