Description: Travel arrangements for the Lord and Lady Holder to the hatching at Dolphin Cove Weyr
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 10, day 26 of Turn 5
Sawauth flew strongly alongside the bronze as they spiraled into the
gather square in front of the main hall of Emerald Falls Hold. R'mer
and Tavia were here to transport the Lord and Lady Holders a
dragonback to the Hatching at Dolphin Cove Weyr. She dismounted and
approached R'mer before mounting the steps into the hall.
This was the first time the young bronzerider had been entrusted with
such an important guest, and he was nervous to say the least. He
straightened his jacket and nodded to the greenrider approaching him.
"Do we go to him, or does he come to us, you think?"
"We go to him." she said with a smile. "You look just fine. Oh and
remember to bow and call them M'Lord and M'lady unless they give you
leave to do otherwise." She looked over to see drudges bring out
luggage. "Let's hurry, oh... and you outrank me in their eyes I'll be
right behind your right shoulder." She smiled.
He nodded, taking a deep breath. **M'lord, M'lady...** R'mer repeated
silently to himself a couple times. Faranth he hoped they couldn't see
right through the bronzerider knots to the ignorant farmer he had been.
"Should we strap on the bags first?"
"Exactly." She said nodding with approval. "We don't want to keep them
waiting at all when they're ready to go." She started grabbing bags
knowing the drudges wouldn't come farther than the door. She was a bit
surprised when one seemed a bit braver than the others and started
bringing them toward the two waiting dragons.
"Here, let me take those," he said pointing to the heavier looking bags.
She smiled and worked quickly to strap everything her green would
carry securely in place. Soon the bags were loaded and Tavia turned to
follow the young bronze rider toward the doors of the hold.
"The dragons are here," Corowal noted. "Shall we go, dearest?" He was
ready to help the coat on her.
Felyna turned toward her husband with a smile. She let him help her
into the warm flying jacket. It was large, made to go over her
Hatching finery. In Emerald Fall colors, of course. She tilted
her head to give him a kiss as he helped her, speaking as they walked
toward the courtyard, quietly, "Are you sure you want to stay
overnight?" She wouldn't need any bags unless they were going to stay
longer than the Hatching. But, if it was a late night, perhaps the
Weyr would put them up for the night. And, it would be a night away
from ...everyone.... just for the two of them. She was looking
forward to the Hatching, but also the potential of keeping her husband
to _herself_. No children, and no Fostermother.
"I like the idea a of being away from here just with you," Corowal
said. "We should take time away from our duties more often." He let
his fingers caress her hand, resting in his. He had been very
affectionate towards her the past two monts, since she came back with
the boys.
He turned his attention to the riders. The greenrider looked older and
mature, the bronzerider looked like he was fresh out of weyrlinghood.
"My duty to you, greenrider, bronzerider," he greeted both with a nod
of his head and charming smile.
Felyna was all smiles, warmed to her toes at Corowal's words. Indeed,
they did need to get away more often, just the two of them. He had
been so wonderful since she'd been home over the last couple of months
that she had done _nothing_ to disturb that, and just let things go on
as her husband willed.
She also turned to the two riders, making the same assessment as her
husband on their ages and experience. "Good day, dragonriders.
Our duty to your dragons as well." She tipped her head in greetings to
the green and the bronze, even as her own blue flit popped out of
/between/ twittering excitedly at the two of his much larger cousins.
She had never really seen herself as a dragonrider; only what she
was today - a Lady Holder. But still, she had every girl's
fascination with the Weyr and what she imagined was a life full of
adventure.
Tavia returned the acknowledgements to both the Lord and Lady with a
small bow and a simple "M'lord, M'lady." Sawauth crooned sweetly to
the Lady holder at her greeting. Tavia's smile lingered on the Lady as
she knew they would be riding together. Her bearing didn't shout fear
so at least from her greeting and manners she thought it would be an
easy trip. Standing behind and to the side of the young bronze rider,
she was going to have Sawauth bespeak Hanunth but instead as the green
crooned and drew the attention of the holders... she poked him in the
ribs.
He started slightly, but began speaking on cue. "Sir, if you are ready,
we are... ready... to take you to the Weyr." R'mer winced slightly,
knowing he probably sounded like an idiot. There had to be a much
smoother why of saying that!
"First time transporting a Lord Holder, young man?" Corowal asked from
the young bronzerider.
"Yes, sir," R'mer said, straightening his back just to hide the fact
that he really wanted to just wilt in front of the man. He was sure
Lord Corowal could smell the freshly turned soil and manure all over him
and peg him correctly as an ignorant farm boy.
"Relax, don't stand in attention. We're just humans like everyone
else," Corowal patted his shoulder. "Shall we go then? I don't want to
be late from the Hatching." He walked towards the bronze. He knew he
was expected to take it. Personally, he would rather taken the green.
It would be more pleasent to sit behind a pretty woman than a man. He
could have probably gotten away with few extra 'squeezes'.
Tavia nodded to Lady Felyna and with a smile of reassurance she
extended her hand toward the waiting green who had extended her leg to
assist in mounting. "Ma'am" she said "Have you ridden dragonback
before?"
Felyna returned the smile and stepped toward the green. "Thank you,
yes I have, greenrider. What is your name, might I ask? And your
lovely green who will carry me?" She stepped on the extended foreleg
easily, but did reach out to steady herself against the greenrider as
she mounted. She had done it before, but that didn't mean it was
precisely graceful in her Hatching clothes.
:}I like her, I will give her a very pleasant ride{; Tavia continued
to smile though maybe just a touch brighter. "I am Tavia M'lady," she
said "and this is Sawauth." She reached out to help steady the Lady
Holder as she climbed into her place.
Felyna settled finally in her place and glanced over to see how her
husband was coming along with the bronzerider. She was suddenly eager
to be off and smiled. Not only was she excited for the Hatching, but
she was
very excited for the night after, at the Weyr.
Corowal flashed her a smile from the bronze's back. He had done enough
trips on dragonback to know how to settle in comfortably on one. He
actually patted the bronze hide.
R'mer swung up gracefully on the ridge in front of the Lord Holder.
"Are you comfortable, sir?"
"Yes, I am," Corowal replied calmly, pulling on his gloves and
tucking the scarf around his neck tighter. He knew exactly how cold
the flight could be.
Tavia had climbed up and settled in front of the Lady Holder and
checked all the straps. "Are you ready M'lady?" she asked.
Felyna nodded, still smiling, and they were off.
