Skipping her way into the bathing cavern, Delria's green eyes
twinkling with mischief, she stopped short at the edge of the pool.
She knew he was in here, he always bathed at this time of day and, for
once, he was alone. She knew this because she had watched him come in.
When his dark head surfaced on the other side of the pool, she smiled
and waved. "Hey, G'wen. Mind if I join you?" She asked when she got
closer.

He jumped when she spoke up, as he was sure he had been quite alone.
Turning back to her, he said, "No, come on in. You can tell me all
about the new Candidates and what you guys are up to. Hope you're
making us proud and being horrible to the Weyrlingmasters." He gave
her a teasing look before ducking under the water another time, to
give her some privacy whilst she undressed.

Delria quickly undressed and stepped into the water. She still glanced
around the pool every now and again, her Holdbred ways still lingering
in her mind. The thought of being oogled while undressing by someone
she'd never met made her just a little uncomfortable. When G'wen surfaced
she was happy to fill him in. "Well, we do try ever so hard to give them
a run for their marks. Some of the new Candidates are even getting a hand
in the mischief. Though I'm sure our class could never match _your_ level."

"Well, all our class was into was being horrible to the really
effeminate boys like S'vin, as you know." G'wen rolled his eyes at
that, thinking
back to when N'den and Barren had made life pretty rough for him and
his friends. "There's a few boys now on blue that would like to make
N'den pay for what he did...but they'd be no better than he was, at
that time, you know? I_do_really worry for him when his green Rises.
Let's just hope an older rider who's kind catches her."

"Mmm, yes let's hope. But you, no you'll be fine when Neath goes
up. Anything happens to you and you know whoever it was will be
hearing about it the next morning. Feeling it more likely. Guy
like you has loads of friends in high places and why wouldn't you?
You're a great guy." Delria had to stop herself. She took a moment to
mentally kick herself. **Being obvious much? Come on.**

G'wen came up beside her, giving her an odd look. "Why are you trying
to blow smoke up my arse?" With that great--and completely
untrue--statement she_must_be wanting something. He fixed her with
his dark gaze.

Delria put on a face of complete innocence. "What are you talking
about, G'wen? It's all true and if you don't think so then that's
up to you." She folded her arms and looked away from him. "I'm
shocked you would think I was trying to pull anything on you. You
have to give me more credit than that. What could I possibly want?"
She hoped it was enough to save her and to drive her point offered
him a friendly smile.

"My thought exactly. What_do_you want?" He wasn't fooled by her
speech and gave her a playful dunk under the water. "Come on girl, I
may have been born in the dark...but it wasn't yesterday."

After clearing her eyes and nose from the sudden dunking, Delria
sighed. She didn't want to come clean but she had been unconvincing.
"Fine, you've got me," she said in a hushed tone. "Shells, I'm a
terrible liar. I was wondering, well rather Catrien and I were
wondering, if you could introduce us to Teseada?"

"Why?" His guard went right up with the mention of the gold rider.
He knew what a lot of Cat's scheme's entailed and the last thing he
was going to allow was for the girls to take advantage of Teseada.

In a moment of brilliance, Delria had a new plan. Why give everything
away all at once. This time she tread more carefully. "It's nothing serious,
G'wen. We just thought that maybe talking to someone closer to our age
about being a woman dragonrider would be beneficial. Classes are getting
tiresome and something different would be nice. Besides, I've heard
all sorts of pleasant things about the woman and I thought since you knew
her it would be easy to get to introduced."

"Well, how about talking to Demalia? Or Aileyan? They're both 19 as
well, and can give you two a better idea as they both ride
greens..which I do believe is the only colour on offer right now on
the Sands." He watched her face closely for any signs of what she
was up to. From Teseada's background, he couldn't help but be very
protective of her.

She rolled her eyes at the boy, "Well, yeah but that's just it. They're
greenriders and happy to be such but they just don't have drive. What
if I want to become more than a greenrider, say maybe a Wingthird someday?
I'd need some direction on how to get there wouldn't I? Especially if I
didn't want to be near death before I earned the rank. As a goldrider, Teseada
has to be pretty ambitious. I mean she might have to lead the Weyr someday."

At the mention of lack of drive from the two greenriders, G'wen
threatened to start laughing. "How do you_know_they lack ambition?
And how about you just get a green dragon before you plan on taking
over the Weyr?"

She narrowed her green eyes at him. Wagging her finger, "You just watch, G'wen.
I'll Impress, I'm sure of it." She lightened her expression before continuing.
"First of all you have to have ambition of sorts I would imagine to Impress
gold. Secondly, Demalia and Aileyan's names don't get dropped around the Weyr
like Teseada's does. That tells me they must not be doing much." Delria really
was trying here. Catrien would never let her live it down otherwise. It was only
G'wen, she should be able to work _G'wen_ over right?

"Well, Demalia and Aileyan's names might not get dropped as much as
Tes'_because_they are green riders and she's on gold." He couldn't
believe he had to point this little fact out to her. "Why don't you
ask me? How'd you know I don't have wingthird ambitions as well?"

At this, Delria rolled her eyes and put her hand in her face. After a few head
shakes she looked at G'wen. "I thought that would've been obvious. You're not
a woman, G'wen, in case you hadn't noticed. And as for your other point, that's
void too. Kenza gets talked about. She's a Wingthird, a greenrider,
_and_ a woman. Only problem there is she's not my age. That and, from
what I've heard, isn't
terribly friendly or approachable." This was taking entirely too long
in the Candidate's opinion. She was about ready to just give up and
Cat could just deal.

At that G'wen did laugh. "Yeah, I_know_I'm not a woman, but I thought
we were talking about wingthird sort of issues, not stuff like 'I'm on
my period!' or 'that boy likes me!', right? So why can't I help you?"
Teasing Delria was fun, he mused to himself. He couldn't dispute
anything about Kenza, as she had him nearly crapping his trousers the
one time he met her.

"G'wen," she whined. "It's just not the same, ok? I don't know how else
to explain it. What's so wrong with wanting to meet and have a one on one
type chat with a goldrider, a potential Weyrwoman of this Weyr and possibly
our ultimate superior?" This was her last attempt before she was getting up
and leaving the baths. She was starting to get wrinkly and hungry and was
just about fed up with G'wen's games.

"There's nothing wrong...as long as you just come out with what you
and Cat are planning. And don't tell me you aren't. I grew up with
Cat, I know the smell of one of her plots a mile away." He sighed,
just wishing she'd stop this cat and mouse game and just say what she
wanted. Not that teasing her wasn't fun, but time was ticking on and
he wanted out of this pool before some slimy bluerider came in to
harass him.

Delria raised herself out of the pool. After grabbing a towel to wrap
herself in, she sat on a bench and crossed her arms in a huff. Once
G'wen had settled next to her she explained everything. "Ok, you win,"
she began and then muttered under her breath, "Can't believe this."
Looking into his dark eyes hopefully conveying her sincerity she continued.
"Cat and I were hoping to meet with Teseada to get in good with her gold.
Possibly even work our way into a meeting with the eggs. We figured it
would be good for our chances at actually Impressing, especially Catrien.
She's about sick of Standing. I know it's low but she's desperate and I
wouldn't mind trying to better my odds either. That and it would be nice
to meet Teseada. She sounds nice."

"Well, why didn't you just say so in the first place?" G'wen flopped
a wet arm around her shoulders. "Of course I'll talk to Teseada and
see if she's up for a meeting with you guys." He knew Cat's history
as well and felt desperately bad for his childhood friend. "But you
need to remember that Tes doesn't get the chance to have many friends,
so please, don't do this_just_as a way of taking advantage, only do it
if you really do want to try and befriend her, okay?" He gave her a
cheeky grin. "And by the way, you're a lousily liar!"

Delria blushed lightly, embarrassed for having thought that she would
need to be anything but upfront with her friend. "Thanks, G'wen. That'd
be great. Sorry I led you on like that. Just I wasn't sure how you'd
react and this is sort of important to us. Do me a favor though would
you? Don't tell Cat how this happened. Tell her I was convincing and
that this took no time at all." She wanted Catrien to be able to rely
on her. Telling her that she had broke the truth to G'wen would not be
the best way to achieve that.

"Don't worry, I won't say a thing. Just next time...tell the truth?"
He patted her shoulder. "Okay, let's get out of there before some
troll finds us!"
