Teseada

Teseada

The nap with Neath had done nothing for G'wen. He still felt like a queen dragon had trampled him. But S'vin had nudged him awake after just an candlemark after taking leave of E'naer and he didn't want to let anyone down. His celebratory meal untouched in front of him, he sat and tried to listen to T'bel's and S'vin's excited words. He blinked at the newly re-named S'vin, still a bit bemused that he had impressed blue, and not green.

"Congratulations," Teseada gave the new Weyrling class a warm smile. "I'm
sure you and your new life mates will do Pern and Dragonsfall proud."

G'wen tried to take in his friend's words, but they sounded like they were coming through a tunnel. Looking at his plate, he spotted a pastry that looked like one of Cardella's and took a big bite out of it, hoping the sugar would wake him up a bit. And besides, this would be the last pastry from her that the Weyr would be getting, so he should eat it.

"Might I ask her name, and your new name Galwen?" Teseada knew that was the last time he'd be called that.

"Uh...it's G'wen," he said, smiling at the meantion of his old name. That was the only downer about today. He rather liked his old name better than G'wen. "And she's Neath." He_was_thankful for her name choice though. One of his friends had impressed a bronze with a name that would take_ages_to say fully. And the little dragonet had the attitude to match the name, much to his painfully shy lifemate's horror. G'wen chuckled a bit, thinking of poor short and slightly fat M'can.

"G'wen," she repeated. "My duty to your Neath. Maybe I could meet her when she's awake?"

"Yeah, no problem." He wondered why she was being so formal. "Have you seen F'neb about?"

"He's over there," she said with a glance to her left. "And now the
Weyrwoman has moved away so I can relax a little, I don't know her very well yet, so I'd rather keep things proper until I know her boundaries."

"Ah, okay." That made sense. He turned his head to see where she had
pointed, adding, "sometimes it's a right pain being a weyrwoman, eh?"
Glancing down at his food, he felt that if he had to look at it anymore, he might just throw up, he was so mentally tired from today. "If you want, I can take you over to see Neath now. It'd be good to get away from this crowd and make sure she's okay." Even though his mental link to the big green told him she was fast asleep, he still wanted the physical resurance that she was alright.

"I'd like that, but it looks like someone else is wanting to have a quick
word first."

"If you don't mind?" F'neb said to both of them.

G'wen did wake up when he saw his friend's face. He jumped up to hug him, stating, "I was wondering where you were! Hullo!"

F'neb kept the hug brief, and friendly, knowing that it would be the last
for a while. "I knew you had it in you," he said. "You're a dragonrider
now."

"Yeah, weird, eh? And this one here, getting a blue!" G'wen nudged at
S'vin, grinning. The new blue rider had been touted as a certain greenrider for some time now.

"They know what they are looking for in a rider," F'neb said. "And that blue must have seen something in you he liked S'vin."

S'vin's face lit up just at the mention of his lifemate. For all his
sundreams of green dragons, he wouldn't give up his beautiful Kadeth for any of them. He jumped up to give his fellow bluerider a hug whilst G'wen leaned against Teseada's shoulder affectionately.

F'neb returned S'vin's hug, and whispered in his ear. "You know, girls can be fun too. You'll find out when he chases."

Teseada put an arm around her friend, "I know you'll do well in training," she told G'wen.

"I dunno...I needed E'naer to help me not let Neath swallow all her food
whole!" He grimaced, thinking about that just a few candlemarks ago.

"That was the surprise of Impression," she told him. "But you likely won't do it again, you'll both learn."

"She's a bit bossy, my Neath. I hope she learns."

"I bet she will."

"Which brings me back to my old question...do you guys want to see her?
Onnyth can come too!"

"Ah, I can show off my Kadeth too!" S'vin beamed at the small group.

"We better make it quick though, or else E'naer will have our guts for
garters!" F'neb said.

"Hey, don't give me any bad mental pictures, please!" G'wen snorted.
Whilst he shook his head, S'vin led the small group back to the weyrling
barracks. When he had seen his collapsed friend and the awkward looking Neath curled up together on a bed a few candlemarks ago, he had been quick to take the empty bed and wallow beside their's.

As they came into the darkened room, they could see most of the new
dragonets sleeping. Kadeth's sky blue hide glowed in the light, and the
delicate little blue slept curled up in a neat ball, in his wallow. Neath, on the other hand, was sprawled across G'wen's bed, with one over large foot hanging off the edge. She had fallen asleep before G'wen had been able to bath her, and whilst he had done his best to clean and oil her, after he had woken, G'wen thought she still looked woefully dull next to Kadeth.

"So tiny," Teseada said softly. "Yet beautiful."

"Which one," G'wen teased her, still looking from one dragonet to the other, comparing the two. Kadeth was easily one of the smallest of this hatching, whilst Neath was quite clearly going to be a big green, even at this early stage. She had a more unfinished and rawboned look to her then the delicate beauty of the blue. And her feet and head were huge, whilst Kadeth's head had an almost refined look like that of a race runner. But he was proud of her rich, brocade colour, which reminded him a bit of a well done gitar or violin varnish, the sort that looked like you could fall into the various shades.

"Both, when you put them next to Onnyth," Teseada teased.

"Yes, well a small bronze is tiny next to her!" G'wen exclaimed. "And now that I have Neath, you're back to washing her all by yourself." He grinned at her. Washing dragons was going to be pure pleasure for a bit. Turning to S'vin, he said, "it's just occured to me that dragon washing is going to only take a few flicks of the candle...no more candlemarks and candlemarks of it for us!"

"You'll be doing that in the morning," F'neb said, "And again later.
Especially when they start saying how much they itch..."

"Yeah but at least this time it'll be my own that says it and I won't be
hearing it second-hand via their riders," G'wen said, grinning at his
friend.

"And there's threadfall," S'vin added with a proud look. All his life all he had ever wanted to do was to fly a fighting dragon.

"Don't jump so far ahead of yourselves yet. Enjoy being Weyrlings."

"I for one, am going to enjoy watching N'den with a green!" G'wen found it quite funny that his former enemy was now in the same position as him.

"Nadden got a green?" S'vin was stunned. His last few months had been
misery under that bully.

"He did," confirmed Teseada.

"Yes, and imagine if your blue one day flies his green..." G'wen grinned
and eyed F'neb, adding, "I hope, for your sake that you don't though...can you imagine him naked?" He shuddered delicately.

F'neb laughed. "I don't want to, and you shouldn't for the sake of Neath.
She might start asking questions you don't want to deal with just yet, not until she's old enough to understand."

"Really? What am I doing to do being in class all day with E'naer now?"

S'vin giggled at his friend's words, knowing the terrible crush G'wen had on the tall greenrider. "Just watch J'darin instead." That would put any boy off.

"We should go," Teseada said to F'neb. "I think these two are going to need a good night's sleep."

"Yeah, the first of many early wake up calls will happen tomorrow," F'neb
said.

Sevin waved them off. G'wen was already half asleep, curled up next to
Neath.

"Good luck," Teseada said softly as she and F'neb left.
