An Advice

Date Posted: 6th May 2011

Characters: U'das, Rhosyn
Description: Rhosyn asks U'das for advice
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 22 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: U'fouinn, N'vanik

Realizing that her frustration was building and all the running in the world
couldn't stop it, she decided to have a chat with a certain Wingleader who
always seemed to have good advice and who didn't judge her. Besides, U'das
kept his mouth shut, which was important.

Rhosyn tracked him down with Orlaith's help. "U'das, you have time for some
water and talk?"
If he didn't, she could wait, which she signalled so he'd know.

"I always have time for a goldrider," U'das replied with a friendly smile
and gestured for her to come close. He had found a nice, shaded spot on
the beach, a bit farther away from the Weyr. In his lap, he had a hide
spread on a wooden slab and drawing equipment was spread around him on a
blanket.

She walked up and took a seat, seeing what he was doing. "So, how are you?"

"Just fine," he replied and took off his reading glasses.

"Good." She listened to the rush of the waves for a bit before broaching the
subject. "Can I ask you something?"

"Of course," U'das gave her a curious look.

"Have you ever done a long distance relationship?" As dragonriders, distance
wasn't the same since they could between anywhere, but Rhosyn didn't mean
that.

"Not really, no. There was U'fouinn's mother, but it wasn't a real
relationship, since there was no feelings between us. Just the mating
flight he was sired in and attempt to stay in touch," U'das replied with a
slight shrug.

"Hmmm well...I've found myself in a situation. Basically, he's stuck
somewhere else and obviously I can't leave here. And it's not the same as
having someone close." **Where I can watch him** popped into her mind.

"That happens," U'das replied. "I was weyrmated to the same woman for thirty
Turns, give or take a few. We Impressed from the same clutch and lived at
the same Weyr the whole time."

"Wow..." She sighed. "Well do you think then, that there's no point. Should
I just try to move on or should I wait? I mean, his situation could change
at some point."

"Up to you, but I would try waiting and seeing how the situation develops.
Maybe after a while you realize you're not right for each other. Or you
find out you can't stand to be apart any longer," U'das advised as well as
he could, not knowing who she was talking about. Oh, he had heard rumors,
but he had learned to be cautious with them.

"So basically, just wait and see eh?" She stewed on that, thinking it would
mean no change.
Rhosyn was not the most patient sort.

"That's my advice. You're welcome to take it or disregard it as you see
fit," U'das said with a shrug of his shoulders.

"I was thinking you were going to say that." She looked at his picture, then
played with the sand. "Do you like being a father?"

"Yes, I do. And I like to think I was a good father for most of my children,
" U'das replied, wincing a bit when thinking of U'fouinn. Now, he just
didn't get things to work right with him. After more than three Turns in
the same Weyr, he still felt like he was trying to talk to the Red Star.

"How many do you have?" It was casual conversation. Rhosyn didn't see
herself as a mother.

"Four, at least that I'm aware of," U'das replied. "And three of them are
dragonriders."
He was obviously proud of that fact.

"How many are here?" She wanted to make sure.

"Four: U'sel, Seluda, Seludasjan and U'fouinn," U'das listed out.

"Mmmm. You don't talk to him much, do you?" She didn't know the young rider
well, but she noticed things sometimes.

"No, we don't," the bronzerider did look embarrassed.

"May I ask why?" It didn't do to have an unhappy Wingleader and if Rhosyn
could quietly exert her influence for a reunion to help that, then so be it.

"We just don't seem to understand each other," U'das said.

"How so?" She was becoming more curious.

"We just don't. There was a time we seemed to be getting closer, but then
Zack got a wing-scoring and my attention was in helping him to recover,
and we drifted apart again."

"Well if something could be done about it, would you be amenable?" It was
an offhand comment, but Rhosyn was thinking.

"Sure. He is my son, no matter what," U'das replied.

"Mmmm well then, I'll go and leave you alone but thanks for the chat." She
gave him a pat on the shoulder and got up, brushing herself off.

"Anytime, Rhosyn," the bronzerider grinned.
