Characters: G'wen, E'naer
Description: Galwen helps E'naer wash Eillispeth
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 25 of Turn 5

Galwen was up to his elbows in water when a weyrbrat came racing into the kitchens, shouting his name. Putting the plate he had been washing down, the boy called the messenger over to him. She blinked several times in the darkened room before spotting the slender boy and trotting over.

"E'naer...he asked me to get you to come out and wash his dragon," she said in a rush, out of breath.

Galwen gave the girl a pastry for her effort before rushing to the door of the kitchen. Someone may have shouted for him to stop--most likely his foster mother with some other monotonous task--but he kept running through the lower Caverns until the cool air hit him. He breathed in deeply, looking to the lake for the familiar green figure of Eillispeth.

There was a small green by the lake, but, no she was too small to be Eillispeth. Maybe that one by the two bronzes? The shape was familiar but her colour was almost too brillant. He blinked in the harsh light before realising it__was_her. How soon was she due to Rise?

E'naer spotted Galwen and waived at him to catch his attention.
** Be nice, ** he warned his dragon.

}: I'm always nice, :{ Eillispeth sniffed indignantly.

** Not always, when you're this close to your Rising. Then you can be very touchy,** E'naer replied.

Galwen nervously approached them. His father's weyrmate could get horribly proddy, and his otherwise gentle green quite mean around mating time. He hoped Eillispeth and E'naer were more even natured. He wracked his brain, trying to think of times when she had been due to Rise in the past, but couldn't ever remember being about when it happened. Just for luck, he crossed his fingers.

"H-hello?" he asked, his voice almost carried away in the wind.

"Hi, Galwen, are you ready to help me was this beauty?" E'naer greeted with a smile.

Galwen grinned back, pegging E'naer as a rider who didn't get proddy. The boy stripped off his tunic and reached down for a brush and some sand. So close up, Eillispeth was even more beautiful. Galwen's grin widdened, as he looked her over.

Before he could consider how silly he must sound, he said, "she's so pretty!" Shards, E'naer must think him a right wherry brain.

Eillispeth's head turned to look the boy and she sniffed him.
}: Thank you. :{

"She says thank you," E'naer interpreted. "I hope we didn't catch you of bad time. She's close to Rising and wants to be at her best, all shiny and clean."

So he had been right about that. But E'naer seemed to be in fine spirits. He smiled at the older man and held up the brush, showing his williness to do just that.

"Anytime she's ready," he said, pointing to the water with his brush.

E'naer nodded. ** Get wet, you silly,** he slapped her side affectionately. She slid gracefully to the water, her attention on the two bronzes.

"Such a flirt," E'naer rolled his eyes.

Galwen smiled, watching the greeen. She really did seem to glow from the inside out. "She_is_the most beautiful green here, isn't she?" He stole a glance at the rider.

"Of course she is," E'naer replied.

The green returned from the water and settled down to be washed.

"Let's get to work," E'naer remarked.

Galwen nodded, and circled around to her far side.

They started to wash. After a while Eillispeth turned to look Galwen. }: Harder! :{ she snapped.

"Umph, she asks you to scrub harder," E'naer mediated.

"Hey Eillispeth! I'm only a little fella, I can't scrub as hard as your rider." He smiled over to E'naer who towered over him.

After finishing his side and shyly giving the green an affectionate slap on the shoulder, he said, "sir? Could I ask you a question?"

"Sure, go ahead," E'naer replied and stopped to strech his back. She was on demanding mood today and he had ended up washing same spot twice, as her Highness wasn't satisfied with the first one...

"The Holder boys...do they ever change their attitudes?" He thought back to the insident that had occured after class yesterday when the effeminate Sevin had been laughed at by some of the lads from Holds. One of them had even given Galwen a hard jab and had laughed at him as well.

"Sure they do. Lot of holdbred attitudes shook of when the Impress," E'naer replied. "Especially if the dragon's colour comes as a surprise to them," he added with slightly wicked grin. "Lot of bulliness disappears when 'future bronzerider' walks away with a green or blue hatchling."

Galwen glanced at E'naer for reassurance. "Do their attitudes towards the girls change too?"

"Yes, for most of them," the greenrider replied. There were always few stubborn ones.

"Hmm" Galwen was not convinced. There was a vocal group of them in the dorms every night, making boasts about themselves and demeaning the girls, and some of the Weyr boys. One more reason why he found it easier to live in the lower Caverns. "You sure?"

"I said _most of them_," E'naer flashed a smile. "Some people are arses and stay arses, no matter what," he shrugged.

"And some become bronze riders," Galwen teased.

"Yeah," E'naer agreed with a laughter. He was happy to see Galwen come out of his shell.
