Felyna

Benani led the way into her private Solar. Today the sun was
cooperating by sending streams of light through the richly appointed
room. She had tea waiting for them on the sideboard with a lovely
selection of pastries and savory pies.

"I'm so glad you could come along on this trip."

Felyna went happily along with Benani, glad to see her wish fulfilled
about visiting with her fellow Lady Holder. It had been a great
visit so far, and she was pleased to see Corofel being fostered in a
place that was so nice to visit. He would be happy here.

She glanced at the array of goodies, and grinned. "Oh delightful,
Lady Holder. More delicious food in here, where our husbands cannot
get their greedy hands in it." She joined Benani and relaxed visibly.
There was something comfortable about sitting with just a woman, and
not have to have the Lady Holder mask on her face, even though it was
a common one for her, and natural as breathing.

"I"m glad I could come too. We haven't been able to visit much
lately. How were the Turnover celebrations here, Benani?"

She smiled "They were lovely, we even invited the Weyrleaders. I think
Zatrhis danced with every holders wife and daughter." She grinned. "Of
course it wasn't the same without my father."

Felyna nodded in understanding. "I expect it was not, but I am glad
to hear you enjoyed yourself. I definitely had a very enjoyable
turnover, as my first celebration as the Lady Holder at Emerald
Falls." And some other things she only mentioned in her knowing smile
and sparkling eyes. She and her husband had spent a _very_ enjoyable
night indeed.

"So tell me what has been going on here, hmm?"

"It was also our first as Lord and Lady." Benani smiled. "So I
probably over did it a little. There was a lot of food to give away to
the cots when we were done." Felyna looked decidedly happier than she
had the last time she'd seen her.

"But that's not the best news." Her smile grew even broader. "We got
our own Turn Over present. I'm pregnant."

Felyna gasped in delighted shock and smiled, happy for Benani. Even
at the same time she wished her own womb would quicken, she could
find happiness for another woman. "That is fantastic, Benani! It is
our duty to provide our husbands with heirs, but much nicer when we
enjoy the work, and the children are the best gift for simply doing
what we were meant to do. How far along, my friend?" Felyna's smile
was warm and bright. "We must buy some new things for the baby to
come and for the mother-to-be." She was always ready to spend a few
of her husband's marks.

Benani nodded in complete agreement with Felyna. Their duty was clear
and she was so very happy to know she was making her contribution. She
was quite gratified by Felyna's obvious delight at her good fortune
and happy to accept her offer. "I think that would be wonderful," she
said. "Though I won't be doing much traveling at all if Zathris has
his way. He's very protective." She grinned. "I now have _another_
guard following me around." Not that she really minded her husband's
concerns, he had every reason to feel the way he did.

Felyna's smile flickered a little. She wondered if Corowal would be
that protective of _her_ if she became pregnant. Somehow, she
doubted it. After all, he had five children of his own already. Any
child of hers would be... extra...

Some of her emotion showed briefly on her face before she gained
control of it, but after a moment she stopped trying to hide her
feelings. "I'm so very glad you and your husband are so much in
love, Benani. I never thought to marry for love. And so I did not."
Now she smiled, sure she could be herself for a moment with her
fellow Lady Holder. "But it does not stop me from being happy for
you, my dear. I am sure Zathris can be....ahh.... persuaded... to
let us take a small trip while you are yet not too far along." Her
eyes gleamed for a moment with the sureness that only women who know
how to deal with their men show.

Benani reached out to her fellow Lady Holder. It was rare to have time
alone with someone of equal rank. She'd missed that more than she knew
since Zathris' election. "Thank you," she said. "I hope you are happy
at least with your choice, but I don't wish to pry. I only want to
wish you happy." Then she smiled. "I would love to try and persuade
him," she responded with a similar gleam.

Felyna's grin was positively evil. "Oh Benani... I would love for you
to pry. I would tell you some stories...." Her eyes were quite
wicked, but behind that front there was some well-hidden pain. She,
herself, didn't even realize it was there. "But today is not about
me, love. Today is about _you_. You and your lovely heir-to-be."
She squeezed Benani's hands warmly, then got up to hug her. She
decided that they would have to talk more....and often....Most
definitely.
