Zathris leaned back in his chair. His favourite chair. It was as old
as the hills and had been recovered several times, but it was his
favourite and he wasn't about to give up on it. Somehow, despite the
turns, it had remained comfortable and he could ease into it and just
feel tension melting away. It was trained to his body, the lines of
his form so most likely anyone else wouldn't be quite as comfortable,
but him? Yes, Zathris liked that chair. It was big and plush and
just right for him.
The young Lord Holder closed his eyes, heaving a sigh. So much to do.
As an assistant steward, he'd had a glimpse, but now? Oh, it was
much more difficult than it looked. But Zathris? He enjoyed it. He
enjoyed leading people, helping them, fostering relations - even when
he complained about various aspects of his position and the
responsibilities that came with it. For now, though, day was done and
he could just relax in his quarters and wait for his wife.
Knowing or rather hoping her husband would be home soon after a solid
day's work she'd gone to gather a tray for him. She liked to pick out
his favorites and had several on the tray the drudge carried following
her. Opening the door to their quarters she smiled to see him in his
favorite chair. She opened the door wide to allow the drudge through
and directed her to put it down on the small table nearby.
"Hello my dear." she said crossing to her smaller chair near him and
pouring him a cup of sweetened tea. Made with lemongrass and lavender
it was aromatic and relaxing after a days work. She'd also brought a
pair of bubbly pies fresh from the oven. "How was your day?"
"It wasn't too bad." Zathris' expression brightened when his wife
appeared and he straightened in his chair, patting his lap then took
a sip of his tea. "I'll have to take a trip in a couple of months to
visit some of the nearby holds so I'm working on setting up that.
Only one dispute had to be taken care of, some trade changes, but
other than that it was pretty quiet. And yours?"
She smiled at the proffered knee and picked up his cup after pouring.
She sat in his lap with the warm cup in her hands and smiled into the
hazel eyes. She smoothed some of his hair behind an ear. "Oh I spent
the morning on embroidery. The light in the sitting room you gave me
is so beautiful in the mornings. Then I met with Zelanka this
afternoon."
"You did, did you." With her perched on his knee, she was just a
little taller, so Zathris actually had to tilt his head back. It was
the only time he ever had to look up to her. Not that he minded. It
was definitely a good position to be in. "What did you two discuss?"
Her eyes slid away from his at the question and her color heightened.
She knew it was impossible get anything past him which was one of the
things that made him a good Lord Holder. "We... no _I_ wanted to talk
to her you see." she hesitated coloring a little more in the process.
Then she continued a bit hesitantly "I was hoping she might know some
lore or might know someone who..." she sipped the tea in her hands
"someone who might help us to get pregnant." she sighed with relief
now that it was out in the open.
Zathris frowned and let his hand that rest upon her back starting
making gentle circles. "It will happen." He states after a moment
with a small shake of his head. "I don't want you doing some silly or
crazy things. If it's bothering you enough to do that, we should have
you see a healer. Perhaps go to a Weyr that has dolphins and get you
checked out. Otherwise, it will happen. Just don't stress over it."
Benani smiled and nodded, then she put the cup down on the table next
to them and curled in his lap to lay her head against the curve of his
neck. She loved these little moments when they could just be together
without all the trappings and attendants. "Ok," she said softly
"nothing silly or crazy." She hugged him and added "I've missed you."
Zathris chuckled, accepting her embrace more than willingly. "I have
to admit, my favourite part of the day is when it's over and I get to
see you." He let his hands slide down over her leg and knee. "I
can't imagine why you would miss me."
"You know, that is a wonderful thing for a wife to hear." she said
with a smile. She was a very lucky woman and she knew that. She had
more in her life than most women could hope for. Why did she keep
sighing over babies? She leaned in for another kiss and let the hands
wander where they might with her full cooperation.
