Promises

Writers: Len, Emma
Date Posted: 23rd January 2012

Characters: F'neb, Sylvian (NPC)
Description: F'neb has to deal with losing Neath's Flight and with his weyrmate
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 17 of Turn 6

Sylvian knew this day was coming but even so, when her green told her
Neath was Rising and her weyrmate ran out of the drills she couldn't
help the rage she felt inside. She smoldered as she watched the
commotion over in the feeding pens. }:That Neath,:{ her lifemate
complained, }:she always thinks she has to do everything a queen does.
She's so snotty.:{ Kennerth wasn't happy about her weyrmate being
involved in this Flight either.

Sylvian could only nod her head vaguely. She rather liked Neath
herself, she was a beautiful green, but she could see why another
green wouldn't like her. And G'wen...she could see the appeal, having
a bit of a fancy towards him herself. But F'neb was her's! She could only
watch helplessly as Neath launched herself with as many males as could
following behind.

All through the drills she watched the mostly blues--and a few
browns--trail back, worn out by the chase for the green. But Ornigeth
wasn't one of them. Her anxiety only worsened.

Mostly F'neb could have dealt with it, losing a flight wasn't that big a deal.
There were willing partners around for the losing riders, some would
literally go jump in the lake, or others go and get drunk, or even go find
their weyrmates. But this, somehow F'neb wasn't sure how she would react,
would Sylvian understand this; understand that he still felt an urge to find
himself in her right now.

The tall girl glanced over to the Flight rooms. It was close to lunch
and she had promised a friend she would sit with her. Just then a
small crowd of disappointed
men wandered out, which meant the Flight was over.
And...and...was that F'neb walking out as well? With a strangled cry,
she raced over to him.

"Sylvian!" His arms opened, he wanted to pull her into an embrace, have her
take him back to their weyr and deal with this need he felt to be close to
someone, anyone.

"F'neb!" She all but jumped into his arms and held him close. "I was
so afraid...."

"I'm here," was all he could manage as he tried to pull her closer than
normal. "I need you."

"And you have me." She smiled sweetly at him before trying to
disengage herself from his tight grip. "How's a bit of lunch sound?
I'm starving."

"Lunch in bed?"

"Oh, you're so silly! I told Eritria I would have lunch with her. We
can't stand her up, you know how she was after she didn't Impress yet
again. She's feels shy and awkward as it is. If we leave her to sit
on her own she would be mortified." Sylvian looked at F'neb like he
was crazy for asking such a question.

"I, I," F'neb stuttered a little. "Please, I," He looked at her properly,
realising that he was coming slowly back to himself. "Would you please come
and talk to me while I change. I just need someone right now."

"F'neb! You know I can't!" She giggled and shook her head at him.
"You know how she is. Come on , we're late as it is! And you look
fine, there's no need to change." She tugged on his arm.

"Sylvian," there was an odd not in his voice that he may not have noticed
before. "Please," he pulled her close and bent his head to kiss her. "Just
come with me for a few moments, Eritria won't mind a few moments more."

"F'neb!" She tried to pull away. "What's wrong with you? It was
just a Flight."

"A flight Ornigeth didn't win, and I can feel it," not the best explanation
on Pern, but it would have to suffice for now.

Her smile faded and she put her hands on her hips. "Oh, it
was_him_wasn't it? You didn't get one of your little boys yet again!"
Her face reddened in anger and her voice rose. "Well you know what's
happening to him right now, don't you? He's getting the bloody ride
of his life! Some lucky boy is pounding him and it's_not_you!"

"It could have been any green that Ornigeth chased!"

"Yeah...right!" At that she turned around and stormed off.

"Sylvian!" He set off after her. "Please!"

"Go use your hand, it's not like you don't anyways!" She kept marching off.

The hand went out onto her shoulder. "Please let me try and explain."

"This should be good. Go on." She tapped her foot and crossed her
arms over her chest, waiting.

"After any flight he loses, the urge, it's there. And I came to you!"

Sylvian stopped and pondered that one. And the fact that they were
close to the Inner Lake by now. Should she just go in there and then
dump him in? Faranth knew he deserved it.

"I could have found someone else, but I didn't I chose you."

"That's not what M'pell told me."

"Well things have changed now. I love you."

"You told me you loved me_before_you were with him. You don't think I
know how you sneak off to be with some of your boys?"

"Not any more."

"Oh, what, not since you lost G'wen's Flight just a few moments ago?"

"You know flights are different. Ornigeth won't always win yours, and what
will I have to do then?"

"I won't care." She crossed her arms and looked at him like she
wanted nothing more than to throw him in the Inner Lake.

Slowly F'neb digested this. "So it's okay for me to know you're off having a
good time with some other man, but if Ornigeth fails to catch someone and I
come back to you it's not?"

As she knew he_had_been secretly enjoying himself with M'pell once
lately and a friend had told her he had used G'wen that night she had
kicked him out of their weyr, she thought she'd play along with this
assumption and see how he felt. So she nodded.

"That's not fair."

"Who said life was fair?"

"Sylvian, please. Lets talk about this properly, later?"

"Okay..." She eyed him wary.

"I'm not going to let either of us forget, its important."

She just snorted and rolled her eyes at that line.

"Promise me."

"_You_promise_me_" she said with a stern glare.

"I promise."
