Characters: J'klin, Coretta
Description: J'klin finds the two things that he relies on for comfort - alcohol and women.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 17 of Turn 6
Notes: Immediately follows "Behaving Himself"
Mentioned: Roana, S'bryn
J'klin stormed out of the River Bluff Dining Caverns, painfully aware
of the fact that Roana hadn't decided to follow him. Nimyth was
already waiting for him in the weyrbowl, his riding straps held in one
of his front talons. J'klin had to thank his dragon for having the
good sense to know that they were leaving the Weyr for a while.
}:Are you alright?:{ Nimyth asked as J'klin quickly put his riding straps on.
**No,** J'klin responded simply, giving him the image for a nearby
tavern as he mounted.
}:Roana doesn't want you going to those places...:{ Nimyth chided.
**Yeah, well, Roana doesn't want me either, so no big loss, eh?** He
said. The normally oppressive cold of /between/ was refreshing to
J'klin, and he almost regretted it when they emerged above the tavern.
Landing quickly, J'klin entered the building. Unlike some taverns,
this was a relatively nice establishment, frequented more by
dragonriders than by less reputable characters. A serving girl lead
him to a table in the back, and procured him a shot of liquor before
he even had a chance to act. "I've seen that look in your eyes before,
J'klin. I know what you want," she said.
J'klin nodded politely at her before she departed, but cringed once
she was out of range. **It's pretty sad when the servers at the tavern
know you by name, and by beverage of choice,** J'klin thought snidely.
He tried not to think about Roana. About how hurt he was, or how upset
she'd be if she had any clue where he was right now. **Don't you dare
tell Phiralith,** he told Nimyth.
}:Alright...:{ Nimyth responded, his tone indicating that he wasn't
happy with the command, but would do it anyway.
A few drinks later, the serving girl from before, who J'klin
remembered was named Coretta, was sitting at J'klin's table, her shift
over. "So what brings you back, love, it's been months since I've seen
you here?"
J'klin shook his head. "The typical, girl troubles," he said, sighing
heavily. "Just once in my life, I'd like to meet a woman who isn't
going to bed another man the first time I turn my back."
"Another one cheated on you?" Coretta asked. "I thought you Weyr-types
had looser standards regarding your love lives?"
"This one hasn't cheated on me, at lest not that I know of. But she
was supposed to meet me for lunch, and this bronzerider was at her
table, holding her hand. Why in Faranth's name would she do something
like that if she didn't want me to see it? And yes, a lot of us _do_
have looser standards, but many of us only condone sleeping with
someone else when there is a mating flight involved," J'klin
explained.
Coretta nodded, "I see. Did you talk to her yet? Get her side of the story?"
J'klin shook his head, "No, I was too upset. For months I've been
behaving - avoiding liquor, not pushing her too much, making sure I
was concerned for her happiness, and this is what I get for my effort?
If it was meant as some sort of joke or test, she should have stopped
me before I left. And I've not done a single thing wrong the entire
time we've been together, so why would she test me?" Frustrated, he
chugged the remainder of his drink quickly.
"Sharding women, why couldn't I have Impressed blue?" J'klin lamented.
}:Because you don't like men?:{ Nimyth suggested. }:Besides, I'm the
dragon for you.:{ Nimyth knew how his rider got when he'd been
drinking, and no longer got offended by his ridiculous thoughts.
Coretta laughed, placing one of her hands over his. "Do you need me to
remind you that you don't like men?" She said, her voice low and
seductive.
J'klin's gaze focused on her hands, lightly caressing his. His eyes
widened. While he was angry with Roana, was he really angry enough to
jeopardize their already tenuous relationship? He twined his fingers
with Coretta's.
They sat there, talking and relating for several candlemarks, until
Coretta got up the courage to move to the other side of the table, and
seat herself on J'klin's lap. J'klin was drunk, but he knew that what
was happening was wrong.
J'klin pushed the girl off of his lap, into a disgraceful heap on the
floor. Regardless of what he happened or how upset he was with Roana,
she was the only one he wanted, and he knew what he had to do.
