Jaylene

Jaylene

Suppressing a yawn and placing her klah mug on the desk, Jaylene sat
down to look over her papers before K'sedel came in for the updates
and to go over notes with her and K'reyel. Out of the corner of her
eye new papers sat on the corner. She picked them up and took a look
before remembering that it was about the new guy. From Dragonsfall he
was, a bluerider. Glancing at the time, she figured she would be able
to nip over to his weyr and see how he was doing before her wingleader
had need of her.

**Reanth, can you find the new guy's blue and see what weyr they're
living in?** She hoped his lifemate was on the smaller size. Lately
it seemed they had a rash of their greens getting either pregnant or
injured. A small whippy blue is what they needed.

}:Yalith you mean? He's lovely, they're not too far from here.:{

Jay snorted at that. If Reanth thought the blue was lovely,
he_must_really be a looker. She didn't flirt much, being quite
serious for a green. Downing the rest of her klah, she left the
office and walked until she was in front of the weyr's door. Knocking
politely she waited for an invite to come in.

S'yei cocked his head to the side, a glass of wine perched in his
tanned fingers. He had just about had the glass of wine to his
mouth when he heard the knock. Now S'yei was between a rock
and a hard place. Ruin his wine tasting (of a precious vintage that
had just been sent to him via an old friend) or run the risk of being
rude and not answer the door?

With a sigh, S'yei decided that he'd better worry more about making
a good impression at his new Weyr. **Later, my pet.** He said
mentally to his glass of wine as he set it aside for the moment
and strode to the door. Pulling it open S'yei came face to face
with a woman that he'd never seen before. She was tall, for a
woman, S'yei would admit, and she held herself with the air of
one that was confident in herself.

}:It's Jaylene, Reanth's rider and our wingthird.:{ Yalith supplied
helpfully.

"Good day," S'yei inclined his head to Jaylene, "what brings the
Wingthird to my door?" He smiled.

"Well, I was thinking you may want to join us in the wing this next
Fall day and we need to place where you and your's will fit the best."
She grinned and waved the papers she had in her hand. "You busy?"

S'yei's mind, of course, went to the glass of wine that he'd been just
about to taste, but he shook his head with a friendly smile, "Not at
all. Please come in." The bluerider stepped back from the door, glad
that his weyr was still neat and tidy from where he'd recently
unpacked and placed things into their proper place.

Jaylene glanced about as she walked over to the sofa and sat down. It
had been a long day and she was sure S'yei wouldn't mind. "I see you
managed to get one of the little weyrs with a private bath..smart
move." Leaning back, she ruffled her hair off the back of her neck,
half wishing she'd just cut it all off and be more comfortable. "So
can you give me a quick run down on Yalith? What are his strengths,
weakness, speed, length of flame, that sort of thing. We need to see
where you two might fit best within the wing."

The bluerider wanted to tell her that he'd just gotten lucky on the weyr,
but then she began firing questions at him. At the back of his mind,
S'yei could only think of the glass of wine that was going to waste. At
the forefront, however, he was conscious of making a good impression
on his Wingthird, "Well, as you may have noticed, he's pretty leanly
muscled so he's relatively fast, and can change direction at a moment's
notice. His flame is moderate in length, which is why he often has to
use his speed and agility to his advantage."

"Okay..." Jaylene wrote down some notes before looking through her
charts. "How about we stick you guys in between brown Heanth and a
small bronze named Feranth, who's just come up from the weyrling
ranks. He's good but he could use a bit of cover from a smaller
wingmate until he settles in." She looked up at him. "How's that
sound? And are you going to drink that glass or is it going to
waste?" She gave him a cheeky smile.

"Thank Faranth." S'yei said with relief as he took the glass of wine
and took a grateful sip. He didn't take time to savor it as he normally
would (which would be with his eyes closed, his hands poised in the
air as if to help him expel the words that he would use to describe
the wine), "Yes, that sounds like a suitable spot for Yalith and
myself." He finally managed.

"Good, you looked like you were about to pass out there." She half
wondered if he was going to pour her a glass as well

The man chuckled as he waved a hand at his shelf of wines and other
assorted alcohol, "I'm a vintner by craft, when I'm not tending to
Yalith." S'yei explained before continuing, "Would you care for a
glass?"

"I thought you'd never ask!" Like she would ever say no to a drink?
"So how long did you learn the wine trade then?"

S'yei thought back on it as he grabbed one of his finest vintages off
of the shelf and began to pour the liquid into a nicely rounded glass,
"Well, let's see, I was active in the vintnercraft all the way up
until I was nineteen- which is when I Impressed Yalith." He told
Jaylene as he handed her a glass of wine.

"Glad you did it?" Her eyebrows raised as she took a sip. "Lovely stuff here."

The bluerider smiled pleasantly, "The vintnercraft is my favorite
pastime, but I'm glad that I Impressed Yalith. I actually think I
enjoy it more now that it's not such a priority."

"Now that you don't have to sweat and fret over the grapes?" she
teased, having another friend from the Vitneercraft and having heard
some of the horror stories of grapes being ruined by cold, frost,
weather too hot/too cold, etc. "So how are you settling in? Know
anyone who also transferred from Dragonsfall?"

"I recognize a few faces, but none were close acquaintances." Which
was just fine with S'yei since he was trying this "fresh start" thing.

"Well, as handsome as you are, you'll be beating off our greenriders
soon enough." She chuckled, thinking of some of the more forward boys
around the place.

S'yei took the compliment with a smile, "Can't say that I'll mind that
too much." He certainly wouldn't mind finding a few casual partners
around the Weyr.

Putting down her empty glass she retorted, "you might not mind
now..but give it a few sevendays..." She grinned at him. "Remind me
to introduce you to my brother soon. He rides green Verlith in U'das'
wing. He's a terrible flirt."

This made S'yei laugh, "I look forward to meeting him then. I've been
told I'm pretty decent at flirting myself." He winked.

"Come see us tonight at dinner then." She grinned and stood up. "My
brother and mother are harpers so we're by the stage a lot." she gave
him an applogietic look. "If I don't get my report on your blue back
to K'sedel_before_then he'll have my hide! See you then?"

"I'll see you then." S'yei agreed as he showed his Wingthird out of his weyr.
