I'm Gonna Kill 'Er

Writers: Eimi, Yvonne
Date Posted: 7th December 2005

Characters: K'far, Harki, Nineba
Description: Nineba interrupts K'far's attempt at picking up Harki, with disasterous results
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 14 of Turn 3

It was too cold outside to bathe beneath the sky, but luckily for everyone Dragonsfall had an indoor lake for the dragons when the temperature dropped. It wasn't always _that_ warm, but it sure beat frostbite. Cerillith spread her wings and splashed her rider with her tail, and Harki pushed ineffectually at her side. "Yeah, yeah, you great lump. Go play but come back soon. My fingers are wrinkly and I'm cold!"

}:I will!:{ the green said happily, and headed off to join a small group of greens who were swimming in circles near the middle of the lake. Her rider waded to shore and wrapped herself in a blanket. She was shivering as she began to paw through the small pack she'd brought down from her weyr, and then cursing as she realized that she'd forgotten her dragon's oil. There was no one else nearby that she particularly wanted to talk to, save for a brownrider she hadn't seen before. Summoning up a winsome smile, she strolled barefoot over to where he was and cleared her throat. "Excuse me?"

"Yes?" K'far turned his head with a friendly smile towards the greenrider.

"I was wondering... I left my oil back at my weyr. Could I use some of yours?"

"Well, I don't know," K'far said as he got himself off the sand. "I don't share my oil with just anyone. I mean, what if you don't give it back? How do I know I can trust you?"

The greenrider arched an eyebrow and tried to hide a smile. "You don't. But why wouldn't you trust a wet, shivering greenrider?"

"How do I _know_ you're a greenrider, huh?" he asked, eyeing her suspiciously.

"Well..." Harki let her blanket slip a little and crossed the distance between them. There was a spark of mischief in her eyes, and if he wasn't _saying_ no... "The logical thing to do would be to ask your dragon who I belong to. Or I could always do this." She snaked a hand around his neck and pulled him down so that she could kiss him.
When she let him come up for air she was grinning devillishly.
"Greenriders do it best."

"How do I know you're not a _gold_rider?" he asked, his eyebrows raised in surprise and appreciation.

"Didn't you hear a _word_ that I said?" Harki swatted him playfully on his chest. "_Green_riders, not goldriders. Green! Now will you lend me some of that oil or not?"

K'far shook his head, but grinned down at her. "I'm sorry, that first one caught me a little off guard so I couldn't form a very solid opinion. I think I will need one more kiss to make sure really are who you claim you are."

"And now you're taking shameless advantage of me. Good thing I don't mind," she said, her voice going a little husky as she pressed herself against him and kissed him a second time. His beard was scratchy, but in a pleasant way that made her wonder what it would feel like against the rest of her.

"_K'far_!" He pulled back, instantly recognizing that voice. "Shard it all," he growled. Where was she? His eyes darted around until he found her.
"Nineba... I'm gonna kill 'er. I swear, one of these days I'm gonna kill 'er!"

"Who?" Harki turned to see a brown haired woman stomping toward them, her face flushed and her eyes glittering in anger.

"Get your hands off of him!" Nineba barked, and Harki glanced back at the man she'd been kissing a moment before. He didn't look happy to see her. Nineba stamped her feet. "Whore!"

Harki crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "I'm sorry. Who are you again?"

"I'm his _weyrmate_! He loves me." Nineba hissed. "Get away from him!"

No curse word on Pern could satisfy the feelings he wanted to express to her at that moment. He settled for a frustrated roar to the sky. "Nineba! What are you _doing here_! I am _not_ your weyrmate! I do _not_ love you! Why won't you just _sharding get that_!!!"

"Some whore flaunting her ugly naked body makes you forget, but _I_
don't. K'far, leave her alone!" Nineba pleaded. She extended her hands out toward him.

"Ugly?" A wicked smile crept across the greenrider's face as she let go of the blanket she'd wrapped around her shoulders. It pooled at her feet as the cold air kissed her bare skin. "So sorry, does this offend you? Does it make you mad that he finds me more attractive than a fat, shrill wherry like you?"

Nineba shreiked and lunged at Harki with her fingers curled into claws. Harki dodged Nineba's first wild swipe, but Nineba's right palm connected solidly with her cheek and the sound of the slap reverberated across the weyrlake. Nineba looked surprised, but was more surprised when Harki's fist came out of no where and connected solidly with her nose. Her head snapped back and she saw stars. Harki stepped back and shook out her fist. "You sure you're not weyrmated?! She's completely nuts."

K'far stood in stunned silence looking between one woman and then the other. He was starting to wonder if they weren't _both_ nuts.
Although, he kind of like Harki's way of being nuts a bit more. Still a twinge of guilt filled him. "Nineba, are you... all right?"

Nineba put a hand to her face and began to wail when it came away bloody as Harki gave him an incredulous look. "I thought you said you wanted to kill her, and now you ask _her_ if she's all right, after she insults and attacks _me_?"

"I think you can protect yourself," K'far muttered. He picked up his shirt and held it to her nose. "Tilt your head back, Nineba, and stop the bleeding." Shards, how did he get into a sharding _comforting_ that woman! He made sure not to let his tone be _too_
gentle with her just in case she got any ideas. Turning back to the greenrider he muttered. "Sorry about all this. She's... confused...
about things sometimes."

Harki picked up her blanket and wrapped it tightly around her shoulders. Nineba was clutching at K'far's arms and crying helplessly. Confused. "I'll bet."

He gave her an apologetic shrug. "The um... oil... is under the brushes there."

"Thanks," she said dryly. As she was fetching it and Nineba's sobs echoed in the background, accompanied by the soft murmur of K'far's voice, she contemplated not returning it. It would serve him right.
