Description: Sh'vair invites U'das over for a drink, much to Honalyse's discomfort
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 13 of Turn 5

"Look," Sh'vair whispered with a nudge, "there's U'das. He's sitting
all by himself. Why don't we invite him over?"

His companion flushed slightly and shook her head. "He wouldn't want to
drink with us."

"Why not? He looks... Lonely," the bluerider said with a concerned
glance in his direction.

"I doubt it," Honalyse muttered, pouring herself some more wine. He had
certainly seemed to make himself scarce in a hurry at the Hatching! Not
that she had _wanted_ all his attention that night, but he only asked
her for _one_ sharding dance! Her pride had surprisingly been a little
hurt by that. Hadn't she worn that dress he had helped picked out? And
hadn't she been a good enough dancer? Of course, she hadn't wanted to
have him hanging and drooling over her all night long, but being pursed
a _little_ couldn't have killed him! Least he could have done was try
to talk to her again. Though, who knew if she would have talked to him
if he _had_ tried. He was just so... old!

But... she had to admit to herself silently... He was a sharding amazing
dancer! She wondered what else he was good at... Shaking her head she
banished that thought from her head.

"He's too old," she said aloud, though she had not meant it for Sh'vair
to hear.

"Too old to have a drink?" he asked, eyebrows raised.

"Yes," she replied quickly to cover her lapse. "He wouldn't want to
waste time with young people he probably couldn't relate to anyway."

Sh'vair still could not stand to see someone drinking alone. He was
sure Honalyse was wrong. And to prove it, he decided to send a message
to the bronzerider through Nidogath.

}:Mine wants to know if yours would like to share a drink with him and
Tibith's rider,:{ the faithful blue transmitted to Zackariath.

U'das pondered his options for awhile when Zack mediated the message. He
had been planning a quiet evening, did he want to spend it with couple
of
kids? After checking who was Tibith's rider, a mischievous smile
appeared to
his face. Well now, he hadn't forgotten the young greenrider. ** Tell
them
I might, if the want to.**

The bronze obidiently relyed it to the blue.

Sh'vair made sure his lifemate made it clear that the Wingleader would
be more than welcome to join them. He cast a bit of a glance in
Honalyse's direction. It wasn't like she could say no _now_!

"Hello, Sh'vair, Honalyse. It was nice of you to invite me to your
company," U'das greeted when he walked over to them.

The greenrider turned accusing eyes on the bluerider. The heel of her
wheyrhide boot dug painfully into his toe as she turned her sweet smile
to the bronzerider. "Wingleader, it's nice to see you again."

Sh'vair grimaced and nodded his greeting, wishing Honalyse had said 'no'
rather than crush his toe like that! Couldn't she appreciate that it
was the neighborly thing to do?

"Thank you. You look well, did you enjoy rest of the Hatching feast?"
the bronzerider asked.

"Very much! I met a _lot_ of interesting people," she said,
straightening up though her face showed indifference.

Sh'vair's toe was beginning to regain feeling again. "I had so much fun
that night. There was so much beautiful music and dancing..."

"Oh, yes, dancing. I must have danced with twenty different people,"
U'das said. He gave Honalyse a sideways glance. Two could play this
game.

Well, her hope to recover some of her pride seemed shot to the Red Star.
Now not only was she not worth a second try, she was just one of
_many_! The only way she could respond to that was to shoot back! "So
many? No one chose you for their favorite that night?"

"I have to give everyone a chance before choosing," U'das said.

So what, he tried her out and decided she wasn't up to his standards,
she though, secretly fuming. "You say that as if it's _your_ choice."

"I don't think that's what he was saying," Sh'vair offered, but was
rewarded with another kick to the toe.

"It's mutual, and I got the feeling you weren't interested," U'das
replied to her and turned his attention to Sh'vair. "What have you been
up to
lately, outside the wing duties?"

Honalyse wanted to say something back and was annoyed that he turned his
attention elsewhere. How dare he just turn away like that! He was
so... so... MALE!

Sh'vair was relieved to finally be included in a conversation that would
not result in him getting abused by the greenrider! "I've been spending
time with my mother. She's been feeling a little down lately, and I
seem to be able to make her feel better."

"That's very kind of you, to look after your mother. You haven't found
anyone special for yourself?"

"No, he's tied to his mother's apron strings," Honalyse answered for
him. She was not done with the bronzerider just yet. "We shared one
dance and you think you can tell when I'm interested and when I'm not?"

"My little lady, when you reach my age and experience, you know," U'das
said. He also know how to create an interest.

_Little_ lady? What did he think she was, two? She had been a woman
for quite some time now, and she had half a mind to prove it! "Yes,
well, you're right. I wouldn't have much interest in a man your age.
Experience is nothing compared to mobility."

Sh'vair was a little shocked at how hostile the conversation was
turning. "No, no one special at the moment, though I'm hoping..." he
said, trying to steer the conversation back to something a bit more
civil.

"You obviously haven't tried experience," U'das replied to Honalyse and
turned his attention to the bluerider, gesturing him to continue.

**Why _try_ experience when you already _have_ it?** the greenrider
thought with a sour look. Well, she would show him! She didn't know
how yet, but she would.
