J'nev grinned as he walked out of the Dinning Cavern. This was shaping
up to a promising night. The girl he had just met was pretty, sweet,
very naive. It was kind of refreshing after all the brazen women he had
encountered as of late. She was like a little piece of home had been
plopped in the middle of the Weyr. At Muddy River, she was the kind of
girl he would have noticed right away. As a man, he was more than happy
to teach her more about life at the Weyr. To be her 'special friend'.
He still smiled when he thought about the way she blushed when he had
brought up the subject.
But that smile was quickly replaced by a slight frown as his brow knit
together in thought. Cardella _was_ naive. Innocent. A good girl.
She was pretty special in this place where girls lost those qualities
rather quickly. It was like one of his sisters had just be brought into
the Weyr. Maybe he had been too hasty to suggest being her teacher.
There were no good girls here. Not really. Not for long. Maybe that
innocence, while appealing, should not be damaged, but rather left, like
a beautiful blossom among the weeds.
And yet, if she really were such a good girl, why did she agree to meet
him? Why did she tell him all that about never being kissed? She had
to know what she was getting into.
By the same tolken, what was a 'good girl' doing here in the first
place? Who out in the Holds _hadn't_ heard about the debauchery in the
Weyr? She had to know that the moment she agreed to come to
Dragonsfall, she was not only agreeing to leave her family behind, but
leave her morals behind as
well. Good girls didn't come to the Weyr. Good girls knew better.
Good girls turned into Aileyans.
He sneered slightly at that thought. Yes, Aileyan was probably one of
those good girls too. She still tried to play the role. And yet she
was bedding their Wingleader every chance she could get. U'kaiah
wasn't known for being a good boy. He had screwed half the goldriders
who had wandered through Dragonsfall, even his own half-sister. He had
played teacher with plenty of little Weyrling girls, J'nev knew. He had
lots of 'special friends'. That bronzerider wasn't the kind of man good
girls
gravitated towards. Aileyan's 'good girl' act was all show. She wasn't
virtuous. She was a snob. She was a hypocrite. _That_ was what
happened to good
girls at the Weyr.
And that was what would happen to Cardella eventually, too.
J'nev snorted with disgust that he had even thought that she could be
that precious, fragile flower that could brighten up the darkness of the
Weyr. What was he thinking? There was no romance, no nobility here.
Men like U'kaiah were the kind of men the Weyr rose up as role
models. Men like his father. It wouldn't take long for that blossom to
fade, to wilt, and show itself for what it was - just another weed.
Why should he let the U'kaiah's have all the fun? It was inevitable.
Sometime soon, some man was going get up those skirts. Oh yes, she'd
play naive, she'd protest, she'd blush and smile and say sweet, innocent
things. But deep down, she'd just be waiting for her chance to let it
all fall off, like the skin of a molting, poisonous jungle snake. She
was just waiting for the chance to spread her legs for a man. She was
curious. She wanted to learn. Why else would she come to this place?
Why else would she agree to let him teach her to be her 'special
friend'? It was going to happen for someone. Why shouldn't it be
_him_? He had always wallowed in some other man's left overs. Why
stand in line when you could be first?
Yes. J'nev would be her 'special friend'. He would teach her the ways
of the Weyr. He would grab those petals, lift them over her head, and
show Cardella exactly what the Weyr was all about.
After all, in the Weyr, what else were friends for?
