When it came to the futures of his children, K'deren wanted to be as involved with helping them as he could. With that aim in mind, he thought to visit the newly arrived harpers and enquire what it took to formally apprentice with them.

It had to be said that the talent was in the family, two of his siblings were harpers, Meredel having risen to Senior Journeyman and Kesree a Junior Journeyman,.although she was content with that as she had her dragon to think of.

Almonteo looked up as the brownrider walked in his office. "Welcome Wingsecond! Please have a seat and tell me what I can do for you."

K'deren took the proferred seat, "Thank you sir," he said politely.
"But it may actually be my daughter that you can help."

"Oh?" The hallmaster asked curiously with a nod to continue.

"My daughter, she is approaching an age where she will want to consider a craft. I was wondering what the requirements for entry to the Harper Hall were," stated K'deren coming straight to the point. Rondera was a little unsure and he had promised to find out about all the avenues open to her.

"Well, first of all, she should have a recommendation from her current Harper teacher. Then we will test her in different areas of aptitude.
Of course she would not be required to know everything right away. It is not a knowledge test, just a test of her potential skills. The masters who conducted the tests will discuss her performance and decide from there if she would fit into the Hall."

"I see," replied K'deren. "Is it true that this kind of talent can run in families?" he asked.

The Hallmaster shrugged. "It certainly seems to, though it is not necessarily the case. But there are several well established harper families with crafters going back generations."

"I'm only asking because two of my siblings are harpers," explained K'deren. "My brother Meredel, and my sister Kesree, so there may be potential there already."

"It's certainly possible," Almonteo nodded. "And you? Are you musically inclined?"

"Alas not," replied K'deren with a shake of his head. "I took up the Smithcraft myself."

"Well, one of my son's became a Healer. Who knows where he found such patience? Certainly not from me."

"Rondera is my eldest, I just want to see her settled."

"I understand. I have an eldest daughter myself." It is a frightening thing to face - realizing that the children you have protected and sheltered all their lives are ready to slip away from your grasp and find thier destiny. "Talk to her teacher and ask for a reference. That is your first step."

"I'll do that," replied the Wingsecond. Rondera would get to choose what she did, as would the others. That much he was sure of. Almonteo smiled. "Then I hope to see and hear from you again soon."

"I'm sure you will."
