Tavia

Tavia

Ah, what a glorious day! A gloriously _hot_ day. Oh there were lots of
things that Meledei could think of doing besides wingpractise, and every
single one of them involved water. But water she lacked and water she could
not have, not until training was done. And as annoying as it was in the heat
with the sun burning overhead and the sweat trickling down her neck to try
and down over her back, she could not, and would not try to get out of them.
Meledei was, after all, a dragonrider. And not just any dragonrider, she was
a goldrider. And her and her lifemate's purpose was to fight that menace in
the sky. So while the sea glittered silver below them and her dragon
glittered gold above those left to crawl upon the earth, Meledei soared
through the sky, her dragon dipping, weaving, her arms tugging and pulling
that agenothree tank, pretending to fight an enemy that would come again all
too soon.

But when the training was done, when the end was called and the
dragonriders, weary and hot, clothes clinging to their salty-soaked bodies,
when the debriefing was done, Meledei couldn't help but heave a vast sigh of
relief, chest puffing out, then caving in at the gesture. "I think I'm going
for a swim." She announced to no one in particular.

Tavia immediately spoke up "I'm with you." Flying with the queens sometimes
made her feel small but she knew she and Sawauth were there to defend the
golds against errant strands. The were quick and agile. The younger rider
had done well in the training session and deserved her dip. Elleth was small
for a gold but still more than half again the size of Sawauth. }:But she is
not as fast or as nimble:{ Tavia just chuckled at the pride in the greens
comments. **you know that's one of the reasons we're in the wing my love.**

"The more the merrier!" Meledei chirped happily. And swimming with others
would keep her mind off of things she just didn't want to think about. The
goldrider mounted her dragon and patted her down. "Shall we get our
lifemates taken care of then meet at Serran's rock?" The rock was almost a
cliff, jutting out over the ocean water like a defiant chin. "Then take
some time to cool off and get dunked before life has to catch up to us?"

"That sounds perfect to me" said Tavia, she really could use some rest and
relaxation. She seemed to live and breathe Thread and training for Thread
lately. Her social life was in the dumps and she was beginning to pout about
that. A good swim, some wine, and a friendly brown or bronze rider would
set her to rights. They didn't tend to get possessive. "I'll meet you at
Serran's rock then?" she asked as she remounted.

"I'll meet you!" Meledei agreed as she urged her lifemate into the air. It
didn't take long to get Elleth unstrapped - she'd become an expert during
her weyrling training and time in the full wings had only improved her
speed. Within a half hour the two were coming into a landing in the shadow
of the rock and Meledei spread out a blanket she brought. There was a good
chance she wouldn't have time to use it all that much before she would have
to get back. After all, she did have other things to do...but for now, she
was going to enjoy the time she had to relax a bit. The young woman tilted
her head to the sky, keeping watch for the greenrider who had said she would
join her.

Tavia hadn't just hung out with the younger gold rider in the past so
besides the opportunity to relax and play in the water she saw this as an
opportunity to get to know Meledei. She sped to her weyr and quickly
stripped her straps giving them a thorough once over before putting them
away. She noticed a bit of wear beginning near one buckle that she'd need
to attend to soon but otherwise they were in good condition. She went to her
table to grab a piece of fruit from the bowl and smiling grabbed a second
one for the gold rider. Sailing toward the rock it wasn't hard to spot the
gold and come in for a landing nearby. As she approached she saw a blanket
and grinned. "Nice!" she said. She opened her belt pouch and pulled out a
perfect redfruit for the other woman.

"Hey, thanks!" Meledei grinned, reaching out for the proffered fruit.
"I didn't even _think_ about a snack." She motioned to the blanket,
big enough for four people, which meant more than enough room for the
two of them. "Shall we sit back and relax a bit? If we're lucky, we
might see some dolphins if we watch close enough."

Tavia crossed her ankles and dropped to the blanket, then laughed as
juice dripped down her chin from the ripe fruit. "This was a great
idea." she said and leaned back on one arm looking out at the waves as
she worked on this piece of fruit.

"Do you come to the beach a lot?" Meledei asked as she rubbed the
fruit on her tunic as if to shine it, then took a big bite. Juice
drippled gleefully over her chin, though she wiped at it with her
other hand. "Do you like to swim?"

She grinned back at the gold rider. "I love it, how about you?"

"I used to come every day." Meledei admitted with a rueful grin in
between bites of that juicy redfruit. "But then I was searched and
then impressed so...not _quite_ so often, but as often as I can!"

"It's a beautiful spot, I don't think I've ever been here before." The
waves looked inviting. "Is the water warm?"

"It will feel cold, but you'll get used to it after a while." Meledei
stated as she finished off her apple. "It feels so cold because the
air's so warm, but when it gets _really_ hot it feels so good. I've
not got the time to go for a swim though, unfortunately."

She sat there and thought about her own schedule and knew she didn't
have time either. At least not today. "Yeah," she said a bit
disappointed. "Me either. But... we'll have to come back soon, when we
_do_ have the time!" Then she grinned at the other woman.

"Maybe next rest day?" Meledei perked up at that idea. She'd invite
Cosani too, get the other greenrider to meet more people. "Come here
and bring some food. We could have a picnic!"

Tavia was glad she'd decided to come along on this little jaunt. She
liked this woman and it never hurt to have more friends. "That's a
great idea! I'm _in_!"
