D'ale

D'ale

"He's looking good, D'ale," U'kaiah said with a nod of greeting as the
brown made his way into the water next to Kalamath.

D'ale smiled at his Wingleader as Torerath waded into the water near the
big bronze. "Thank you sir," he grinned. He knew that he found the
brown's deep color quite pleasing though not as elegant as a bronze like
Kalamath who fairly glowed with health.

"No candidates to help you today?" U'kaiah asked over his shoulder as he
began scrubbing the bronze neck.

He looked back at the other man, "Not this morning" he half grinned.
"Had another offer but she didn't really want to assist with Torerath."
He turned a loving eye on the brown who had submerged and was drifting
back toward the beach, eyes whirling under the water. He just shook his
head **When you decide it's time to be washed you can come out of
there.** }:It feels good:{ replied his lifemate.

"Well, you get a little worked up scrubbing down that beast, and she can
give you a good scrub, how about that?" It sounded like a good plan to
U'kaiah!

D'ale grinned and wiggled his eyebrows "That's the plan." Then his look
turned a bit more serious. "How are you doing?"

His Wingleader was glad he wasn't looking at D'ale at that moment,
though his shoulders showed his sudden tension. U'kaiah wondered what
he was referring to - the fact that he had lost the Weyrleader Flight?
Or the aftermath? "I'm doing all right. My shoulder's back to normal
and the Wing is flying well together. What more could I ask for?"

D'ale had touched a sore spot not that he'd meant to but nevertheless he
had. He'd not yet returned from River Bluff Weyr at the time of the
flight though he'd heard stories. D'ale wished he could call the words
back and rephrase them but it was too late. They'd been close once but
that was before he'd left. "Glad to hear it" was all he could think of
to say. He began to diligently wash the brown who'd finally emerged from
the deep water.

"Are you settling in all right?" U'kaiah asked, wanting to steer the
topic in a different direction.

He was relieved U'kaiah hadn't taken it the wrong way and just went
along with the change in subject. "Oh pretty well, actually. Haven't
seen Kendale yet but then the candidates are always busy right? At least
that's the way I remember it." He chuckled. "At least I got a weyr near
the kitchen."

"I saw Kendale the other day. I hardly recognized him." Kids grew so
fast sometimes.

He laughed "Yeah they do, I've heard he's as tall as me. You know what
else I heard? Looks like I'm in your wing... again." He grinned as he
ducked under Torerath's wing to scrub.

"Yeah, funny how that happened, D'ale," the bronzerider grinned over his
shoulder. "You'd think it was planned or something."

He chuckled he should have expected that. "Alright, ya got me, fair and
square." He'd been gone almost three turns and it felt like he'd never
left. He was glad U'kaiah wasn't going to hold a grudge. It appeared
he understood why D'ale had wanted to at least try with Lesora, for
the sake of their daughter.

"Glad to see you're still man enough to admit it!" U'kaiah was truly
glad the brownrider had decided to come back. He had leadership
experience, and that was an asset to any Weyr in a Pass.

"Yeah, and you're not going to let me live it down I can tell." he
chuckled. He'd tried a new thing, commitment and it hadn't worked out
so well so now here he was in more familiar territory. "How's _your_
love life going?" he asked hoping for a bit better news.

The bronzerider snorted. "Love and I are not good bed fellows. Women,
however, I rarely have a problem with."

"Yeah, what was I thinking?" he'd never had any problems finding the
right party before. He just shook his head. "I should go look up Kenza,
see how she's doing... ya know what I mean?" he asked. Renewing old
friendships wasn't a bad thing as long as he wasn't interfering with
anyone currently on her radar.

"Anything you can do to get her off my back," U'kaiah chuckled, though
he had a profound respect for the greenrider who was never afraid to
tell him like it was. "So are you back for good, then?"

He laughed. "Ya know how I got her of my back?" he asked and without
waiting for the answer he said "I put her on hers. Worked every time."
Then he looked his wingleader and friend directly in the eye. "Yes," he said and
it was a promise. "I'm back for good."
