Theyzen looked around the infirmary self-conciously. He was not sick.
Perhaps he would be bothering the Master. But he had spoken to Master Miranek before, and he seemed kind, and more over, happily married with children. Who better to answer his questions. Even so, he had to wipe nervous hands on his trousers to dry them.

"Next!" called out the healer from his consulting room.

"Master Miranek?" Theyzen asked sheepishly as he ducked his head into the room. "There wasn't anyone else waiting, so I thought maybe I could come and talk to you for a minute?"

"Of course Journeyman." Miranek gestured to a seat opposite his desk.
"Take a seat, and tell me what's bothering you."

"Um... well, sir... Its maybe a very silly question." Theyzen cleared his through uncomfortably. This was not exactly something he was good at talking about. "I know that... Well, after the baby was born the Healer told me that Vanora needed to heal for a while both in her body and her chemistry and... When would she be well enough to... uh..."

So at least nothing was wrong with the babe, thought Miranek. "They were right to tell you that. Each woman is different, and it will take time to get over carrying and delivering a baby," he said.

"But... About how long? And how will I know?"

"Ask her," suggested the healer gently. "She'll soon tell you if ahe doesn't feel right." Or rather she should tell him. Helvalla certainly had after the births of their children. "Or perhaps you could suggest she has a checkup with one of the healers here, they'd be able to reassure you both on that score."

Theyzen sat down quietly and the fingers of one hand began rubbing the callouses on the other, not looking up at the older man. "Master Miranek... was your marriage... arranged?"

"No, not it wasn't."

"Well, ours was. When we were married we had met only a couple times in all our lives. We were strangers. It didn't exactly make things...
easy."

"I can imagine, but perhaps this is something that you should talk to her about. Although you have started out as strangers, you are now married, and you have a child. You need to talk to her, become her friend, and one day, maybe love will result."

Theyzen frowned. He wished it was that simple. But He knew Vanora would never _talk_ about that kind of thing. "Talking... takes times and I'm... Well, it's very hard sleeping next to her night after night and _not_ touching her."

"Just try another time then, over dinner perhaps, or go out for a walk,"
suggested the healer.

"I can barely talk to her about my day, Master. How would I even begin to ask her about... wifely duties?"

"Start with your day," advised Miranek. The healer had seen enough marriages like this in his time, and his advice was always the same to the inevitably young couples. "Tell her the things you enjoyed about it, let her tell you what she's done. Then, when the channels of communication are there, you'll find it easier to talk about these things."

"All right," Theyzen sighed. "I'll try it."

"If you still have problems later on, then come back, and we can find some other way to help you and her."

Theysen nodded skeptically. "Yes sir. Thank you."

"Just try it," said Miranek. "Is there anything else I can help you with?"

"No sir, I think that was it." Theyzen stood and gave the healer a small smile. "Sorry to take up your time."

"Not at all."
