Once More Around the Floor

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 7th December 2011

Characters: Rhosyn, J'ren
Description: J'ren and Rhosyn have a dance together at the feast.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 4 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: N'vanik

The hatching had been a grand event, as always, and J'ren had
thoroughly enjoyed watching it . Hatchings were always interesting and
just neat to watch. It was a new beginning, a new life for dragon and
person, and who could not love something like that? Of course, it
always made him think of his own Impression - and surely he wasn't
alone. By the looks on the faces of many of the riders during the
hatching, they were having similar thoughts.

Of course, all good things come to an end, but this good thing led into
another - a feast! A feast worthy of a hatching. J'ren took up a
glass of wine from a passing drudge and began to work his way lazily
through the crowd. He couldn't help but notice Rhosyn - who wouldn't?
She and her dragon were as much the star of the show as the new
weyrlings and their dragons were. With a smile, the bronzerider
changed his course and aimed for her.

She felt someone come up behind her. For a moment, she thought it might
be N'vanik, but when she turned and saw J'ren, she accepted him.
"Evening Wingsecond," she greeted easily.

"Good evening, Weyrwoman. A splendid hatching - but I expected nothing
less." J'ren gave her a grin before working on some of the wine he had
procured. "I hope you are enjoying your hatching feast!"

"I am. Glad the eggs are no longer my problem to worry about and that
I can fly again." Rhosyn grinned, knowing her wingriders would be
thrilled to see her up in the air with them again.

"I'm sure your lovely gold feels similar." J'ren chuckled - he could
imagine how frustrating it was to be land bound, even if only for a
couple of months. "Dare I ask if I have the privilege of a dance this
evening?"

"Let me check my dance card..." She made a show of pulling a piece of
hide from her sleeve and looking at it this way and that. "Sure, I can
pencil you in. Now or later?"

"How about now?" J'ren laughed, then held out his arm for the
Weyrwoman to take. "And then how about later as well?"

"Depends on how good you do now," she replied saucily. Rhosyn was
certainly feeling herself tonight.

"Well then, I'd best make sure to make an impression?" J'ren's eyes
twinkled as he extended his arm to the goldrider. "Allow me to sweep
you off your feet."

She followed him, as she had a few times before. Rhosyn wasn't as
comfortable with him as N'vanik, but she knew the man and had been
around him enough times not to worry. "Pretty sure we've had plenty of
impressions today, but more are welcome."

"Wonderful Impressions indeed. It was an excellent hatching." J'ren
was accomplished enough at dancing - perhaps not the most accomplished
there, but certainly had more technique than the average person. He
led her easily through the dance, one that wasn't particularly fast,
but not aimlessly slow either. "Though I imagine you're glad it's
done?"

"Definitely. I want to get up in the air again. I'm more comfortable
there." Rhosyn had to admit she liked running a wing.

"And I'm sure the wing will be happy to have you back." J'ren swept
the woman to the side, keeping her out of the way of a couple who
weren't quite so sure on their feet - and weren't really watching where
they were going.

"Some days, others they won't." She grinned. "Can't be nice all the time
though. Not if I'm going to get them better."

"And I'm sure you'll accomplish it." J'ren knew Rhosyn was a hard taskmaster, but he had the sense she had a better head on her shoulders than Zharesti did. The song came to an end and he paused, then gave the Weyrwoman a bow. "I suppose I should allow others a chance. But don't forget, I'm put in for later as well." He stated with a grin.

"Excuse me while I get a drink to get my second wind. Thanks for the
turn around, though. And get some of the food, I need to know how good
it ended up!" She shooed him to the tables before she searched for
someone with some water.
