Description: The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman comes calling at River Bluff.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 18 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: K'sedel, N'vanik, Traelyn

Genith bugled her greeting as she burst in from /between/ with a rush of
air around her.

**Not so loudly, lovely,** Hygalia chided gently. **This isn't our
Weyr.**

They took a much more subdued approach to landing, trying to touch down
a little further away from the Weyr entrance than usual. It was hard to
hide a gold in any Weyr, but Hygalia didn't want to make a fuss or grand
entrance. After all, she had not been invited. This was a purely
spontaneous visit. As such, after Genith joined the bronzes up on the
Heights to sun herself, and flirt a little, her lifemate quietly slipped
inside and asked directions to the Weyrwoman's office.

The watchdragon marked the arrival and Orlaith found out about it
shortly afterward. Rhosyn's curiosity was immediately piqued and she
found herself hurrying to put away some of the stuff she'd left
haphazardly around her workspace. As she was running around, a suitably
impressed candidate led the other goldrider to her office.

"Thank you," Hygalia nodded to the candidate before gently giving the
door a light tap. She was sure she had been announced, but it would not
be right just to walk into another Weyrwoman's office like she had a
right to be there. Especially since this was an unexpected and informal
visit.

Rhosyn opened the door herself, smiling and wondering what on Pern
she was here for. "Welcome to River Bluff Weyr. My duty to you and
Genith. How may I be of service?" She didn't bother with titles since
she was looking at an equal, but her expression was one of curiosity.

"And to you and Orlaith," Hygalia nodded, waiting to be invited before
walking through the door. "I hope I'm not disturbing you. I thought it
was time I paid you a visit and introduce myself, now that I'm confirmed
as Weyrwoman at Dragonsfall. Of course, if this is not a good time..."

"Oh no, you're fine. Come on in." She stepped back, opening the door
wide. She hadn't heard much about the other woman, though she had
been busy enough after hitting the ground running to bother. Dismissing
the candidate since she had already asked a drudge to bring
refreshments, Rhosyn turned and shut the door behind them. "Have a
seat."

"Thank you," the older goldrider said with a polite dip of her head
as she brushed past. Taking the offered seat she looked around the room
curiously. "Your office is already looking a bit more organized than
mine."

"On a bad day-it's nowhere near like this." Nevermind that a few moments
earlier it had looked like a tornado had been through. Rhosyn went
around the desk and plopped into her big cushioned chair. Today she was
sporting a halter and very light drawstring trousers. River Bluff had
already tanned her. "So I'm sure you didn't fly all this way just to say
hello?"

"Is that so hard to believe?" Hygalia asked, her eyebrows rising
slightly.

"Aye. 'Cause if you're anything like me, you probably have about 500
things to do in a day, give or take. So it's hard to take time away
unless you have a reason, or in my case-an excuse." Rhosyn's eyebrows
rose, wondering if anything juicy was forthcoming.

"I guess I considered meeting the other Weyrwomen as one of the 500
things I'm doing." Though Hygalia maintained her smile, she wondered if
perhaps the woman was trying to imply something. If that was the case
she would not give her the satisfaction of knowing that she had caught
on to the subtle dig. It was best not to assume, but Hygalia would
certainly file this exchange away in the back of her mind and mull it
over later. "I think that from time to time you and I will have a
reason to work together, and I have always found it is easier to work
with someone you know a little something about than one you've just
met."

"Makes sense and I'm glad you came. Visits are nice." Just then there
was a knock at the door and Rhosyn went over to see about it. "The
drudge had come with the food and refreshments and she allowed them in
to set the tray down and unload everything. When she was done, she gave
the girl a smile as she left. "Thanks, Buni." Taking her seat again, she
offered Hygalia the wineskin. "You're my first official visit you know,
none of the others have dropped in yet."

"Thank you," the goldrider smiled, looking around for a glass as she
took the offered skin. "You're my first official visit, too."

There were glasses and plates unloaded from the tray and Rhosyn began to
gather a few things to munch on. "So how are you finding things at
Dragonsfall?"

"Cold. They weren't kidding when they said the weather there was a bit
extreme. It gives me another reason to look forward to Turn's End and
better weather." Hygalia was not completely ignorant of snow, but she
had been raised at Copper Beach Hold, and as the name suggested, the
climate had leaned more towards River Bluff weather than Dragonsfall's.

"Aye well I practically burn to death here, but I'm getting used to it.
At least I can run into the water when I need to." Biting into a
biscuit, she took a few minutes before she spoke again. "Where did you
Impress again?"

"Far Island, some seventeen Turns back." It sounded so long ago. And
yet the memories of that time were still so strong. "You?"

"Vista Point, the same time actually. How many turns do you have?"
Rhosyn was becoming more interested. Perhaps they were more similar
than she thought.

That was quite the coincidence. "Thirty-three."

"Ah I'm only 31. Were you Weyrbred then?" Taking a drink, she relaxed
and began to casually take Hygalia's measure in her mind.

"No, I was found on Search specifically for the Gold Egg. A lucky
chance, I guess," she said with a humble shrug.

"I was holdbred then I was fostered at the Weyr so I guess I'm a little
of both." She offered her one of the pastries. "These are great."

"_Fostered_ to the Weyr? That's unusual," Hygalia said as she reached
for one of the treats.

"Aye that's what everyone keeps telling me. There was nowhere else for
me to go, though." She shrugged. "And then once I impressed, they were
stuck with me for better or for worse."

That was a rather interesting bit of information. Just what had she
been running from, she wondered. Perhaps she would have to ask her
harpers what they had heard of the River Bluff Weyrwoman's past. "It
seems to have been for the better."

"Well..that's up for debate too. Not to speak ill of other riders
but..my old Weyrwoman was a dragonlady in every sense of the word." She
frowned and finished off the biscuit.

Hygalia would rarely be caught speaking ill of anyone, but she certainly
did not object to hearing others do so on occasion. She would have to
find out later what Weyrwoman she might be referring to. "Perhaps some
young gold will say the same about us one day."

"I aim to prevent that from ever happening after experiencing it
firsthand. Although, to be fair, maybe it made me stronger." Rhosyn had
already been pretty feisty so she couldn't really give the woman too
much credit on that point. "So enough about me...tell me more about
you."

She waited to finish her bite of pastry and took a sip of her drink
before answering. "Not much to tell, really. As I said, I Impressed at
Far Island. I moved over to Windswept Island Weyr when it opened, and
then up to Igen to help re-open that one. Now Dragonsfall."

"You've certainly made the rounds. I've never been up north." She eyed
the other woman with interest at that. "What was it like?"

"It was different. Freer, in some ways. I mostly kept to the Weyr,
though. There was a lot to do to open the new Weyr and get it and the
people ready for Thread." She had had hardly time to catch her breath.
As a junior gold she had all the work with very few of the perks and
diplomatic responsibilities. She had learned quite a bit in that time,
though.

"Mmmm of course. So tell me about your Weyrleader. I hear he's new."
At least Rhosyn had good old K'sedel standing by in the wings if she
made a mistake. She didn't know what she'd do with a Weyrleader who
didn't have a clue. **A younger man might be nice though** A picture of
N'vanik flashed in her mind.

"He is, but he was a Wingleader before, so he has leadership experience.
He seems to be settling into the position well." Time would tell how
well they would work together, though she suspected she knew what to
expect from him well enough.

"Well that's good at least." Finishing off her glass, she moved to
refill it. "Have you met Traelyn or any of the others yet?"

"No, as I said, you're the first." Hygalia took another sip to finish
her glass as well. **This is the last one,** she decided firmly.

"Would you like to see the Weyr or...?" She didn't know much about
entertaining but supposed that was the polite thing to do.

"That would be lovely." It was her first trip to River Bluff, and she
was curious as to how it compared to other Weyrs. "If you can spare the
time, that is."

Rhosyn did a quick calculation in her head. "No problem. It's about
time I do my rounds anyway." Standing up, she adjusted her shorts
and walked to the door, ready to lead the way.
