Almonteo endured his wife's fussing over his tunic for the hundreth time that evening. She seemed to be pulling imaginary hairs and pieces of lint from his formal harper blue tunic, muttering to herself. "My love, I'm sure I couldn't have ruined my outfit between our quarters and here."

"That's what you think," Carmora replied under her breath, slapping at him lightly when he twisted around. "Stand still and let me take care of it!"

J'darin arrived with Traelyn then, and the Weyrleader smiled at the obvious fussing Carmora was giving her husband. He was glad, he thought, for a moment that he didn't have anyone fussing over him. He had turned himself out spectacularly in one of his favorite Gather outfits. The tunic was a dark tan, but the blue piping that ran throughout matched his eyes perfectly. The pride he and Hasaarth always had with their appearance was in full force tonight.

The Hallmaster sighed indulgently. "If you keep picking at it I will be lucky to have a tunic _left_ by the time this starts." Glancing over his wife's head he smiled at the approachin Weyrleaders. "Ah, J'darin, Traelyn. Come to rescue me?"

"Why? Do you need rescuing?" Traelyn asked with a grin.

"What rotten luck. You're both immaculate. That means this woman is going to keep picking at my clothing all night." He gave his wife a loving wink despite her glare.

J'darin's smile was genuine as he greeted the Hallmaster and his wife.
"I think you're immaculate too, Almonteo." He laughed, then his smile inched out and even included his Weyrwoman, sharing the moment with her.
"Its going to be a great party, and if you get some wine in you, maybe you won't notice her picking."

"I don't think you have enough wine for that, Weyrleader," the Hallmaster laughed as he took his wife's hand and gave it a loving squeeze. "Weyrwoman, you look lovely."

Trae inclined her head at the compliment. "Thank you. And you and Carmora look very fine." Despite knowing that this party would be her first public appearance since the day Nyith rose on Dolphin Cove soil, she was rather looking forward to it. The enthusiasm lighting her eyes was very apparent as she looked from the Hallmaster to his wife.

"We all look perfect," Carmora said firmly, knowing that the compliments could go on for a very long time if someone didn't put a stop to them.
She released Almonteo's hand and offered her hand to Traelyn, her smile friendly. "How are you this evening?"

"Very well, Carmora. And looking forward to the music of your Hall and the dancing!" she smiled, taking the offered hand.

"Sharding womenfolk! You two will gossip all night if we don't get started going in and welcoming people. I've a speech to make and all that rotten Weyrleader-type duty." J'darin was grinning though, to take the sting from his words. His brow furrowed briefly in Traelyn's direction. It was not surprising that they had little to say to each other, but he hoped it would be different.

"I agree. Let's get started. We have a new piece to perform by Journeyman Tarney and I can't wait for everyone to hear it." He offered his arm to his wife. "Shall we, my dear?"

Carmora raised an eyebrow as she glanced over her shoulder at the Weyrleader. "Well, we wouldn't want to keep you from your speech, would we? I'm sure Traeyln and I will have plenty of time to talk later."
Though her voice was perfectly friendly, it was clear enough to her husband that Carmora was far from pleased with her first impression of the Weyrleader.

Deciding to be a gentlemen instead of inciting yet another argument with his Weyrwoman, J'darin turned his full attention to her and offered her his own arm with another of his smiles. It even went all the way to his eyes. "If I forgot to tell you, Traelyn, you look lovely." He said softly as he reached for her the same way Almonteo was reaching for his lovely wife.

"Thank you, J'darin," she murmured, turning her head to smile at him as they began to walk. "Blue does suit you, you know."

J'darin winked at her, pleased. "I do know, and Hasaarth makes sure to tell me. Proud, the pair of us." He teased. "Thank you, Traelyn." He went on in a more serious tone, completely unaware that he'd irritated Carmora by his manner. It was normal for him, and he oftend expected people to get used to his comments. Besides, in his mind, he'd been joking with them both!

Almonteo smiled at the dragonriders and gave them a slight bow. "After you, Weyrleaders." He patted his wife's hand as she threaded her arm through his. There was no way for him to sway his wife's opinion of people one way or the other. He had learned that turns before. It was best just to let the person win them over themself. Luckily, despite her feelings, he knew Carmora would do nothing to embarrass himself or the Hall. **It's too bad. I rather like him!**
