The harper came running in. Sarban had heard the drum message but he had only picked up bits and pieces. The man stopped to breathe, then got out one word. "Fire!"
The Steward got up from his seat. "Where?"
"Red Rush. Fire! People inside!" Sarban was already moving. At this time of day Corowal would be bathing after practice. "Go, alert the holders. We'll need to ride out there to help. Tell the watchdragon to get ready! And Master Miranek!"
He was running down the corridor. People rushed to move aside as the harper went to do Sarban's bidding. The Steward finally reached the bathing chamber and didn't care about knocking. "Corowal! There's a fire!"
"Where?" Corowal called, pulling himself quickly out of the tube. He took the robe next to it and pulled it on.
"Red Rush. You go. I'll stay here and mind things. The watchdragon can take you and Miranek." Sarban waited to see what Corowal wanted to do, though he knew every minute could mean something worse.
"How bad is it?" Corowal asked, quickly looking for his clothes and pushing wet strands of hair out of his eyes.
"So far only one building. More than that, I don't know. Messages are coming through the drums." Sarban threw his cousin the clothes on the hooks.
"Alert the Weyr, we might need their help," Corowal asked and turned his back to Sarban for the moment it took him to pull on clothes. He tossed the robe aside.
"I'll see to it now. Let me know if you need anything through the drums and we'll send all we can in wagons." Sarban hoped it would be a minor incident. If they got to it soon enough, things would be all right. Running over the possibilities in his head, he left Corowal to flag down one of his understewards with a firelizard. It didn't take long to pen a message to the Weyr for help.
"Great," Corowal grunted. He gestured for a drudge to bring his thick wher-hide jacket and other clothes for the dragon trip to Red Rush.

"I heard the drums," said the Master Healer as he saw the Lord Holder all bundled up for a dragon ride. "The messenger said there was a fire?"
"Yes, at the Red Rush hold. They might need a healer", Corowal replied.
"Almost certainly, I packed an emergency kit," Miranek lifted the satchel he carried. "Have we got help from the Weyr if we need to evacuate people for treatment?"
"I've sent a request for assistance," Corowal said. "I can't see why wouldn't they help", he continued. He had done his best to improve the relationship with the Weyr.
"I think they will, I know they have some considerable experience with burns victims."
"Yes. Shall we?" Corowal gestured towards the waiting dragon and dragonrider.
"Of course," Miranek nodded for the Lord holder to go first.
Corowal mounted the dragon without any help from the rider. The dragon was brown and both he and his rider looked too old to the Fighting wings. He hold out his hand to help the Healer, "Pass me your satchel," he asked.
Miranek did as he was bid, before accepting a hand from the rider to settle himself and fasten the straps for flight. "I'm ready," he said.
"All right, brace yourself," the rider warned after he had joined them on dragonback. The dragon crouched on his hind leg and launched to the air. It didn't take him long to reach the safe height over the hold and go /between/.
