It had been some time and the brownrider had noticed a change in
T'bel's behavior. He hoped it was for good and that it would continue
to improve. So, after drills, he found himself catching up with the
other rider. "Good job there, T'bel."

"Ah, thanks for that, P'nal." The small greenrider patted his Fanth
on the shoulder. "She's been keeping me on the straight and narrow,"
he teased.

"Women are good for that usually," he nodded, looking at the green
for signs of overexertion out of habit. She looked healthy and well cared
for. "And I'm glad to see everything seems to be working out."

"Yeah..." Not for the first time did T'bel regret losing P'nal as a friend.

"Has Fanth had her annual checkup?" He forgot whether or not that box
had been checked in the Records. It was important.

"Of course! You'd think I'd neglect my Fanth?" The look T'bel gave
him was of disbelief. Like he'd ever be that sort of rider! Fanth
was his world.

"No, I was just curious. I can't remember if it was time yet." He scratched
his chin. Jodeth had to do that, but he didn't have to worry about all those
female issues.

"Two months gone now, it was."

"Mmm...and when is she due to rise next?" That was a loaded question, but
most greenriders had an idea.

"If Jodeth had any interest, it's too late. She just rose last month." He cast
his eyes down, at that. It hadn't been a very happy Flight, for him.

"Well it only takes six sevendays. So we've got another coming around." His
brows rose, feeling a niggling interest in the conversation coming from his
brown.

"Don't remind me," the smaller man mumbled. Flights weren't exactly
his favorite activity. And with him and G'waren fighting all the
time, he was doubting that Manarth would get Fanth.

"What's wrong?" Obviously, T'bel was having some sort of problem.

"Not all us green boys like being rodgered senseless, thank you very
much." He'd never been into being roughed up. Looking down and
kicking the dirt, he added in a mumble, "my weyrmate and I aren't
getting along too well right now."

"Do you want to talk about it?" He would respect T'bel's privacy if he
wanted, but P'nal knew he might need someone to talk to.

T'bel shrugged his shoulders. "Well, G'waren's been a bit...odd...since
his kid Impressed a green anyways. And then he and Manarth got
threadscored and weren't able to catch Fanth when she flew. And..I
dunno..he's just been really cross and short tempered ever since. I
think I know his problem, but then again, maybe I don't." He looked
up at P'nal and shrugged his shoulders again. "Maybe when he goes
back to his wing, U'kaiah can straighten him out." Shards knew someone
had to.

"It can't have been the first time something like that has happened though.
What happened before when you had a flight and he was down?" They
had so many turns together that the odds were someone had been hurt.

"To be honest, it_is_the first time this has happened." T'bel sighed
and leaned against Fanth. She crooned and nuzzled him, not understanding
his unhappiness.

"Have you spoken to someone else who has been in that situation, to find
out what helped them?" Personally, P'nal was a man of Weyrlife-riders knew
that the dragons chose and they had to abide by it.

T'bel shook his head no. Talking to others was a tad hard when your
weyrmate was so closed up about his own private life and what happened
in it.

"I tell you what...Have Fanth bespeak Carntoth. I'm absolutely sure her rider
could give you some pointers because I know Jodeth caught her a couple times."
That one was weyrmated to a blue if he remembered right.

T'bel sighed and nodded, wondering why P'nel was being nice to him
after the last time they had talked.

"I'll leave you be for now, but give me an update. I don't want you flying when
you're so upset and distracted if we can help it." He gave T'bel a quick grab on
the shoulder before he headed off to stow his gear and get a bath.
