Description: River Bluff's newest goldrider makes her entrance.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 3 of Turn 5
**Ready?**}:Of course:{ came the confident reply.
A few moments after that, a dragonpair came out of /between/
above River Bluff Weyr. Ordinarily, this wouldn't have been a
significant event. However, this dragonpair was arriving from Vista
Point Weyr to settle into their new home. Orlaith scanned the sky and
alerted the watchdragon. }:We are here:{
With her size, maneuvering wasn't the easiest of things, but in the end
she did land without throwing up too much of a sand cloud to mar her
freshly washed and oiled hide. When the sand had settled, her rider
unfastened her helmet and stayed perched, looking around. **This will do
fine**
After unstrapping, Rhosyn carefully dismounted and took off her riding
jacket. It was much too hot to keep it on, though she wanted to be rid
of her pants. Standing there on the sands, she scratched Orlaith, who
was carefully watching the other dragons.
"Ma'am?" a bronzerider called, hurrying up towards the pair. "Lady
Rhosyn?"
She turned and located the source of the voice. "Just Rhosyn if you
please. And you are?" She saw the knots and deduced that she'd probably
have to know who he was sooner or later.
Orlaith's eyes traveled to the approaching rider. }:You will go with him
and I will stay:{
**You can sun while I figure out where we're supposed to live** Eager to
unpack her belongings that were strapped to her dragon, Rhosyn found
herself wondering about food absentmindedly.
"Bronze Dwarkanath's rider, M'galec, ma'am. Weyrlingmaster Second and
Journeyman Healer," he said with a smart salute. "My duty to you and
your queen."
"Pleased to meet you. Before we say hello to the rest, is there any way
I can unload her?" She knew Orlaith wouldn't care, but she did.
"Ah, well, I was under instructions to conduct you to the Weyrleader's
office. I can have some of the Candidates and Weyrlings take your
things to your new weyr. Supervised, of course," he added, knowing she
might object to youngsters handing her personal things.
She turned and looked at Orlaith. **Will you let them?**
}:I will wait for you:{ came the firm answer.
Rhosyn looked again at M'galec. "Orlaith says she'll wait. I'm sure they
have lessons or something anyway."
The gold settled herself into a semi-comfortable position that resembled
something like a hen sitting on eggs, except that she had a harness full
of stuff on her underbelly.
"I don't suppose the Weyrleader has anything to eat or drink hm?" She
gestured for him to lead on.
He obediently lead the way. "We can have something sent up, ma'am.
What would you like?"
"I hate to be particular... a sandwich would be fine with some crisps."
It was already sounding way too good.
M'galec flagged down a drudge walking just a little further up the
hallway. "You there! Please ask the kitchens to prepare a sandwich and
tuber crisps for our new Weyrwoman!"
As they were making their way, Rhosyn carefully watched where they
were going.
"I cannot tell you how pleased we were that you were so willing to move
on such short notice," the bronzerider said by way of making
conversation as they walked.
"Well I had been looking for a place and then this came up." She had
been more than ready to get out of there. "Still Southern and warm
enough..." Besides that, Rhosyn had respected Tsaera and she hoped
that she would do her memory proud.
"Most definitely warm," M'galec agreed, frowning at a Candidate who
should have been in classes. He was pleased when he scurried off a
little faster. "We were sad to lose our Weyrwoman so soon, but who
could predict her lifemate's injury would flare up?"
"That was a shame really," her reply was only half-hearted since she
was glad of the chance. Still, it was awful to hear of any dragon in
pain.
"It seems the South has very little luck with Weyrwomen. I hear
Dragonsfall has recently had to replace theirs as well. Something about
being unable to adjust to the harsh climate." Though why she would have
gone to a Weyr famous for long winters when she obviously could not
handle it was beyond him. She obviously was a weak woman, in the
bronzerider's humble opinion.
"Were they bred here?" The question was simple, but it suggested
that Rhosyn had her own thoughts on the matter. She also wondered
if they would ever reach the Weyrleader.
"No, not here." At least, not that he had been told. "But the human
body can, at times, have difficulty adjusting to new environments."
The goldrider was of the mind that Southern folks were a hardier lot,
as well as Southern dragons. "Do you have a lot of afternoon showers
here during summer like other temperate areas?"
"We have a rainy season, it is not as common as in other areas." Of
course, it didn't effect them inside a stone Weyr much.
"MMMM are we getting closer?" She was becoming impatient. It didn't
help that she knew Orlaith was out there in the sun somewhere still
loaded down.
"Well, the rainy season tends to be in the summer, so we have a ways
yet," he replied, misunderstanding her question.
"No I meant..to the Weyrleader," she broke in, wanting that food.
"Ah." Well, she should have said so more clearly! "It is a little
further."
She shook her head thinking they could have taken a different entrance
probably and made better time. "How much further? Cause I can throw you
over my shoulder if we'll make better time?"
"Madam, forgive me, but I cannot make the Weyr any smaller," he replied,
finding this Weyrwoman rather disagreeable. She was acting as if it
were _his_ fault that the Weyrleader's office wasn't right next to the
main entrance!
"I realize that. I'm just hungry...." **I should have eaten before I
left.** Frowning, she did remember the waterskin on her hip. Reaching
for it, she took a few drinks in hopes that would help.
"The kitchens will need time to prepare your meal anyway, madam," he
sniffed. Perhaps in her Weyr she was accustomed to instant
gratification, but at River Bluff they had learned that good things came
to those who could wait!
And Orlaith was waiting. Regardless of anything else, that alone made
Rhosyn want to hurry. Realizing perhaps that wasn't the best thing to
do at the moment, she bit her lower lip and kept walking. "Aye sure,
but I'd also like not to keep the Weyrleader waiting." **That sounds
proper, right?** she thought to herself.
That at least made some sort of sense. "Do not worry, ma'am. The
Weyrleader has walked these halls many times. He knew how long it would
take when he sent me to escort you. He will be waiting patiently for
you to arrive."
One thing was for sure, she *had* to find a faster way once she had
time. Left to her own devices while they were walking, she found
herself watching the man. **He certainly has a stick up his arse** She
sincerely hoped all the bronzeriders wouldn't be like that.
}:Probably not.:{ came Orlaith's reassurance, causing her rider to
smile.
