Clad in her pajamas, Rhosyn put out the tray of sweeties and the drinks
then made sure Orlaith was settled. This was going to be fun. She had
even found a jar of nail enamel she?d gotten from the chemists. Standing
back from her handiwork, she waited for her guest to arrive.

R'sedel flung open the door with a bit of dramatic flare before striding
in without so much as a knock. "I brought cards and dice, and a very
_naughty_ book."

"Ohhh cards," she grinned. "I raided the kitchens and managed some
things. There's plenty to drink." Her eyes lit up, though. "But first,
just what's in this naughty book hm?"

"Oh, a few pictures... Some for you, some for me... I got it off of a
bluerider friend. We even tried to recreate a few of the images. For
art's sake, of course," he grinned, flopping down on the sofa next to
her and kicking off his boots.

She plopped down beside him. "I hope they aren't all blurry like that
last one. Someone had gotten the stupid thing wet." She picked up the
enamel, showing it to him. "What do you think, is it your color?"

"Dear, any color is my color in the dark." Enamel wasn't his thing,
really. It just seemed to be an extravagant waste. But it pleased her,
so he would amuse her. "And that book was not damaged, it had just been
a poor copy. I would _never_ have brought you a soiled copy of a dirty
book. That's just gross."

"I didn't think it was soiled. Just looked like it had been rained on."
She shrugged and began to look through the pages. Turning it this way and
that, her eyes opened a bit wider. "That can't be...can it?"

"This isn't some mindhealer's test," R'sedel laughed, leaning over to
see what she was talking about. "What?"

"There is no way that sort of flexibility exists. I mean, it'd break
someone's back. I think someone is having dreams." She frowned. "It
can't be pleasant." Rhosyn curled her legs under her, considering.

"I wouldn't know about the pleasant part, men are made a little
differently, but I know I for one could _never_ get in that position."
Imagination was a good thing, but it wasn't worth doing yourself
permanent harm when there were so many wonderful, _safer_ ways
to enjoy yourself.

Once they'd gone through the book, she put it down and picked up the
enamel. "I'll do your toes since they won't see 'em if you want?" That
would give her time to catch up on the latest gossip.

"Sure, but we should wash my feet first. Do you have a foot bath?"
Those always felt _so_ good after a long day!

"No...just the full bath chamber. You can stick em in there and scrub em
real quick though?" She had never thought about a foot bath, though it
was something to think about for the future. "Plenty of wash rags and
towels and soapsand. Shells if you had clean clothes, you could take a
real bath."

"What, alone? You should have thought of that before you painted your
nails!" It wasn't as if his weyr was all that far, but still, what fun
would it be? He began rolling up his pant legs. "I'll just give them a
quick dip."

She hadn't painted her own nails recently, but she didn't mention that
to R'sedel. She didn't want to be in the bath chamber with him and his
dirty feet. "Hurry, I need to tell you what happened!"

He turned to her with excited eyes as he pulled off one sock and then
another. "Something _happened_? How intriguing! I will hurry, I
promise!"

When R'sedel was done washing his dirty feet and Rhosyn had him
positioned so that she could paint his toes, she let it out. "Dolphin
Cove has a new goldrider." Of course the River Bluff Weyrwoman wanted to
know about this creature and was already thinking up ways to find out.

The greenrider laughed. "Really, Rhosyn, you think the whole Weyr
doesn't already know that?" The only thing that spread faster than a
burrowing Thread was gossip about metallics, after all. "Did you meet
her yet?"

"No, I haven't been over there ever since I got mad that R'enh couldn't
come here to give me my birthingday present." Considering her options,
she looked back at him. "His clutch is going to hatch soon though." That
would be her way in.

"Well, you've _got_ to go for that! I mean, you're a Weyrwoman!
There's no way on Pern you wouldn't be invited." And she just better
screw the man's brains out, no matter what that wherry of a Weyrwoman
said!

"I wonder though. G'nir impressed at Dragonsfall and went north. She
impressed at Dragonsfall and went north. Coincidence?" Rhosyn didn't
know when or how many turns they were ahead or behind, so it could
very well be, but it was curious anyway. "Janani impressed at Dragonsfall
too."

"It almost sounds like you're trying to solve a mystery in one of those
crime novels," R'sedel laughed and he leaned in a little closer to inspect her handiwork. "Is it supposed to look like that?"

"Yeah. See how shiny? I like it." She finished up and then let them dry,
putting the enamel aside. "So do you think I should try to outclass Janani at the hatching after what happened at the last one over there or should I just go like normal?"

She needed to ask K'sedel if he was going. Y'gel had taken her to the last
one. J'ren had taken her to Dragonsfall. "Do you know if your dad's
planning on going?"

"I've no idea," he said, waving a hand over his toes to help them dry
faster. "But darling, by the way she's expending all of her energy just
to keep her bronzerider's interest, it's obvious that you _already_
outclass her. Don't rub all of Pern's nose in it. It's not dignified."

"You know, I don't think she had a chance, to be honest. I knew them
both, before." In some ways, Rhosyn felt for Janani but she'd never say
it. It was the way the other goldrider was reacting that she thought was
stupid, especially since there were surely other bronzeriders in the
Weyr.

She reached for one of the sweeties and leaned back. "You have any new
boys these days hm?"

"I've _had_ plenty of new boys, yes," he said with a rather triumphant
grin, reaching for a treat himself. "I don't tend to keep them, though."

"Do tell." Settling in to learn about his recent exploits, Rhosyn
grabbed a glass and chewed the pastry. Comfortable in her pajamas, she
let her hair down as well. As R'sedel spoke, she stretched her toes and
her legs.
