Description: J'klin is moping around the Dining Hall and Uetia cheers him up.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 14 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: Sabonus (not by name), Mardria
The morning after J'klin's first meeting with the Mindhealer, the
brown rider sat alone at a table in the Dining Caverns, picking idly
at some red fruit while staring into his klah as he swirled the mug.
From time to time, he sighed, mostly to himself. He was certain that
the goal of the Mindhealers was to try and make him feel better, but
discussing his problems openly for the first time had made him feel
somewhat melancholy. He wasn't certain how long he'd sat there, but it
was long enough for his klah to cool.
"Anything interesting in there?" Uetia asked. She had noticed J'klin's
absentmindedness and stopped to see how her wingmate was doing.
J'klin looked up quickly, trying but failing to force a smile to his
face. He shook his head. "No, I fear there's nothing of interest."
Remembering the Mindhealer's advice about making more friend's around
the Weyr, he decided to try and work on that. "Would you like to sit
with me?"
"Wouldn't I be disturbing your moping?" Uetia asked. She was very
straightforward person.
J'klin attempted to smile once more but the best he could accomplish
was a smirk. "Well, the mindhealers tell me I am not supposed to be
moping. So I think you disturbing my moping would be quite healthy for
me."
"Fine then," Uetia smiled and slid to the offered seat. "Some people
do get awfully touchy if you disturb their perfectly good
pouting-session."
"Well, m'dear, the simple fact of the matter is that I am not awful
good at pouting!" J'klin stated. "You'd think after getting a talking
to at the last Wing meeting I'd be a bit better at it, but alas, I
fail again." Even he himself wasn't certain if he were serious or
joking; he was getting to that point of sadness where things somehow
seemed funny again
"You're either good at it or not," Uetia was being philosophical. "Did
I heard right, that you flashed at a group of weyrlings?" Uetia asked
curiously.
J'klin's face flushed. "Oh yeah. A whole group of Weyrlings. And a few
Healers - fortunately they didn't seem to bothered by it. But when I
ran across a group of drudges changing the glows, they shrieked like I
was coming after them with a tunnel snake." He shook his head. He
couldn't remember being that embarrassed since he was a Weyrling and
he had his first encounter with a male greenrider who wanted to cuddle
after the mating flight.
"I wish I had seen it," Uetia chuckled. "I hope you didn't traumatize
the poor weyrlings too badly."
J'klin wagged a finger at Uetia. "Listen here, any rumors you've heard
about my assets - or lack there of from Weyrlings, please kindly
consider that I'd spent the previous few candlemarks abed with Mardria
of all people." He said this with a genuine chuckle, to ensure that he
didn't cause any offense to his wingmate. J'klin shook his head, "I
haven't felt that ay since I myself was a Weyrling!"
"She got you? Oh, you really have had a rough time," Uetia was very
hard trying not to laugh.
"It's not funny!" J'klin whined. "She stole my clothes! Won't even
give them back! She probably snuggles my tunic at night and thinks
about me!" J'klin shuddered in revulsion, "Seriously, have you seen
that woman's mole? It looks like it could be a second head!"
"Oh, J'klin," Uetia was laughing now. She couldn't stop it.
J'klin pouted sadly. "It's not funny!" he whined. "I bet she's been
sitting around with the other aunties and old greenriders at the Weyr
talking about how nice my butt was when I ran away from her! I will
never be taken seriously again!"
Uetia just laughed even harder. "I'm sorry," she hiccuped. "It's hilarious."
"It's hilarious when it didn't happen to you!" J'klin protested. "Come
on, you had to have had some sort of traumatic mating flight
experience! Greenriders have way less choice in the matter than we
do."
"Not me," Uetia shook her head, "but I've might have given some
bluerider a fright."
She flexes her biceps playfully and she had something to show too.
J'klin laughed now, "Well, that's good for you! So how've you been?"He
suppressed a momentary pang of guilt, since he'd been so wrapped up in
his own personal problems, he had been much less social than normal
with his wingmates.
"I've been fine," Uetia smiled happily. Sabonus was really making her glow.
"You've seemed a lot happier recently," J'klin said with a smile. He
had managed to get out of his stupor long enough to notice that. Or
perhaps it was just that when one was upset, it seemed so much more
frustrating when others were happy. "I assume a man's involved?" He'd
heard rumors to that extent, but couldn't recall what precisely was
being said.
"Oh, yes, he's a candidate," Uetia sighed.
J'klin did his best job at keeping his face neutral. "That's, ouch,
that's got to be rough. With curfews, and the knowledge that your
relationship would have to end at least for a bit if he Impresses. I
couldn't do it, I have new levels of respect for you." Realizing what
he said might have come off tactless, J'klin added, "It's good to hear
that you are happy though."
"You know, I don't waste time and energy pondering about what-ifs. I
rather live in _now_ and enjoy the moment. Perhaps you should try it,
might make you happier," Uetia said with her usual
straightforwardness.
"Yeah, I need to stop focusing on the past, that's for certain. Maybe
I can find something in my future to look forward to, shards, maybe I
could become a Wingsecond or something." J'klin pondered that over
momentarily. "Yeah... that would be a good idea. Thanks, Uetia, that's
good advice."
"You're welcome, J'klin. I'm glad to help a wingmate," Uetia replied
with a grin.
