Description: U'das and Rhosyn meet each other.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 4 of Turn 5

She was heading through the tunnels of the Weyr, smiling at people as she
walked by. Rhosyn had yet to learn her way around, but the signs were
helpful. Today, her goal was to meet the rest of the Wingleaders and U'das
was first on the list. When she finally came to his office, she knocked on
the door once and stepped inside the doorway. As if a goldrider had to wait
to enter anything...

"Afternoon, Wingleader, have time to talk?" She looked around his chamber,
wondering at what he was about.

"Afternoon, Goldrider. I always have time for you," his smile was wide and
welcoming.

"So how are things?" She took a seat and leaned back in the comfortable
material, thanking Faranth for well-made chairs.

"Fine as usual," the bronzerider replied with a slight shrug. "There's
nothing going on besides your arrival."

"Okay so...you've been here forever right? What do you think I need to know
about River Bluff?" Rhosyn was many things, but a fool was not one of them.
It was always good to make friends with the people who had managed to stay
alive despite seeing many falls.

"Not forever, just the past five or four turns or so," U'das replied.
"Before that it was North and Far Island. As far as I see, River Bluff is a
Weyr like any other. The climate is what it is... either hot and humid or
hot and dry. We have been lucky and we have the full number of wings up in
the air. Otherwise, we have all the same problems as all the other Weyrs."

"Any particular people to pay attention to?" He might not be honest, but at
least she could ask.

"The usual: misfits, weyrlings who can't obey orders and candidates up to
mischief," U'das replied.

Rhosyn tapped her fingers on the chair. "I need to get one of these. Wonder
if there are any more in stores." She turned back to him. "Where up north?"

"The Headwoman knows. Fort Weyr," U'das replied.

"The first Weyr," Rhosyn mumbled to herself. "I bet it's just as grand as
they say. I've never been."

"It was sharding _cold_ ," U'das wasn't one to polish up truth.

"I bet." She laughed. "I bet they say we're hotter than shells, so it's
probably all the same."

"You're right," U'das chuckled.

"Any plans for retirement?" She knew he was getting up there in turns, that
was for sure. Not that he didn't look capable, it was just one of those
things.

"Not while I'm still able to lead the wing. They'll probably have to drag me
kicking and screaming to retirement. You really don't beat around the bush,
do you?"

"Why bother?" She shrugged, admitting to one of her greatest faults. Still,
in some ways it was her greatest virtue. She was always honest. "Even if
there were someone better for the job?"

"He has to prove that he's better. It's hard to beat my experience," U'das
replied, knowing that bronzeriders were rare in his generation. Oh, there
were younger ones, but most of them were still too young.

"Experience is good. In the end, it'd be the Weyrleader's decision." Seeing
as how the current Weyrleader was getting up on turns himself, Rhosyn could
see why he favored older Wingleaders in some cases.

"Yes," U'das agreed.

"I haven't really had time to explore yet, but Orlaith is happy enough. I
might see if I can borrow a candidate to give me a tour." She was very
interested in seeing the differences between River Bluff and her old Weyr.

"A weyrbrat would be a better choice. The lower cavern is a real maze, you
could easily get lost," U'das suggested and warned her.

"Mmmm I'll do that then." She could just see that happening-and forever
after be branded the goldrider who got lost during her first few sevendays.
"Orlaith likes being near the water so I think she's adjusting well. I still
need to figure some of the things out with the Wing, but we have Fall in a
few days so I'll just have to make the best of it for now."

U'das nodded. "Will you be leading the Queen Wing in the Fall?" he asked.

"I don't know yet. Lenala knows the formations here and the riders so it
would be easier for her to do it this time." Rhosyn had been thinking
heavily on that. She was pretty sure it would be safer to sit it out the
first time. That would give her a few sevendays to learn how things worked.

U'das just nodded at her reply.

Rhosyn began to think about the other things she planned to get done. "Well
I've probably taken up enough of your time. I'd better get going if I want
to get everything done." She stood up and put a hand out for U'das. "If you
need anything, though, feel free to come find me."

"Thank you and the same applies to me. It was nice to meet you," U'das
replied and got up too as a gentleman should. He liked her brusque manner.
She was like a fresh breeze. And since he tended to be rather blunt himself,
her straightforwardness didn't bother him a bit.

A rare smile made an appearance as Rhosyn left the office. "I'll remember
that," she quipped as she made her way to the next rider's office.
