Description: More plans for Turn Over at Amber Hills
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 13, day 18 of Turn 5
Meeting followed meeting as the plans came together and Benani was
expecting the headwoman at any moment. She rose from her desk and
crossed to her small side table for a fresh cup of tea.
Zelanka knocked before entering her office. "Sorry I'm late, Benani.
Some days I just can't walk along the corridor without dozen of people
stopping me to ask questions!" her tone was exasperated.
"It just proves how much we all still need you around here Zelanka."
she chuckled. "we couldn't do it without you." She went back to her
desk with the tea and sat down. "Would you like some tea?"
"Yes, please," Zelanka replied with a smile. "So, what's on schedule today?"
Benani picked up another cup and poured for the headwoman then handed
it to her. Placing the pot back on the tray she went on. "Well, we
need these invitations sent out to the nearby holders and the Weyr."
She thought back to her recent conversation with Shadux and sighed.
Zelanka nodded. "I shall contact the message runners. We could ask the
watchrider to take the invitation to the Weyr," she suggested. She
inhaled the fragnant steam rising from the cup.
"Thank you," she said with a smile. "I'm sure Master Petriv can have
some beasts put by just in case though the riders normally feed their
dragons before coming to an event like this."
"I'm sure he can," she nodded. "And he won't be stint with it either."
She knew that some beastholders sent their worst out to the weyr,
while Petriv was proud of the fact that their tithe was from the best
stock.
"Thank you." she said. "Do you have any ideas for what you'd like to
do with decorating the hall this Turn Over?"
"Perhaps we should have some theme?" Zelanka said thoughtfully. "Like
new life or flowers or the colour amber."
"Oh I like that one," she said. "The color amber. Don't I remember
something similar from when I was a child?" she asked.
"Yes, I think it was for your father's birthday," Zelanka replied.
"Oh yes" she smiled. "Do we still have those table covers stored or
should we have some made up? Oh and some black and blue runners."
"I have to check. Not much gets thrown away though," Zelanka said and
made a note for herself.
She went though another few decorations for the tables and garlands
around the main hall. "I've already selected several wines. Do you
have any particular dishes we serve traditionally?"
"Smoked river fish, if it's available and salads made of summer's
first greens," Zelanka didn't even pause to think.
"Oh, that's excellent thinking." She said and then it occurred to her.
"Do you remember that dish that father always loved? It just wouldn't
be Turn Over for me without it. Could we make sure that is also on the
menu?"
"I sure do," Zelanka replied. ** Shards, if you only knew how well!**
She fought the all too familar feeling of loss. No time to get misty
eyed now.
She smiled at the headwoman. "I don't know what I'd do without you
Zelanka." she said warmly.
"I hope we never have to find out," Zelanka replied with fond smile.
She had always liked of all Benaroy's children.
"I'll second that!" Benani said with a grin.
